I think you got it backwards.

$150 was for Lifetime Guide Subscription.
(Lifetime Guide Subscription amount is even in your 1st post requesting a refund for it.)

Premium Service was for things, like commercial skip.

Yep you are correct. Premium was NOT part of the lifetime sub. If it was I would have bought it back then.

So the lifetime provided the ~~ two week guide. Now all folks get a two week guide with the newer software, which some could say invalidates the lifetime’s value but in reality they are still getting their two week guide.

I just paid my 20 bucks for premium skip less than 2 months ago. I love the feature, but seriously things change and while I will miss the feature I am not going to lose my mind with the evolution of where Tablo is going.

Tablo has been great and overall I feel fairly treated. I do hope that in the next few years they get on the ATSC 3 wagon or I fear they will get left behind.

Agree, agree, and agree - with the addition of continuing to make the UI/UX more user-friendly and intuitive across platforms. If they can do that, it would make moving to the Gen4 app worth it and maybe quell some naysayers.

Your right, thanks. I had it flipped there, but still same point. I just mispoke in my last post.

Not “losing my mind” if other users were reading it that way-- we value commerical skip. It’s why we purchased Tablo. We don’t want to see ads and it was a brilliant feature that made Tablo an intriguing alternative to Tivo AND it was cheaper.

New guides, better interface…all great. But not nearly as valuable as commercial skip to us.

When someone has their profile tied to a device and then moves to a new device (ex. Roku, Apple iPhone, etc.), I often find that the apps from the previous device “transfer” to the new device. When this happens, is the new device “downloading” the apps from the old device or from the app store, etc? I’d like to know as I’m close to replacing a phone and wondering if sooner is better if I want to use a legacy app on the new phone. Or… will the setup of the ‘settings and apps’ somehow transfer to the new phone based on the apple account (or in the Roku ecosystem, a new Roku device, etc.) ?

I believe the apps are reloaded from the app store, same with a Roku. There may be some technical way to extract an app for loading on the new device, but this is not an option for most folks.

While is is possible, the practice is not supported or advertised in any way (btw, saying exactly that got me permanently banned from the Roku subreddit). Which is sort of humorous (IYKYK).

I agree commercial skip is cool, but it didn’t work well enough for me when they started charging for it.
I got very good at fast forwording thru commercials myself.

After using the new Gen4 app for two days, I’m back using the legacy app. The new app is one step forward and two steps backward IMO. If you can’t keep the functionality of the legacy app, then you are going to lose your client base. What’s wrong with taking features from the legacy app and improve on that as a starting point? When I return from a vacation, I can’t look at my list of shows to rapidly see which ones have new recordings and easily decide which ones I want to watch first. I have to go through two weeks of recordings to see what’s new. I’ve yet to find a reason to use the new app.

Your 4th Gen app will have 14 days of rolling guide data subscription free.

Your Legacy app still needs a TV Guide Data service subception to get the same 14 days.

If you cancel the legacy subscription your legacy app will be limited to 24 hours of guide data. However, if you switch to your 4th Gen app, it will keep its 14 days of data.

Since I didn’t like the Gen4 app on my Roku, I thought I’d try it on my LG TV using the native WebOS interface. What a steaming pile of crap. I tried to watch a recording in progress and I could only watch the live view so I went back to the Roku until the show finished recording. After the recording finished, I went back to the tv WebOS and tried to watch it from where I left off using the Roku and it refused. I couldn’t even fast forward from the start to pick up where I left off. That app will destroy Roku IMO. Unfortunately, the legacy app no longer works on WebOS even though I had it downloaded. I think I have to look for Tablo alternatives now.

I would tell you to wait and see if the firetv stick 4k MAX goes on sale for $40 during the upcoming prime day sale. But the gen 4 fire tv stick app is just as bad if not worse then the roku app.

I may buy one if on sale just to load the legacy app on as backup.

Good idea. Just make sure you don’t buy the wrong one with the new OS (Select, I think) by mistake. I recently bought my M-in-L the Plus - waiting to hear back from her if it’s working or not.

I have a question regardless of what happens with the app will the tuner in the HDMI boxes will continue to pick up over the air signal and will they still record or are we going to lose that ability

Hi @kajak,

Your HDMI Tablo’s onboard interface and the legacy Tablo apps that support in-home streaming will remain accessible but won’t be maintained or updated. You’ll be able to pick up over-the-air singals and record, just as you’re currently able, as long as the software and hardware continue to work.

I am having exactly the opposite experience. Reading around here on the forum I was very hesitant to even try the “new” Tablo Gen4 app because I didn’t like the thought of not being able to view a recording from start while it was being recorded. BUT ---- > that is not the experience I am getting on the Gen4 app using my legacy Tablo. I can easily start from the beginning, or fast forward to any point in the recording, or go back to any point easily and very quickly while the recording is still taking place. The Gen4 app is so much faster and nicer than my legacy app was. [Caveat: I am not overlooking commercial skip. I have simply resolved that the feature will sunset around the end of the year. Full stop.]

Yes I am a power user and my advice for folks wanting a new streaming device is to use an ONN google player. Google doesn’t screw around and limit you from sideloading and they have not disabled ADB like firestick has. The Tablo app performs flawlessly on ONN. Actually I go a step further using Linux mini computers running Android but that is way beyond this discussion and forum I would think. Its the ultimate control but comes with a learning curve.

Back to basics: use an ONN and enjoy! They are almost a price match for Firesticks but still offer freedom. BTW - I still have a few Firesticks running in bedrooms but they are basic use and not power user oriented. Tablo is running perfectly on the Firesticks with watching recordings in progress as well.

If this is a problem I don’t know if you can blame Tablo, you have just picked the wrong hardware, or at least not the better selections that are out there.

Would the Onn device support out of home streaming using the legacy app (does it count as “android” in the list provided?
