Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns

It’s a known problem. Possible workaround is here.

This is a Roku induced error that popped up when they pushed out Roku OS 14. Tablo is working on a fix. Try the workaround that Ron1 suggested. It works for some, but not everyone. For some they get picture, but no sound. That is what happened on one of my older Roku.

You can find more information in the thread called “Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns.”

We’ll move this to the proper thread so as to keep everything in one place.

Good Day Tabloids!
I am having an issue with my Tablo 4th generation and Roku stick.
When I click on a program in “the guide” to watch it live, Tablo acts like it is going to load and then goes back to the guide.
When I click on a recorded program to watch it, Tablo acts like it is going to play and then goes back to the list of recorded programs.
I have un-installed the Tablo app, rebooted the Roku stick and reinstalled the app several times.
I have unplugged the Tablo device to reset it.
None of this has helped :pensive:.

We have 2 other TVs with Roku sticks and Tablo is working without any issues.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
TBone

See the thread called “Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns.” You probably got ‘upgraded’ to Roku ver, 14.

Moving this thread to our Roku 14 one. Just to keep everything in one place.

Well, I’ll be darned. It worked. Thank you all so much.

I’m still getting no sound on the Roku-based TabloTV app, although sounds fine on the phone app. It’s a Roku Express 4K+, serial number X02200JSP8MF, model 3941X2, device ID S0HAK3CSP8MF. The ROKU-based Sling app for my AirTV Anywhere works just fine. Audio is fine. Same ROKU with Tablo: But Tablo gives no sound whatsoever. The only way I can get dialog is to use Closed Captioning, which seems to work fine.

Here are my ROKU audio settings:
Preferred streaming format: Auto
Digital output format: Custom/Dolby
Any other setting, and the Tablo app crashed back to the menu. Won’t play at all.

When will ROKU or Tablo fix this problem? I haven’t been able to watch a single Tablo recording for weeks now. Mighty glad I bought that backup DVR AirTV Anywhere. It never fails.

@TabloTV @TabloEngineering @TabloSupport

Well, here is a weird one. My Roku Soundbar (9101X) just updated to 14.0.4 and the Tablo app (0.8.800-734366) works just fine. No problems. Maybe because it doesn’t use the sound settings of the TV?

Edit - I do still have the Xs instead of numbers.

Edit #2 - I think the X’d out numbers in the timestamp is a font issue. It looks like with Roku 14.x the fonts changed on some things and this font might be gone.

It depends on the specific model and set up. Two of my Roku have updated. One doesn’t work post update (the workaround gives me picture no sound), and one works mostly okay (I do have the weird issue with timestamps on the progress bar "X"ed out).

This procedure resolved playback of OTA broadcasts and recordings. Video playback works as expected. Audio only works for TVs that support Dolby; TVs with stereo only do not play audio.
Audio doea not work on Roku remote with headphones regardless of connected TV.

Same issue here. I spoke at length to Tablo Support. At their recommendation, I placed the unit in Diagnostic / Remote mode. It ran in that mode for hours. After contacting Tablo Support again, I was forwarded an email that said Tablo is working on a firmware update and there is no alternative. Apparently this affects only certain Roku devices. I am using a wired connection Roku Premier +. I switched to a different Roku unit and Tablo works correctly. I don’t know how I’ll ever be notified of a firmware update now that I have disconnected the currently incompatible Roku unit.

Any time a firmware update is available to the public, a blue screen informing you so will appear so that you can choose to update.

any luck resolving this? changed mine to dolby too. get picture now but no sound.

Similar problem here. 4th Gen Tablo* will play OTA on our Roku in living room, but not on a separate TV / Roku in the bedroom - there when you click play it gives the spinning ball and then goes back to the guide.

The channels that Tablo is pushing (e.g., ION) play fine in both.

*We had a Legacy that worked seamlessly with both TV’s (its DVR died, hence the move to Gen 4). DOES ANYONE ELSE HATE THE NEW GUIDE FORMAT? Why do I have to keep clicking through from the Home page to get to favorites, instead of giving to option to default-open on favorites? In the non-favorites, why do channels I unselect still appear so I have to scroll through them on the guide? Why isn’t there a “Page up / Page down” for the Guide so one can peruse through quickly?

Here in Houston, there’s absolutely no Guide data available right now on a Roku Express 4K+ based Tablo app. It’s impossible to make a recording on that device. I’ve done multiple Guide updates, but no luck so far.

Fortunately, the Tablo app on my phone does show Guide data. Not sure why Roku can’t see it.

Are you on version 13 or 14?

I wish I were on 13. Unfortunately, Roku automatically deployed version 14 on me without my consent. Now I have no sound at all on Tablo. Worthless pos.

They have a work around in the Main Roku Thread. You have to make some manual audio changes in the Roku settings.

Why is Tablo the pos? Roku did the update!
