It sure looks to me like Roku’s 12.5.0 firmware started all this mess when it came out last fall. The technical folks at Roku and Tablo need to get to the root cause and correct this once and for all.
I have the 4660X2 Roku, and the 4th Gen Tablo that I purchased about 2 months ago. Last night (1/4, 7 pm Central) I was trying to watch the Wedding episode on the Golden Bachelor (ok, I know that is lame), but my Tablo shut down over 30 times during the 2 hour show. I guess the good news is that I was able to get it back up and running in a little more than a minute each time. But, I missed out on some of the really good parts, and am not happy about it !!!
Hi folks -
We’re still investigating why some Roku models are experiencing these random shut downs.
One of the paths we’re investigating is whether a particular Roku setting may be affecting playback in some way.
If you’re able to, try disabling the ‘auto-adjust display refresh rate’ setting on your Roku.
You can access this from your main Roku home screen by going to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > ADVANCED SYSTEM SETTINGS > ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTINGS > AUTO-ADJUST DISPLAY REFRESH RATE and set it to OFF if it was ON.
I have the 4800X which has the issue where it goes from the app back to the Roku home screen after 1 hour. Roku SW 12.5.0 Build 4178-C2. Tablo App .8 Build 0401. My refresh was already set to Off.
My refresh was already set to off too. As others have said, off appears to be the default setting.
Mine was set to off as well
3910RW doesn’t have this feature, randomly returns to live guide any time between a few seconds and about 20 minutes.
3941RW is already off, occasionally returns to live guide, but less often.
I have the new Roku ultra mine started to do it last night it will run for 19min and go to the Home Screen refresh rate is already off
It appears I do not have this option to try. I have a TCL tv with built in Roku model 7109X
Roku OS 12.5.0
Application version is 0.8.401-734366
Tablo firmware 2.2.48when will this be resolved. I am out of my return window and now I cannot watch live tv. It’s been 2 weeks and others have had this issue since November. Tablo needs to get with Roku to fix this issue. I cannot use your product as advertised.
We also have a TCL with Roku built in. Model 55S20, Hardware C147X, Software 12.5.0 build 4176-93 Latest update was 11-1-23. Tablo Firmware 2.2.48. App was working fine until last week. I have no problems watching live TV via the app on my iPad and iPhone. Hope a fix comes soon.
Brand new Tablo 4 Gen / 4 Tuner paired with Roku Ultra. Many of the same problems as described above. Been working with Tech Support, who at least admitted there’s a problem and it is being worked on. I’ve got an Amazon Fire Stick 4k coming, will report back if that fixes all the freezing and kick backs to home screen.
6 January 2024: After weeks of re-booting, restarting, factory resetting and frustration, my Tablo continues to shut down. Today, 3 times in the first 10 minutes of the Ravens/Steelers game. This has been a nonstop issue for too long. My Tablo has been disconnected and will not be plugged in again until I get notice that this problem is fixed. I only wish I could return the unit for a refund.
Same problem. My brothers and sisters work. I am going to try to exchanging mine. Customer service cannot help
Have you guys tried using a different viewing app for your Tablo as a temporary fix? Over and over again it’s been stated that there’s a huge issue with the Roku app.
$100 Tablo v $20 Roku… maybe it’s time for an upgrade?
Least of all, though, wouldn’t it be worth taking a few minutes to see if the Android or FireOS app works better?
I just posted this on another thread, I’ve had my best success on TCL Roku TVs all updated latest app/os using an Antenna not provided by Tablo. FAST channels are hit and miss with 600x600 fiber on a 1Gbps router. FAST does seem to work better when every thing is on 2.4 WiFi.
A few days ago, I thought the same thing about OTA stations when I was doing Roku testing. I hadn’t played around with FAST, though, since it sounded like that had been working okay. But now you’ve got me curious! I haven’t had much trouble with the 3941, but I can run the 3910 for a little bit on FAST. (As long as i don’t have to physically LOOK at the squished or cornered image!)
Although IDK how useful this will be since the Express+ can only access a 2.4g network…
Been having the same issue with Roku. I saw earlier a post to pause the current channel, switch channels and switch back and that seems to work for at least several hours, sometimes until the next day. One thing to add to this experience… Before the issue starts happening again, the video stream on the Roku app freezes but audio continues uninterrupted. If I go out of the channel and back in everything is normal for a little while but then the app begins closing itself again until I do the “pause switch” trick. Anyone else noticing the video freeze before it happens?
Definitely a Roku issue, switched back to my fire cube, works fine.
Same issue while live stream
Pause picture, audio continues for a while, then total lock up, then reset to Roku menu.
Happens on channel stream of 720p+, not lower 480p
I have 3 Roku devices running of the tablo 4gen. 2 work fine, 1 has the crash problem.

Adding. Pausing live stream for a couple minutes and then resuming play eliminated issue. Obviously, some issue with realtime signal transmission. Signal isn’t great in my area so probably not buffering and handling signal blips well
But there is still an underlying tech issue that I hope tablo fixes with app or firmware update
