WiFi not working

I just got a Tablo 2-tuner DVR and have the same problem being discussed in this thread: my Tablo doesn’t appear to be broadcasting a wifi network signal. I’ve submitted a ticket, but it’s Saturday so I don’t anticipate a quick response…and I’m impatient! Those of you that had this problem resolved, is there something I can do on my own to fix it, or do I need to wait for Tablo support? Thanks!

@JasonL Sorry for the delay, Jason!

This also happened to me, my tablo wifi SSID never showed up during initial setup and I just gave up and hard wired it.  I am now interested in getting wifi to work so I can test relocate the device with my antenna.  Any pointers without having to factory reset a device that I have setup just the way I like it, sans wifi?  Thanks,

@sduvall - Check out this ‘how to’. There’s a section that talks about how to switch from Ethernet to WiFi http://support.tablotv.com/hc/en-us/articles/201766933-Chapter-4-First-Time-Setup

I am having the same issue as everyone else. I can’t get my Tablo to connect over WiFi. Nothing I do can get it to work. I tried the quick reset…the factory reset…everything. It never comes up as a WiFi option on my phone, iPad, or computer. What do I do?!? Did I get a bad box?

If you factory reset the Tablo (aka hold the blue button down for at least 30 seconds), you should be able to connect to the Tablo’s WiFi AP to add it to your router’s WiFi. Of course you should not have the Ethernet plugged in when you do this.

You would need to use a laptop with WiFi connectivity or a tablet to do this. After factory resetting connect the device to the wireless network named “Tablo_XXXX”.

@bruin18 - Give us a ring or place a ticket. We’ll be happy to walk you through it.

I see all of this discussion but nobody has posted any actual way to address this.

The links and videos do not address this scenario:

  • Connecting your Tablo to run by WiFi instead of Ethernet

It does not broadcast the SSID, so it is not configurable. I keep seeing to contact support, which makes me think this is a bug in their hardware or something because why else would it just not be posted how to do this?

I’ve had my Tablo 4 tuner since it came out (pre-ordered it even), and it NEVER worked. From day one, I was never able to see an SSID to connect it.

I see people saying once it’s connected via Ethernet, unplug, reboot, and then you don’t need to use the Tablo WiFi, which is nonsense, because you cannot connect to Tablo after that because it was never configured with the SSID and credentials.

There is no place to configured SSID and credentials when it is on Ethernet.

So you HAVE to connect directly to the Tablo SSID, but it isn’t visible.

I have wasted a lot of time trying to get such a freaking basic thing to work.

Anyone? Opened a ticket but they’re off for the weekend.

@django363 the link above tells EXACTLY how to connect the Tablo by WiFi. Do you not have the Tablo App installed on your device or ???

@philsoft - yes I’ve seen this, and in theory it is very simple and basic. The problem is, which is what most of the people on this forum are complaining about, it DOES NOT broadcast the WiFi SSID from Tablo, so you are dead in the water.

Everyone that has had this issues seems to have needed to put it in heartbeat mode and have Tablo Support do something to fix that.

My Tablo broadcasts a WiFi network when I factory reset it and there is no Etherent cable plugged in to it. Hold down the blue button for 30 seconds to factory reset.

I have switched my Tablo from Ethernet to WiFi.

@theuser86 - yep that’s what it is supposed to do, but not mine. Nothing. Just tried it again. No tablo SSID.

Like i was saying to @philsoft - in theory it’s simple, but it just doesn’t work. I pre-ordered my Tablo 4 tuner, so not sure if there was on issue on the very first production or what but it doesn’t work.

I’ve seen the same thing reported by others in the forum and it wasn’t “look here to fix” it was “contact us” and they fixed.

Pisses me off too because they have crap support hours, eastern time and M-F. I work guys, I’m not around during those hours.

You actually factory resetted your Tablo? You lose all your recordings when you do that.

Yep, I don’t record anything. I find myself watching news mostly and Hogan’s heroes

Tried it again. Losing faith. Pushed the blue button for 30 seconds & released. No TABLO wifi SSID. Just mine, and a few of my wonderful neighbors.

Am I doing something wrong or is this fubar? Anyone have a thought?

Is there a way to configure the WiFi for a tablo connected to ethernet? The directions pretty much suck.

I would think you could configure that some how.

Moved it back to ethernet, with the damn wire going across the room.

As far as I can see, this device, at least the one I have, does NOT support WiFi.

It should support WiFi. When I changed disk today, I did NOT see Tablo SSID, so I tried using the Tablo App on my Android phone (connected to WiFi). It detected a new drive and said it needed formatting. I formatted, then disconnected to copy everything recorded on the 1 TB drive to the 5 TB drive (still going on).

It should because it is supposed to but mine doesn’t and never has. I think there is something up with this though. I have seen a lot of posts with people chiming in saying “me too” and then they are escorted off to support and never to be heard from again.

I’m pretty convinced there is a hardware defect because it would have otherwise be addressed by telling people what to do or fixing it in a firmware update.

Keep it secret if there is an unfixable defect. Guessing they address it by some hack.

This wasn’t cheap so I’m irritated it doesn’t work. I’m more irritated that their support is pretty much banker hours if you are a banker on the east coast.

Appreciate the input @beastman though!

Wait until tomorrow and give them a call. They’ve hired more people! I forget her name, but they have a lady that answers the phone sometimes. My problem ended up being not giving the guide enough time to download after rescan.
