Tablo App keeps shutting down while watching

I just bought the Tablo 4 gen, 4 tuner, and worked great first day. Next day it doesn’t show the channel listings on my Roku, but does on iPhone app. It also started crashing the app on the Roku on love tv after about 5 min (lots of times). I own multiple Rokus, and they all are different results:

Tablo: gen 4, 4 tuner, firmware 2.2.48

Roku express (not 4K): video works for about 10 seconds then scrambles. Audio works

Roku express 4K+: seems to work perfectly (app version 0.8.401-734366, Roku model: 4800X, Roku OS: 12.5.0)

Roku ultra: crashes after 5 min every time. (app version 0.8.401-734366, Roku model: 3941X2, Roku OS: 12.5.0)

iPhone: works perfect except one time when nothing would load today (after a Roku crash) and I had to restart the Tablo. iPhone 13 Pro, app version 1.4.0

I have 4 Rokus TVs, 1 Express 4k+, and 1 2018 Ultra.

This has only happened on my 2018 Ultra. The app randomly closing.

My Roku Ultra (4802X) firmware updated today to 12.5.5 Build 4172-C2

Ever since the 12.5.0 update last fall I’ve been getting “shutdown to Roku Home Screen” problems. We’ll see if this Roku firmware fixes some of the Tablo App issues.

I just applied the firmware update that came out today and now its worse. The app used to crash every 10 minutes and now its more often. Has anyone spoken to texh support at Tablo?

My 4k Express+ wouldn’t connect to any of my Tablos and I ended up uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling the app. Working perfectly now

4th generation on roku ultra. Frequently freezes or exits to roku main screen. During live ota viewing. When ap freezes i sometimes have to reboot roku. Other time home gets me out of ap. Very annoying
.
Hoping a fix rolls out soon

My Roku upgraded to 12.5.5 on 01/04. I didn’t know it happened. I ran multiple tests after I discovered the change a few days ago. The most challenging is what I call the Mega test. With this test, I record 2 ota movies and 2 fast movies while playing 6 recorded movies at the same time on 6 upgraded Roku players. The test was flawless.

The Roku os upgrade cleared up an interface problem between the Tablo Roku app and the Roku os. The Tablo app must have been making a system call to a malfunctioning Roku os function.

Tablo 4tg Gen + Roku 4k Stick / Apple Tablet/Phone Application functionality with USB External Storage support

Notes from prev experience:
Proceeded to quit Tablo App on Roku Stick before turning off tv to hopefully enhance stability per 269587 rec. / Same for application on tablet/phone devices

Recording to device worked fine for a week, no external drive connected.

The day I was going to introduce an 1Tb or greater drive (Per Barrabing note above) there was two power surge/flickers and an 8 hour outages at my residence within 16hrs

The first power surge/flicker seemed to knock Tablo (connected to a surge protector) out of operation temporarily (was not being recognized by the Roku 4k Stick/Apple Tablet/Phone app) but over the course of 10-15min wait, was working again.

Second power surge/flicker a few hours later did not have similar results and had to reset the entire Tablo device to be recognized again on the network. No reset to the Roku stick.

Connected the Tablo to a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) after the second outage - this is where I also connected the external HD (WD 4tb external - single usb3 cable) as since I had to do another complete reset, it seemed logical to set up as complete with accessories.

Third power disruption, the outage, occurred within 2hours of the second surge/flicker and remained out for slightly under 8hrs while I was retired for the evening.

Upon the following day inspection, Tablo was working correctly and had saved episodes on the external.

Current assertation: It’s a solid product that has some flaws that are being ironed out. I look forward to the application update for Roku Stick, but would prefer local apps for Samsung/LG to come as to remove a layer of error potential via the 3rd party devices.

Tablo 4th Gen Firmware 2.2.48 & brand new Roku Ultra 4802X NOW WITH with OS 12.5.5 update

Tablo & Roku both using wired lan connection.

Also upgraded to an external type antenna (currently located on 2nd floor). Reception went from very good to excellent.

UNFORTUNATELY… Live OTA TV still drops after 15 minutes or so. Goes right back to Roku “Home Screen”

BUT overall Tablo/Roku app “performance” feels less clunky since Roku OS 12.5.5 update.

Hopefully we’ll see some action from Tablo on the apparently common Roku issues very soon!

Already set to OFF. Anything else we can try?

Having the same issue with my Brand new Tablo 4th Gen and new Roku Ultra 4802X. Really hoping this problem gets resolved soon. I’m having trouble convincing my family that dropping cable made sense, when the Tablo software on our Roku resets to the Home Screen every 5 to 10 minutes.

I finnaly got mine going by replaceing my roku ultra with a cheap onn from walmart and everything works great.

The problem is with roku and not tablo. every roku I have caused the problem and they are all running 12.5.5 firmware and 12.5.0.

If the problem is Roku, why do all other services work fine only the tablo ap crashes? is it the software interface between roku and tablo? then it is not compatible with Roku, if it isnt being fixed by either company they should stop advertising it as compatible with Roku.

I really wish I could make my Tablo app on my Roku crash, but I can’t. I watched several broadcast channels for an hour and a half today, and it stayed up the whole time.

I’m wondering if it’s a “data difference”. I mean a lot of typical streaming is much less than half the load of what the 4th gen will stream.

Also, and I hate to bring it up, but maybe there are some “bad Rokus” out there (as in, possibly “bad batches”). Would hope this isn’t the case though.

But given the data difference, I could see it being that (the former), especially over some “home” WiFI setups. Maybe the app will crash if the data isn’t of good quality?

Roku is Roku is Roku.

IDK if they understand what some of their products are capable of. I picked up my 4k Express+ when I set up my mom’s new one, and hers won’t update to 12.5.5 but mind did days ago.

It’s hard to say what exactly is going on with these Roku issues. There could be apps that others don’t use, somehow interfering with their system. Haven’t felt like dealing with the stress, so I’ve set mine aside. (Their own camera app isn’t working right on it and without that, there’s no sense plugging it in.)

Making it even more difficult is that these things happen quite randomly. Trying the same thing 2983 times may not always give the same results. I’m willing to bash my head against the wall again over one of them (Express+, 4k Express+) if there’s something that anyone thinks can be repeated…

Watching how things load on each device, I’ve noticed that even playing a recoding, some will start at 0:00:00 and others may start 15 or so seconds ahead. Buffering seems to be something that is unstable. I also have to wonder if the Roku handles those very quick, barely noticeable signal loss blips worse than the Android version. Instead of asking to retry, it just crashes. But, IDK. So much I can’t duplicate half the time either. Just waiting for the word to pull one out and check it out again, but it sounds like not much has changed!

BTW, even though my 3941RW worked for crap before the 12.5.5 update, my mom’s is working fine on 12.5.0. So many variables it’s hard to distinguish anything in particular!

Roku is Roku, if that’s true, then the problem isn’t with Roku since there are numerous people that have zero issues with their Roku. I would not double down on this position. Not saying the Roku can’t be related in some way, but the root cause would seem to be outside of it.

Unless, of course, a Roku isn’t always a Roku. I’d keep that door open as well.
