Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.2.1)

Hi folks -

An update to the 4th Generation Tablo app for Roku is now available, which includes a hotfix for the issue some users have been seeing recently.

You should see the update shortly, but if you’d like to get it right away, navigate to the Tablo app on your Roku device’s home screen and hit the star button (*) on your Roku remote. Then select ‘Check for Updates’.

Here’s what you can expect:

Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.2.1)

  • Fix for issue where playback would periodically crash and return the user to the previous menu

If you have any questions or problems with this update, post them below or touch base directly with support.

Watch Tablo most of this evening, and so far, the problem seems to be solved.

Thanks.

I rarely saw the issues that others have experienced. Instead, I got the “Offline Mode Required” message. I haven’t seen it since the update.

Seems very solid so far, but the best feature is the ability to see frames during fast forward and rewind operations. I can now see when the commercials end and the content resumes.

Great work development.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have been using Tablo with Roku for over a year, and I thought that it always had thumbnail images when advancing and backing up (only for completed recordings).

Am I missing something?

Completed shows have had this since I brought the Tablo gen-4 almost two years ago. It doesn’t do it on a show you are taping that you came in late to and want to start at the beginning. I usually hit the right arrow key 12-21 times which ff 120 seconds to 210 seconds to skip most of the commercials.

After the show is finished recording is when Tablo does the book-keeping for the thumbnails.

No, apparently my Tablo TV, being a new one had to upgrade from the previous firmware. Apologies!

Last night about 7 PM Central Time Tablo froze. This has happened a few times before but after a minute ROKU restarted on its own and everything went back to normal. This time I tried different things with the ROKU remote to no avail except it did turn the TV off. I finally reset the Tablo with a quick button push and everything went back as it should. Not a big deal except I had Tracker recording at start(7) but football overran. I just wonder if this would have allowed Tracker to record if I didn’t intervene.

Waiting in this case may have saved the Tracker recording.

I’m experiencing being booted out of the app on Roku. Not sure if this is an after effect on Roku’s end or not. But also keeping an open mind that Roku could get this fixed.

If you haven’t already, try Audio Compatibility Mode, it may help.

Yeah, I occasionally have Roku TV lockups. However, I’ve had Hulu, Netflix and Apple TV all occasionally lockup and restart my Roku.
Not sure who to point the finger at in this case as it’s happening with other apps than just Tablo TV alone. I really wish my supposedly smart TV was more stable.
I periodically, at least every two weeks do a Roku reset/clear cache function. This is performed by the following:

  1. Press the Home button 5 times in a row.
  2. Press the UP arrow once.
  3. Press the << arrow twice.
  4. Press the >> arrow twice.

You see the menus scroll on the screen and the TV or Roku streaming device restarts along with a cache clearing. TV is stable a lot longer than just a restart from the menu.
