Tablo Apple TV App (4th Gen) Early Access Program

Long term Tablo user here… just got the 4th gen Tablo with 4 tuners and requested access to the AppleTV beta. Very excited to get to try the Apple TV app. Please let me know if anything else is needed. Many thanks.

Just got the 4tuner model — we’re an AppleTV house and would like to be part of beta. I completed form — please include us when possible.

I bought this months ago, haven’t been able to use it as of yet. We cut the cord, live between Milwaukee and Green Bay, so we pick up both cities… we have three tv’s, all using Apple TV. I bought it for cutting the cord, the salesman at Best Buy assured me it would work… then I found out there was no app yet for Apple, ugh! I read all the information, it seemed like the app would be coming very soon, so I kept the Tablo unit… even though it didn’t come very soon at all, I would be happy to finally get to use it! Not to sound to old and nerdy, there is stuff on PBS I really hate to miss and without cable you can’t even use the local PBS app because they require you to login with your tv provider! I don’t understand why any OTA tv provider needs you to login with a cable company login!!!

If you sign up for beta testing, you can use Tablo 4 on your AppleTVs.

As for PBS, the station I receive over air, does not require a provider subscription to view with Tablo. I’m pretty sure the PBS App does not require a cable TV provider to watch some of the programs. I’ve certainly been able to do that. However, a donation to support PBS gives me full access. That donation can be very reasonable, compared to the cost of a cable subscription and helps ensure the good programming, without commercials, continues.

I’m in. I’d love to be considered for the Beta test.

Just signed up to Beta Test. Pulled the trigger on the Gen 4 when the LG app came out but I run all my other apps through my AppleTV which is set up for dynamic backlighting which I cant use on the LG tablo app so I would love to test and give feedback.

Ditto, I have 1 LG but 4 Apple TV’s, 3 are on TV’s that don’t have a native app.

Just set up my new Tablo 4th Gen – having good luck so far – looking forward to joining the beta if there’s still room! Thanks!

So are we still in limbo on this or what? I just bought the Tablo and was disappointed that to use it I need yet another device to see its content on my TV. Why isn’t there just and HDMI port on the device?

A post was merged into an existing topic: NEW - 4th Gen Tablo Apple TV App Beta (v. 1.4.1 + 1.4.3)

It has been in beta for almost 6 months. I have no desire to join the beta team since I am only interested in a finished product. Every now and then some beta tester accidentally posts in this forum and describes a problem. I have had my Tablo for close to a year and never dreamed it would take this long for the Apple TV app to be released. Even when they do release it, after all this time, if it is like all the previous releases it will be buggy. Tablo support does not even have the courtesy to at least keep their customer base up to date with progress. I just hope Tablo no what they are doing.

Submitted the application. Looks like they haven’t done an update for new testers in a while. Hopefully I get it soon, if not I’ll have to return the Tablo as I can’t risk being stuck with a device I’ll never be able to use.

Why did you buy the device if the website said “coming soon” for Apply TV?

FYI - We add new testers several times a week.

If you fill out the form correctly, you’ll likely get in within 2-3 days.

I am not sure why you are even asking that question since at the time there were several apps “Not Available” at that time. Apple seems to be the last one left now. I bought a firestick as an interim never having purchased something that unknowingly was a year+ away. Not to mention Tablo was saying coming soon and the general thoughts on this forum were that at worst it would be by the end of 2023 at worst.

This BTW is at the top of this thread when announced by Tablo in Feb:

“We’re getting close to the official production release of the Apple TV app for 4th generation Tablo devices. Woo hoo!”

Six months later the only thing happening are more people signing up for Beta testing. So even if I bought it in Feb with that announcement I would never had expected as we enter August it was still not available.

Just bought a Gen 4. No Apple TV support. Bummed to the max. Signed up for beta. Was told to check the community board for confirmation. I need in before my Amazon return clock runs out!!! Can someone tell me where to look?

Would love to beta test this app! Been dying to get this on our Apple TV 4K.

@Dennis_Howard

I bought my Tablo in Dec '23 and most of the apps had the “coming soon” label on them. The Roku didn’t.

I bought it due to that. If the Roku had the “coming soon” label, I would have bought a different vendor. I was on the verge of buying a different vendor but it had a yearly fee. At that point, I would have paid it if Roku was labeled “coming soon.”

I don’t know how users can be mad at the timeline of “coming soon” when there wasn’t an actual date set.

Things I miss from my Tivo

I bought the 4th generation Tablo after my Tivo was failing, and based on reviews, it was the best replacement option available. I’ve been using the Apple TV beta for about a month. Mostly it’s ok, but there are a few features missing (or I can’t find) that I used a lot with my Tivo:

  1. Better Fast Forwarding. I can pause the recording, scroll forward (with previews), but whenever I then press Enter, it goes back to the original location. Sometimes, after 3 or 4 tries, it will actually go forward, but not always.

  2. Commercial Skip – the ability to skip over commercials is a great feature that I miss.

  3. 30-second skip, forward or backward

  4. The ability to change channels without going to the guide. With my Tivo, I could watch a live program, and quickly change channels by pressing the up or down button. With the Tablo, I don’t know of any such option. Pressing the + or - keys on the Apple TV remote does nothing. It would be nice if that moved to the next channel in the guide, or back to the previous one.

I’m hoping that these types of improvements will come in time.

May not have been an actual date but “Coming soon” can not be interpreted as a year later. Based on the post below yours it does not seem as if it is even close to being ready even 6 months into beta.
