Thank you Tablo team…for me, this is a 5+ star update. LOVE that you can now scroll channels horizontally at the bottom of the screen. That’s a game changer. Lots of other improvements too that make the navigation experience fun and fast. Really like the clock at the upper right. Is that new with this update? I think so – just noticed it. Overall, even before these enhancements, my Tablo experience has been excellent, with minor and infrequent glitches that are always easily fixed with a quick push-button reset. The new v1.0.0 update is pretty epic – so thank you again. Looking forward to whatever comes next, but right now it’s working great for me.
I agree the old way was better. allowed you to home in on the exact tile to resume on. Now you have to search around a bit.
Tablo would help itself out more if it published a one page change sheet other than technical release notes. Explain the significant was/is changes so people aren’t figuring out by guessing.
Thank You for the new update. I have a Roku Ultra 4850X (14.1) and received the update 4.7.25 And I like the new format !!
I think I have found a bug though… While watching LIVE TV on the Roku… and If I also start watching Live on my iPhone 14 (OS: 18.3.2) If I change the channel on the iPhone, my Roku will Crash and go back to the “live tv guide”. I have a 2 tuner Tablo… HOWEVER It does not do it if I watch one of the streaming channels (like: the Space Science channel) on the Roku, and change the change the “live” channel on the iPhone.
Gee, I really do wish I could be excited and get on board and cheer with “GREAT UPDATE!!!”.
Sadly, I can’t. For me and the way it works, it’s yet ANOTHER step backward foisted upon us.
First, an earlier update removed the ability (on Roku) to just select an item and press the Play/Pause button on the remote to begin playing. Grrrrr NOW I’m forced to interact with an intermediate menu to play a recording. I hate that!
This update introduces an annoying smaller thumbnail that makes it more difficult to locate the spots in the recording I’m interested in when fast forwarding. Grrrrr
While I don’t mind the new sidebar (totally threw me this morning, but whatever) I find the new playback layout VERY annoying. Why were things moved around to show large thumbnails across the bottom of the screen when fast forwarding? I’m focused on a recording. I don’t care to see big honkin thumbnails of other crap across the bottom!
I’m certain I’m not alone here, but my reason for buying Tablo was to serve ME. Make MY TV consumption better by allowing me to fast forward through commercials. I’m finding myself consistently missing points where I want to resume and now having to press the backward scan button. I VERY SELDOM had to do that before this update. In effect, Tablo is now forcing me to watch the last part of commercials!
When using Roku, I often like to use the Roku app on my phone. This allows me to connect to my Bluetooth earbuds. That way I can watch my TV without audio disturbing my sleeping wife as it’s routed to headphones. But that has NEVER worked with the Tablo app. I really wish there would be some effort put into making these standard things work.
Another suggestion here. Since you seem to have taken up lots of space on the bottom of the screen when pausing or fast forwarding, why not add a delete button in this area? Once I’m finished watching a recording, I’m forced to return to the menu and choose the delete option. Sure would be nice to just see a button in this new huge area to just delete from there!
Why does the Library All tab contain items items that are scheduled to record. I could have 30 items scheduled to record. I need just the items that actually have recordings.
Seems I’m having similar problems to @Jaxon82. I have a Roku streaming stick + 3810x running 14.1.4 build 7709 as well as a TCL Roku TV running the same software version. When opening the app for the 4th gen 2 tuner on either device since updating to app version 1.0, will display “connecting to your Tablo” and the blue bar scrolls across endlessly.
Also have Tablo app on my fire stick and android device with no problems.
I’ve been a Tablo user since 2019 with Roku. The new UI push (Roku app 1.0.0-734366) threw me for a loop last night. Like any change some good, some bad and I guess I’m going to have to get used to the changes…and like any UI it works for some people and not for others.
New UI seems to enter the Tablo app faster without waiting for the “loading great content for you” message.
I use my Tablo to really only record and view OTA programming and occasionally live TV. With the streaming services I have I never look at any of the other content. I just don’t need one more place to look for content.
