Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.0.0 & 1.0.1)

@KGBnut - do you have the latest Roku 14.5 update? I do not yet have it.

Does “on replay” work? I tried it and see nothing on my Roku Ultra.

Also, what’s the value if it did?

I think I am on 14.5, but I am not sure. I will check when I get home.

As far as ‘CC on Replay’ goes, it turns on the captions briefly when you click back ten seconds or rewind. I am getting older and my hearing is not what it used to be. I don’t like captions on all the time, but every once in a while I will miss a line. I just click ‘left’ once or twice to jump back a little bit and I can read the line. After a short while the captions will fade away.

Thanks for the extra info. I have my Roku ultra configure with “on replay” but I am not seeing that happen on the Tablo app. I will recheck my settings, maybe I missed something.

Thanks, but this isn’t a app crash issue, the new Tablo update adds a tab to start CC and its implementation is very intermittent. Just another Tablo - Roku interface issue, pressing * on the Roku remote allows CC to be correctly enabled without having to exit the Tablo App.
I don’t have issues except when using my Roku boxes ! That’s an acceptable work-around
Thanks everyone
Hank

Since the update, several recorded shows just buffer endlessly. But what is even more annoying is when I fast forward or rewind a show I’m watching, the actual screen for the show I’m watching is minuscule while unrelated suggestions and images take up 95% of the screen.

Sounds like the marketing dept. is in charge of development.

Moving this to our Roku 1.0.0 thread.

I don’t think this is a Roku issue because it doesn’t happen on any other streaming app. Only using the Tablo app do I have the buffering issue and the minuscule image on fast forward or rewind. Not on any of other dozen or so apps on Roku. And it only started with the Tablo update. Seems to me that makes it a Tablo issue not a Roku issue. But I could be wrong! Absolutely. I’m not a techie.

That’s what you said 4 days ago. Please define “soon”

This has gone back and forth for a while now. The issue with having a list of “recordings only” to pick from is there is no way to see and/or edit the entire “library” of scheduled recordings. Even if there is no recording coming in the next 2 weeks, it is still necessary to see that a particular series is scheduled to record if/when it eventually comes up in the 2 week guide window.

I think the real solution would be for Tablo to provide 2 different views for recordings. One would be a “short list” of all current recordings so the user can simply “find something to watch”. The second would be “all things scheduled to record”. I have referred to this second “view” as the “scheduling manager” where the user can manage the entire recordings schedule, regardless of whether there happens to be a “current recording” or an “upcoming recording”. Alternatively, it could be one area that has a simple drop done list to “filter” what the user sees. Something like “All”, “Upcoming”, and “Current”.

Why not do something really novel and make it work like legacy.

The old system (I want to say this past September/October) had a separate “Scheduled” section. In that section you could see all your show/movies regardless of whether or not you had recordings ready to watch.

The “All” and “TV Shows” sections only showed programs with current recordings.

I much preferred this arrangement. I’m not as young as I used to be and my eyes aren’t great any more. I just browse the tiles and see “Oh, I have a new Matlock that I can watch.” Not any more. Now I have to get out of my chair and walk half-way to the TV to see the tiny letters to tell me if I have new recordings. Annoying…

I do like to have access to both. For a while we could not access programs that had no recordings saved or coming soon. That was annoying, too, because I couldn’t make changes to those shows, or even remind myself which programs I had set to record.

Please, go back to having a separate “Scheduled” section. Alternatively, you could have everything appear under “All” and have “TV Shows,” “Movies,” “Sports,” etc. only display those with current recordings.

I’s be happy if they hadn’t broken the roku guide so it is just as bad as fire tv stick app.

For featured sports Golf only ever has PGA in it not the masters,LIV, or any womens golf. And all sports only has the 3rd round game and not the final round of the masters. NHL has both NHL games while all sports only has one NHL game. But at least I know it’s just as screwed up as the fire tv stick app - same programmer?

I got CC “On Replay” working (Roku was indicating it was enabled, but only worked after I reset the setting). I disabled CC “On Replay” after testing, as I expect CC to be off after the replay was over and I went back to live, but CC stayed on. I guess I will stick with just the On/Off setting as needed.

'Bought a Tablo and Roku to use together to no joy. If an update causes a client with 40+% market share to crash, the OOB shouldn’t install it in the first place.

How many days should I give it before returning both to the store?

Hello @dlpoole and welcome to the community. I’m sorry you’re experiencing issues right out of the gate. What’s been happening with these occasional updates is we get new features, new features that don’t work the way one would expect, or new bugs/issues. This update is particularly noticeable because of the high-profile changes that, to me, didn’t equate to “better”.

I’m sure there were other fixes we don’t see that work flawlessly.

Things will settle down once Tablo pushes out an update, hopefully without breaking anything else. The product really is very good and useful - they’re just having a tough time with this update.

I agree with others. The changes to the thumbnail previews when fast forwarding create a real problem. Only showing one small thumbnail makes it impossible to stop at the right point point to continue viewing. PLEASE give me multiple, decent size thumbnails and center them on the screen!

Tablo firmware 2.2.54-2433716 Roku Software version 14.1 Tablo TV app version 1.0 build 0 will not connect. Rebooted everything. Power cycled everything. Uninstalled reinstalled app–very frustrating. Any insight/help appreciated.
