I always turn it on for updates and test for at least 2 weeks. And when was the last Roku, firetv, or firmware update.
I do have a firestick and am using that on 1 tv. But I don’t like the interface thus 4 apple tvs. Don’t want to be a beta tester just want the final product. I also have two ota tivos (Bolt and Roamio) and 2 minis that are my primary for right now. I bought it last year because the tivos are a dying breed but never expected it would take this long to get the app.
I will say this though the Tivo S/W is vastly superior to Tablos. Channel tuning is immediate and recording options are far more accurate. On the other hand the tivo tuners are no where as good as the tablos and the tablo is definitely cheaper and requires far less hardware. Once I get the Apple TV app I plan on disconnecting all of my Tivos and rely exclusively on Tablo. Actually I wish Tivo had made a device like Tablo using Tivo S/W.
I have an LG TV and when the app for that was released I tried it and hated it. They forgot to provide a clean way to exit the app. Seems like a basic thing to have verified before release so that along with all the already listed problems does not give me a lot of hope for the Apple TV app when first released.
Comparing Tivo to Tablo is apples and watermelons my dude!
Tivo is vastly way more expensive in multiple ways. Versus a flat $99 device.
Thats like wishing you could get a z06 motor in your Prius. Then comparing the Z06 to the Prius.
Not to mention the whole “you get what you pay for thing.”
Comparing HDMI-connected to LAN- or WAN-connected devices is ridiculous.
Have applied for Beta testing on AppleTv, but have not heard anything back…my legacy device has gone out and am without service on 4 AppleTv’s.
Some response would be appreciated!
Well, I thank you for opinions. Obviously there is a H/W difference but there is nothing wrong in believing Tivos algorithms are excellent and it would only make sense to suggest Tablo has a lot of room for improvement in that field. Your reactions were very strong and I think Tablo could improve their season passes to recognize repeats better then they presently do. They are improving their S/W but at a snails pace. Also I did say that Tablo’s tuners were better and definitely cheaper.
I have no application under this forum name.
I would try applying again using a different device.

When I click on the link in this chat thread above, it says that I’ve already taken the survey. How can I provide the Device serial number to you? (starts with 5087)
Your application must have come in over the weekend. I added you today.
The last coming soon announcement for Apple TV app was from February… any update yet? any targeting timeline to release the app? We have been air mirroring from our iphone to our TV… doable but getting a little bit tired of it… Thanks
The app continues to improve.
Feel free to sign up for the beta and check it out. :).
I just filled out the survey and look forward to trying out the Apple TV app.
I bought a 4th generation Tablo to replace my 12 year old Tivo, which was failing. From what I can see, this will be a nice upgrade. Unfortunately, I have no way to view it on any of my TVs. I have an older Roku unit, which will connect and display video from the Tablo, but there is no sound on any of the broadcast channels – only on the streaming channels. It works great on my iPhone and iPad, but without an app for my Apple TV, I can’t stream to my 65 inch screen. There is no Windows app, so I can’t view programs on my PC either. I have signed up for the beta program, but no response yet. I hope the app will be released soon, or that I will get access to the beta so that I can actually test this on a real TV. Otherwise, I may have to return the unit and look for another solution.
Welcome to the community!
There are a lot of “older Roku” models, so it’s just a guess, but have you tried setting Tablo to use Stereo audio instead of 5.1 surround sound?
How long does it take to get access to the beta app? I signed up for it yesterday and am impatiently waiting.
Greetings! I was wondering if there is any word on my application for the beta program? I forget the date I signed up but it was over a week ago.
Thanks!
I too filled out the survey for the AppleTV beta a day or two ago. I too am awaiting (Im)patiently. I would really like to help get this working!
I also filled out the survey 3 days ago and I am wondering how long it typically takes to get picked for the beta.
Any chance they finished Beta testing and are getting ready to finally release it? Thus no more new reviewers?
