Ridiculous waste of money

I can’t believe that a year after I purchased my Tablo, I am still having such difficulties with both of the Tablo devices that I purchased. It is one thing after the next. The most recent issue is so messed up and wonky it is difficult to even describe. And Tablo’s suggestions are less than helpful.

I’ve wasted money and too much time on trying to make this work. Guess it is time to see what I can get on eBay although I feel kind of bad selling a product that continues to be so glitch.

It would certainly help if you described something about your troubles, if only which streaming device you are using. I’ve had my Gen 4 for about four months. Even on my four different Roku devices I have had few troubles. I canceled DirecTV and am saving more than $150.00 per month. My Tablo has better than paid for itself. I’m not going to pretend it is perfect, but I am really pleased with it.

Thanks. I will try and find a way to explain. It is complicated. Right now I just deleted scheduled recordings and re-scheduled by using iOS app.

I am glad that you are happy with your Tablo. I’m not.
As I said in my post, the (current) issue is so complicated it is hard to even explain it.
I’ll come back with more when I am able to put it into words. If I haven’t thrown both devices in the garbage prior.

Yea. It is real hard trying to find a possible solution, if they don’t know where to start. Try just sitting down and typing your problems and the things you have tried, we might just see something in your description of problems. No AH’s on the help side here just start typing.

Why post if you can’t explain to get help?

Guess you could say I was venting. Shoulda kept it to myself I suppose until I could figure out a way to ask for help.

OK. So I’ll do this piecemeal. Here is the latest issue. There are 3 live shows that I have a a series recording scheduled on CourtTV M-F. 9-11am, 11-3pm, 3-7pm.

Just now I was watching the recording of the 11am-3pm show. I had fast forwarded enough through commercials that I was watching live (around 11:30am). For some reason the screen went from streaming the show to the Home Screen. Now the recording is no longer showing up in “Latest” recordings or “All” recordings. It’s just gone.

UPDATE: I had 2 Tablo devices, Tablo 2 and Tablo 4. I had the same shows set to record on both devices. I was just watching that same recorded show on the 2nd device. Same thing happened. Switched to Home Screen and then recording completely disappeared.

I live with a disabling medical condition and I really don’t have the energy or brain power to be dealing with this. I don’t understand how they are getting away with selling a product that has so many issues.

Okay, I have a guess… I can’t explain why it would have exited the program when you got the end while still recording, I haven’t heard of that. However, there is a known issue where you watch a recording to its completion and it automatically vanishes from the library. As far as I know that is a Roku only problem.

In that case, if you open the Tablo app on your phone you should see the program in your library. Play just a few minutes of it on your phone, and it SHOULD reappear in the library in your Roku.

This is a known issue and Tablo is working on a fix.

I am having this issue as well. in addition to when fast forwarding or rewinding, it also does it when my device is paused.

Thanks @KGBnut. Good to know that it is not just me. I’ll try what you suggested.

PS. It might be obvious from my description, but on both devices it stopped recording the 11-3 show, despite in the program grid it indicating that it is still recording.

Nothing wrong with venting.
I find it helps to vent, then work on the problem.
Who the heck can think clearly when pissed off?

To avoid many replies to a venting session…
State that you are venting, and don’t want help yet.
You just gotta get it out of your system.

You’ll come back to clearly define the problem later.

Thanks for the suggestion. Will do. I guess that I just don’t have the patience to be using a product that continually has issues.

OK. So here is the latest issue. Similar to issues I have been having. I have 3 series recording set on CourtTV (not OTA, but built in channel). From 9-11am, 11-3pm, and 3-7pm. At the suggestion of Tablo support these were initiated on the iPhone Tablo app.

This morning around 9:30 I started watching (on my Apple TV) the 9-11a recording that was actively being recorded. When it got to approximately 49 minutes into the recording (I did some fast forwarding) the recording stopped and the screen went back to the Home Screen.

I see in “failures” the recording. It says “Unknown error. Check antenna and network connections.” This is not an OTA recording and my network connection is fine.

I have 2 tablo devices. Similar thing happened on the 2nd device. Only recorded 49 minutes, but there is no failure error.
