Same thing just happen to me. I noticed the side menu (new update ) and then told me not connected to tablo and press reset button on unit. I did that and app won’t load on Roku. Rebooted everything and still won’t load. Works fine on my android!!
Brad, I have a trouble ticket with Tablo tech support. They asked me via email to put the unit in “remote access mode”. Now it’s been in “ram” for 9 hours. I called them 4.5 hours ago to get status. Tech said she would have to escalate the ticket to next level tech. She said for me to leave the unit in ram. I hope it’s working tomorrow because Judge Judy waits for no man.
I have a Gen4 4-tuner. My TCL Roku TV has always had the problem that it won’t play/resume from certain tiles, when skipping ahead or back. No rhyme or reason, just 10-20% of tiles won’t resume. I’ve gotten used to it, but have submitted a support ticket and gotten assurance that T is aware and working on it. I was expecting the next app release to fix it, but if anything it’s now much worse. I think with v1.0 it’s now fully 50% of tiles refuse to resume, or maybe higher. Even worse, every attempt to resume causes 1-2 sec of spinning “wait” symbol, so working back/forward to find a working resume tile takes agonizingly long.
I also agree with everyone else here that the single tile preview makes FF/RW much harder to use. And why did they disable the repeating behavior when holding down L/R? Hold-for-repeat still works in some places in the UI, but not in this most critical use case.
I really want the previous version back, bugs and all. At least they were just annoying, not app-breaking. Does anyone know how to roll back a Roku app to a previous version? Google says it might have been possible in the past… but I can’t find any way currently.
I also now have a trouble ticket in for this issue but they haven’t asked me to put it in that mode yet. Hopefully enough people complain to get them fix this right away.
Thanks for the latest update! I like the new interface and the performance so far seems snappier. Keep up the good work!
How does this work? > * Adds updated player controls including ‘last channel’ and ‘go to live’
Deleting the fast forward/rewind series (film strip) is the worst part of this upgrade (assuming they fix all the bugs). Clearly, Tablo developers and management are out of touch with their customers. Did they even beta test this release with actual Tablo customers and get feedback? Like the overwhelming majority of Tablo customers, I specifically bought their product to record OTA broadcasts AND watch those recordings while fast forwarding thru commercials. Eliminating the key feature that makes this very easy in the previous verision is not good. Please go back to the “film strip”
I really think that the lack of the ‘film strip’ is an oversight, since it appears on my ONN device which has been using the new layout for several months.
This update has been available for months. I saw this update on my Amazon Fire TV. I do like this design better. Tablo has finally caught up to the other apps. I do feel that Tablo has been big disappointment in general, a waste of money. I always have to update channels; no matter where I place the antenna, I get poor reception on 2nd TV that the antenna is not on, and the TV I is on will also cut off from time to time and then not record my shows. I rely on HULU to catch up. The cheap antenna I got at Walmart is more reliable.
It may have been available for months for Android TV/Fire TV, but this is a post about Roku devices.
The latest update (around April 7) it is now much more difficult to skip commercials. Removing the ‘film strip’ and replacing it with a single video pane makes it nearly impossible to stop at the appropriate point in the video. I would suggest modifying this to at least a 3 image display while fast forwarding.
Overall (so far), the latest upgrades appear to be very good.
I’ve noticed after rescanning channels and updating the guide, the guide fails to update
So far, I like the new version and haven’t experienced any “connection lost” issues (which I DID have sometimes prior to this update. I also don’t have big problems with the new FF/RW, based on the way I use it, and the fact the snapshot tiles are “immediate” (i.e. Right-click, click, click, click, left-click, play). The only step it adds for me is one additional left click. That said - I’d be perfectly happy to have the “filmstrip” view back.
Thanks for the update. Some things seem to function a little quicker. However, please accept another data point for the old way of FF/RW. If it’s a space issue, I certainly don’t need to see any other options on the FF/RW screen. It would be nice if these major UI changes came with a user select-able preference option.
This is what I’ve noticed as well on my recent recordings. I pick a tile, press the Roku button, and it goes to a black screen. Then I try explicitly pressing Play/Pause, then picking the Play menu icon, and it still doesn’t work. Sometimes it will play the audio only with a frozen image on the screen.
It’s definitely gotten worse since the update. The only workaround is to keep trying other tiles (usually going back further into the commercial break) and trying again.
No issues on any of my 5 Rokus. Overall really like the updates. Just takes a little bit to get used to, but worth the effort to explore and learn.
The new fast forward/rewind interface is impossible to use effectively. The old one was one of the best out there. What were they thinking. Tablo - please fix this!
Maybe I missing something regarding skipping through the commercials on the new UI. The way I’ve done this before was to use the blue right arrow on the Roku remote and click through until I see a thumbnail where it looks best to stop and resume the recording. I get that the thumbnails are smaller on the new UI but I don’t have any problem seeing them to knowing which one to stop at. So it seems to work just fine for me.
One thing I especially like is the clock in the upper right corner of the Live Grid! When I had the old cable TV DVR box it had a clock on it. But I turned it back into the cable company long ago. It’s really easy to check the time now by pressing the Blue up arrow on the Roku remote. Thank you Tablo!
If there was a way to downgrade back to three days ago… I’d do it in a heartbeat.
I would as well!
