We started having the same problem this past week, and the “kick back” to the guide happens every few minutes making it impossible to watch ANYTHING. Happens on two different tvs which each have a different roku model. Happens in both live tv and recorded events. The info on our Rokus is as follows:
Roku streaming stick+ model 3810x.
Software Ver 14.6.4
Roku 3 - 4200x. Software ver. 14.6
Tablo - bought in June 2025
for 2 tuners 50 hrs record time
firmware 2.2.54
We are having the same issue, trying to watch a recording and getting kicked back to the guide about every 2 minutes. This is a serious issue. Our tablo is basically useless right now. Can’t even use it to watch anything. Seems to get much worse about the 7pm time slot. I’ve been trying to be patient but next week is not acceptable timeline for an update to be provided. You should be working around the clock until it is resolved. @TabloSupport@TabloEngineering
Ever since the major outage a few months ago, I started doing a System Restart at least 3 times a week. I’ll do a Settings → System → About, and if the uptime is 2 or more days, I’ll do the restart. It seems to have helped.
Watching a program on live TV and it will just stop, go back to the channel guide. I will click on it to go back into the program. it will stay there maybe for a minute sometimes longer and then go right back to the channel guide again. It is very annoying I miss my programs when I have to keep clicking on the channels to go back in to the program.
We have 3 Rokus with the Tablo app. One plays back OK, but the other 2 do not. Selecting a recorded episode to play eventually kicks back out to the library episode menu. All of our Tablo apps have been updated to version 1.2.1. The 2 Roku sticks that do not work are models 3820R2 and 3810X. Both are running Roku OS version 14.6.4. Please help.
Both my Roku 3810’s ( I have 2) are working OK after the “fix”. Things to try…maybe tech support will tell you this too so sorry if I am being redundant.
Delete the Tablo app on both Roku’s. Don’t worry you won’t loose any Tablo recordings or settings.
Unplug Roku from TV. Do you use TV to power it or are you using a power adaptor? Either way completely remove the power.
Plug Roku back in and reinstall the Tablo app.
This may help but maybe a quick reset go the Tablo in addition to restarting Roku will help to.
Thanks. Had tried all those before. My Roku Ultra is the only one that works. It was an older model that I swapped out last week, but both the old AND new Ultra models both played back recordings fine.
Fix isn’t working for me on 1 Roku ultra which happens to be running Roku version 15.0.4 Build 5531. I have 3 other Roku devices (another ultra, an express and Roku TV) that are running version 14.6 and they seem to be working fine. I can also play everything on a Tablet / my phone.
I have Tablo app 1.2 build 1 on all and running firmware 2.2.54 on the Tablo itself.
On the Roku 15 device, I can watch live TV but if I try to play a recorded show from my library it will briefly show the title card and circular progress / loading image (as normal) but then will just go to a black screen that has the time in the top right and won’t do anything. I can use the left / right buttons to page through the timeline thumbnails but if I try to play anything it goes back to the black screen. At first it was only a handful of things in the library (ie a handful of episodes of certain shows would black screen, but others were fine) yesterday I could only watch the news recorded that morning, now everything is blocked.
I’ve tried the Audio “compatibility” mode changes, uninstalling (rebooting) and re-installing the app, clearing the cache on the roku, etc nothing seems to work.
Subject: Tablo app on Roku 3830R shows guide but won’t play live or recorded TV (Roku OS 14.6 issue)
Hi,
I’m having an issue where the Tablo TV app on my Roku Streaming Stick+ (Model 3830R) displays the program guide and channels correctly, but when I select any live or recorded program it just spins for a few seconds and then returns to the guide — no error message appears.
The same Tablo works fine on my phone and via web (my.tablotv.com), so the problem seems specific to the Roku app.
Here are my Roku details:
Model: 3830R – Roku Streaming Stick Plus
Serial number: X03700CLHRP5
Device ID: S1C3353LHRP5
Software version: Roku OS 14.6 (latest build)
Tablo Roku app version: 1.2 build 1
Network connection: Wi-Fi 5 GHz (Tenda_971DF5_5G)
IP address: 192.168.0.187
I’ve already:
Verified the Tablo and Roku firmware are up to date
Deleted and reinstalled the Tablo app
Rebooted both the Roku and the Tablo DVR
Performed a full factory reset on the Roku
Confirmed playback works normally on mobile and PC
From what I’ve read, it looks like Roku OS 14.6 may have introduced a compatibility issue with the current Tablo Roku app (v 1.2.1). Can you confirm if this version of the Roku OS is still in early rollout and whether a newer Tablo app build (such as 1.2.2) is expected to resolve the issue?
Please let me know if you need logs or additional diagnostics.
After significant testing, the Product Team determined that the Roku Streaming Stick+ (3830) is not compatible. Unfortunately, it does not have the video codecs to play MPEG-2 video, which is what the 4th Generation Tablo uses for its crisp, clear picture.
The Roku Streaming Stick Plus with model number 3830R was released in May 2025. Given that the current date is October 2025, the device is only a few months old. So you’re saying that tablo is no longer compatible with newer Roku models.
Hmmm..
Okay, what current models does it work with? I’ve done some more digging and from what I understand they removed a chip from the devices I’m hoping it’s only the small stick versions to save space.
In the meantime I may have found a workaround to use it with my TV. If the Samsung TV I have isn’t too old I can install the app on it instead of the Roku.
