Groovy. It seems that would be a great selling point for Legacy owners.
Why would this be a selling point for legacy users since it already works for at least fire tv stick and roku.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I believe the Legacy and Legacy app was fine to record and watch without Internet once it was set up.
I guess I completely misunderstood the title of this thread. Sorry.
Support for legacy effectively ended years ago. The last firmware update my network units received was 2.2.42 from 2022.

Ok. I don’t own or use any Legacy devices.
But if I did…
I would inventory all the functions and features that I use/need/must have so that I can compare them to the Gen4.
Then find work arounds or create Feature Requests for Gen4.
OTOH… I don’t own or use any Legacy devices.
Here is a legacy feature request list from 2014. Users figured it out and stopped posting to the thread.
Users who really want a feature just might look else where and that is the work around.

After a little research on the Legacy 2-tuner Network DVR from 2014/15, although the chip supports MPEG-4…
Why an Update is Technically Impossible
- The Transcoder Pipeline is One-Way: The internal ViXS XCode 5190 hardware pipeline in the legacy Tablo is rigid. It expects an incoming MPEG-2 raw transport stream from the Panasonic demodulator, which it then compresses down into an MPEG-4 (H.264) stream for your local network. The chip cannot bypass its hardware-wired encoder to directly accept or process a stream that arrives already compressed in MPEG-4 format. [1, 2]
- Demodulator/Firmware Restrictions: The legacy frontend tuner and firmware stack were never built to pass MPEG-4 ATSC 1.0 subchannels down the chain. Tablo official documentation (that @zippy already provided) explicitly confirms that legacy network-connected devices cannot decode or recognize these newer broadcast formats, meaning those channels will simply fail to appear during a channel scan

Almost a super BINGO. Maxlinear MxL603, Panasonic demodulator, VIVX CPU and software stack.
Other than testing when first updating to the new firmware I have only used the legacy app for my legacy Tablo. Probably mostly because I use my laptop to access it.
I’m not trying to be rude but what will you do after September 1, 2026 when one of the Legacy apps malfunctions or needs support?
Or you determine that what you could do on the Legacy app doesn’t work for the Gen4 app.

Same thing as before September 1st. The legacy apps have bugs in them that are probably 5+ years old. You just live with them and find workarounds. That may involve using a legacy app that doesn’t have the problem.
…or, switch to the Gen4 app (except for the HDMI-connected models) if you have the correct firmware installed.
NOTE for future users: if you don’t have the updated firmware (2.2.60 or later) on your Legacy Tablo, please contact Tablo Support directly to see if they can manually push it to your device. You might also need to get a newer television or a new streaming device (Onn, Fire, Roku, Apple, etc) to be compatible with the Gen4 app.
Your recordings and schedule shouldn’t be affected.
You’re absolutely correct. Why should I care? I don’t even have a Legacy device.

It’s my understanding that this hardware configuration is not the same on all Legacy devices.
But I was wrong once before.