That said, the new menu bar on the left is good, but upon entering the Tablo app it takes me to this home screen that shows all kinds of other programming that I don’t care about. So the first thing I have to do is navigate back to the menu bar, select library and then get on with it. I would be nice if in settings you could select which menu item you want to be your “home” screen whenever you start the Tablo app.
In show navigation is my biggest beef. Left and right arrows skip fwd/back 10 seconds. In the past you could always hold the left/right arrow down and it would auto-repeat 10 second skips until you let up on the button. The auto-repeat feature is now missing. It takes many individual button presses. Using the fwd/rew buttons are good for fast x1-x4 movement through a program, but are not good for precise positioning. The x1-x4 movement keeps going until you press another button, much slower than lifting your finger off of the arrow key. This causes me to blow past my intended stopping point. So for me, skipping commercials or skipping to a known spot has gotten much harder and less precise without auto-repeat.
The overlay screen displayed when navigating forwards or backwards through a recording is now more cluttered. The timeline is in the middle of the screen instead of at the bottom. There are more options displayed, other programs and channels.
My suggestion would be to put INFO and UP NEXT on the same line as PLAY and CAPTIONS OFF. I’d get rid of CHANNELS and RECORDINGS which have nothing to do with the show you are currently watching. Left/right/fwd/rew keys would bring up only the timeline for fwd/rew navigation and then if you press the down arrow it brings up menu line with PLAY, CAPTIONS OFF, INFO and UP NEXT.
And finally I have some recorded shows that do not show thumbnails when navigating through a show. I haven’t been able to find a pattern for which recordings exhibit this behavior. I don’t know if this has anything to do with the new UI roll out.
Although this might be a useful option at times, I agree you should be able to filter to see a library of only recorded shows, which should be the default.
Wasn’t this menu recordings only before the current app release.
It’s almost as brilliant as adding a News category where the evening news ribbon contains no 6PM or 7PM news programs but does contain Jimmy fallon, jimmy kimmel, and stephen colbert as evening news programs.
The FF/RW is a serious downgrade. I joined this forum just to make this point. I’m glad to see DavidE post about this as well.
The old way was MUCH better. When fast forwarding the old way, it was easy to watch the row of thumbnails and see the one coming that you wanted resume from. Now, I overshoot the position I wanted almost every single time.
This is very frustrating. Especially when overshooting creates an unintended “spoiler” situation.
Please fix FF/RW back to how it was. The old way was my #1 like about watching recorded shows on the Tablo… now, that pleasure has been turned into frustration.
That has helped me in the past as well but not this time.
I agree. Please bring back the snapshots.
Ditto
I just want the Tablo to sync up, record and be able to play back the recording LOL. Oh and have a live guide that is accurate.
I figure the time it is all sorted out ATSC 3.0 WILL BE FORCED UPON US!
Now don’t get me wrong I love the Tablo unit but I do believe it wasn’t left in the oven long enough before releasing to the public.
It was left in the oven plenty long enough. They had the wrong bakers. And I would love to know who the head chef was.
Having problem with Tablo kicking back to Roku menu when a TV channel is selected. Can’t seem to get it to work. Did the update with no success. Whats up?
Mark
Yep, absolutely HATE the FF/REW! I’ll be blocking this update on my other Roku devices for as long as possible.
Tablo product devs obviously don’t use their own product. Yes, don’t like the new FF/Rew.
Roku crash, crash, crash, message stating we can’t use CC (which we don’t use), crash, turn off CC on replay, stop watching TV and play cards.
What the heck did they determine in beta testing with the beta team? That needs to be included in the release notes. Something like, “you will need to reboot your X and Y and clear cache here once you upgrade”.
Ok. I have tested on my
9101X (Soundbar) - Connected
4850X (New Ultra) -Connected
4660X (Old Ultra) - Doesn’t connect
3810X Streaming Stick+ - Doesn’t connect
On the soundbar I changed the name of the Tablo in settings. Now, nothing connects except the soundbar.
I’m going to submit a ticket but wondered if anyone else was experiencing this. I’ve of course reset the Tablo, reset the Rokus, and even factory reset the old ultra with no change. Going to reset the eeros next.
I wonder how many models Tablo tested this update on….
My 4660 connects correctly using WiFi. But I don’t use a mesh router like eeros.
