Tried watching a recording today. It also backed out to the Roku main screen. This is pretty unbelievable at this point. Ultra 4660x
Is it fixed? Mine got fixed with the last update
I didn’t have this issue on my Roku Ultra until the update on 1/2. That update caused the bouncing back to home for me. Hope they fix it soon.
We never watch live TV through Tablo only watch recordings. Through all these issues over the last months we have never had a recording stop and exit. Not sure why. And we watch several recordings almost every day.
I too only use the Tablo to schedule & watch recordings. I trialed the Gen 4 back in early September, but had many issues with scheduling & viewing recordings on my Roku Ultra. I returned the device after only a few weeks, have those issues been fixed?
Hi folks -
We’re still investigating why some Roku models are experiencing these random shut downs.
One of the paths we’re investigating is whether a particular Roku setting may be affecting playback in some way.
If you’re able to, try disabling the ‘auto-adjust display refresh rate’ setting on your Roku.
You can access this from your main Roku home screen by going to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS > ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTINGS > AUTO-ADJUST DISPLAY REFRESH RATE and set it to OFF if it was ON.
Do older models even have this setting? And for newer models isn’t the default setting Off.
Mine was already set to off by default
Testing on the 3941RW, video has played on a 1080 station without interruption for an hour whether this setting is on or off.
Does not help. Crash and return to Roku from Tablo continues.
As previously reported I’m one of the folks seeing the Tablo app abruptly exit to Roku Home Screen while watching live tv.
Tablo Firmware 2.2.48 & Roku Ultra 4802X OS 12.5.0 build 4178-C2
Advance display settings —> Auto-adjust display refresh rate: Is and was set to Off.
Let me give my unscientific and unproven theory for the Roku exit not the green screen.
I have another product that also distributes MPEG2 to various apps on various STB’s. But I primarily use Roku and their Roku app. While my signals are always strong with good S/N there have been times the quality becomes low or fluctuates.
This occurs when the station engineers start mucking around for some reason. The station I normally watch the news live on is going to be making changes and moving. So I suspect the engineers during the morning are playing around . But not such that it affects the signal strength.
With most ATSC 1.0 tuners once the tuner locks on the channels it will continue to relay what to it appears to be a good signal data. That just gets sent as is to the Roku app. And it can blow the app/video player up.
So what I’ve been getting from this channel during a 2 hour window for the last 4 days is what the video player quickly reports as malformed data. Sometimes the screen will go black and you have to use the home button and sometimes it will exit the app.
I will just add my voice to the chorus here. Roku 4800X, Tablo is now absolutely useless. Either
a) Quits back to home screen every 5 to 15 minutes or so
b) Freezes the entire Roku and crashes it
Happens while watching live TV as others have mentioned. This is a critical defect and needs fixing ASAP please, thank you.
I’m having the same issues where OTA/FAST channels randomly crash the Roku app. I’m watching on a TCL Roku TV, most recent Roku OS and Tablo App. I’m curious though are you all using the provided Tablo antenna for OTA? I am not stopped using it after the first channel scan. I have comfortably watched the end of Steelers game right into the 2nd quarter of the Colts Texans game without a crash. I have done several factory resets. Things have been better since the latest Roku App update, my big issue is with the FAST channels crashing, my Internet is 600x600 fiber everything plugged into a 1Gbps router. Annoying. I wanted this product more for recording FAST, which Plex can’t do currently that I know of.
I have been watching football all night with no issues on my Roku.
Me too, I’ve gone from Half time of the Steelers game and now watching halftime of the Colts game. For OTA I think it is all about reception causing the crashes. I did have the same issues with hdhomerun on Plex.
Just for giggles though I just checked and my ABC channel is still 720P according to the tablo app. That could have something to do with my uninterrupted streaming.
I watched a few hours of FAST channels this morning with no issues. Turned on an OTA channel tonight and I have been kicked out to the Roku homescreen three times already. This never happened until this latest Roku Tablo app update on 1/2. I have a 4802 Roku Ultra and a 4 tuner Tablo. Luckily I have a 4k Firestick hooked up to the the same TV so I can use that if I need to until they get this fixed on the Roku. Rather annoying.
Just a stab in the dark… is anybody here that is having problems hooking their electronics up on a hidden network? I had my roku ultra and tablo 4th gen running on a hidden network and had most of the same problems everyone here was having. Went into router settings last night and checked box to broadcast ssid, and now that network is unhidden, tablo and roku play nicely together!
That’s some good thinking, and it might be causing some issues for users. I believe that the Tablo instructions do say to not use a hidden network, and it would make sense since the network would need to be pinged more than usual if not broacast.
I have hidden and non hidden SSIDs broadcasting in my home and I will try testing this out a little later today. (I know they say that hidden SSIDs are less secure, but with AES 128 encryption, I think they’ve got to be thinking more to the fact that most people hide their SSID and don’t put a strong password (or name) on it.)
Thanks for sharing your input and what has worked for you! I don’t think the Ultra had very many issues with the latest app update, but I’m sure willing to bang my head against the wall trying to deal with an Express+ and 4k Express+ later today! (Believe it or not, I had LESS streaming problems when my Tablo was on the hidden network, but then again, so were my Tablo apps!)
Again, good thinking, and it might be worth looking into. I hope your Tablo continues to work well after your latest change!
