question being, is that practical or possible? I don’t understand the tech myself.
But I have been reading here from day 1 how many people prefer the Legacy, and about the gen4 struggles.
And then in this latest outage both Legacy and gen4 went down.
I would think a product that works 100% of the time and provides services and features people want would be the place to start (over). As we see in the comments, some people are willing to pay the higher price for a Zapperbox or HDHomeRun that works.
But I have to wonder why our Gen4 recovered quickly while others didn’t. Could it have most affected those that were in the process of setting them up? I had that happen to me with my Tempest Wx Station - wasted a whole day trying to figure it out while it was their system that was down.
For us, the most important one is General Hospital, ABC@2:00 and the commercial riddled World News w/David Muir, ABC@6:30. The wife is very upset she had to watch them live. Typically she skips segments and commercials. And Jeopardy is also not there, though ATM it is only repeats so no big deal.
But yea, it seems like the New York based programs on the Big 3 that are either live (like GMA) or a recent taping series are all not showing.
I got help from some engineer friends when I got my first PC. They laid out a number of principles. One was that you don’t assume immediately that your machine is at fault when there’s a problem with your setup. If everything else about your PC is as far as you can tell working properly, it’s probably not your machine’s fault that your email is not working, or your weather station is not working etc.
So if your computers, roku etc are working, and Tablo sticks out as the one service that is not working, there’s a good chance the problem is on Tablo’s end and you will just have to wait for them to fix it.
It pains me so much reading here with these server outages that our fellow users, some of them, work and strain to fix the fault on their end, except it’s not their fault, therefore their efforts to fix the fault will be useless.
For me it would be a priority for Tablo to be set up to send out some sort of notification when things are out of order on their end. But the way these system are set up I wonder if this is even possible.
Plus it’d be great if those competing recorders, zapper etc., always “just worked”, but I am sure they have their own problems, we just have not discussed them here. Where are the zapper forums, I have looked but did not find anything.
Good point. Someone did a review of the zapperbox for ATSC 3.0 stations and it took quite of few seconds for the channels to load. I really use my Tablo to record shows for playback probably at least 80% or more. Also we have one of the first flat screen TVs from Sony that takes for ever to change channels. My wife uses it sparely when she crafts.
I know Tablo has some quirks but for the most part I have been able to live it them. When I brought the latest Roku Ultra it made a huge difference in all the load times of my Apps.
I signed on sometime in 2023 when Tablos were cattywampus from Tablo updates, Roku updates, and some server trouble thrown in. But since the last Superbowl, pretty good. Also upgraded my home network and antennas. Seemed to help after I got an Ultra too.
It’s $100, not milspec or SOA—I can live with it for my modest needs. However I sailed through this latest outage, luckily, and I’d be a far less sanguine observer if I’d had no service for a day or two.
I agree with you just said for the past few hours! ive been saying that for a long time. Just got tired of typing the same stuff over and over again. When there is an outage, the most I will do is reboot my Tablo. Which Ive done 3 times since March.
I sailed through this outage with very minimal issue. Roku, Android, Apple TV user here. We got them all.
My wife watches quite a bit of major station shows. Like clock work, every week! She is the product of 90s teenager TV watching. I didnt hear anything from her during the outage. Which is good luck for me (happy wife happy life), I should play the lottery LOL.
Also, How many shows does Gordon Ramey have?! I’m waiting for him to show up in space and start cooking on the moon.
Same here @KimchiGUN. Minimal problems through the outage I think mainly because I didn’t panic and start rebooting everything. I didn’t even reboot during this outage because I knew it wasn’t a problem on my end.
I have some of the blank spaces in my guide but that is all. I’m sure it will all work out.
I’m still having the issue with the empty spots on my TV guide. Updating the guide in settings does nothing. The big 5 - abc, nbc, cbs, fox, and pbs - have empty segments. Certain hours with no programming available. I also have an additional 10 channels (some being subchannels) with absolutely no information across the grid. It seems the outage is fixed, but we still have an issue making recording nigh impossible. It could be worse, but…
Using Roku. My wife struggles with tech but she knows how to Roku her Hallmark on Friendly TV!!! We watch Idol, Tracker, and a few other OTA channels so having this with DVR is a Godsend… BTW, I always liked Kolchak back in the days too… Perry Mason not so much… But at 75 I saw them before reruns…lol
So did this 75 year old. My favorite show back in the day. I bought the whole dvd set the minute it came out. Great show. And now I’m the one hooked on Korean dramas
I’m using an ONN streaming box on our main tv and a Roku on the secondary TV. This broken guide is the same on both devices. It’ll have to be fixed from the Tablo end.
By the way, I was 9 years old when Kolchak first aired.
