Hi folks -

Today we’re updating the Tablo apps for Windows 10 and Xbox. If you’re confused about why we’re suddenly updating unsupported legacy apps, there is a reason!

Keep reading to learn why…


First, Some History
For those of you who aren’t long-time Tablo users, at one time we fully supported and maintained Tablo apps for Windows 10 and Xbox.

Unfortunately the codebase for these apps became quite difficult to maintain and our focus slowly shifted to more popular platforms (like Roku, Fire TV, Android TV, & Apple TV).

The Windows 10 and Xbox apps were last updated in early 2019 and official support ended in late 2020.


Why the Update Now?
This app update is the first step in a full refresh of the Tablo app for PCs which is currently slated to launch later this fall.

In the coming months, support for our current web-based app at my.tablotv.com will end and when it’s ready, the Windows 10 desktop app will be updated with the brand new Tablo app code base.

By switching to a downloadable desktop app format, in the future we can create some new and innovative features that are not possible with the latest browser-based technology.


This is why we encourage you to download and switch to the Windows 10 app ASAP. This will ensure you can continue to access your Tablo on your PC throughout this transition, that your DVR is paired with this new app for Tablo Connect before support for my.tablotv.com ends, and that you continue to receive app updates as we move forward.

What’s Next for Xbox?
This is still the end of the road for the Tablo app on Xbox. We hope the small number of regular users of this platform will appreciate this last update with bug fixes and additional features but the small and shrinking userbase means it doesn’t make sense to maintain this app moving forward.


How Do I Get the Tablo Windows 10 App?
If you have a PC running Windows 10 you can visit the Microsoft store and download the Tablo app for free:


What If I Use a MAC Computer?
Users of MAC computers can continue to access the Tablo app at my.tablotv.com via the Safari browser for the time being.


Here’s what you can expect from today’s update:


Tablo Windows 10/Xbox App Update (v. 1.9.9)

  • Adds Automatic Commercial Skip (functionality only, no success/error messages)
  • Adds Tablo Connect (Windows 10 only)
  • Adds 5.1 Surround Sound
  • Many other bug fixes and performance improvements

Aside from the addition of Surround Sound, this app should function just like the web based app at my.tablotv.com does right now on Chrome.

Uh… As a Linux user I rely on my.tablotv.com to use Tablo.

Are you saying it’s going away for all users? Or just those on Windows 10/Xbox?

Use of Tablo’s web app via Linux was never officially supported, however some were using the Chrome/Chromium browser to do so. Due to browser-based technology changes, Linux support will also end. However, it is possible for Linux users to use older versions of Chrome or install a Windows virtual machine and use the Windows 10 app as a workaround.

Drat it all. Why does Nuvyyo exist? What’s the point? To be different? Apparently, it’s to be “same”. I think you really missed something here.

@TabloTV - please also say that the mobile apps (Android and iOS) will finally be updated as part of this bigger change?

There is no “Most Recent” filter available on the Recordings page on the Windows 10 app. Please fix this before http://my.tablotv.com/ no longer works.

AppleTV - for 2020 it had only 2.7% market share. The lowest of the branded devices. Even Tizen had 4X the market share.

It’s more like King Tut’s royal elevator - the shaft. And I stopped using the brower app a few years ago.

Older than what? Where is is the archive of google’s chrome browser.
So in the end, the web based app won’t be discontinued? just not supported? or further developed?

If you want to keep an eye on the game while working on your PC or MAC laptop, or if you have a Home Theatre PC (HTPC) setup in the basement, you can enjoy live and recorded content from Tablo via the web app at my.tablotv.com.

Make no specifics as to what my HTPC need as an OS… or that a PC is defined as Windows - just needs to support a browser.

May not have supported an operating system but specified a system capable of running a recommended browser.

There may have been more to this that anyone ever knew…

Their device is loaded with open source software, they not only include their own agreement, they don’t include the one they agree to include with the software they profit from :frowning_face:

Today there are a couple more categories for TV shows in the Web App that don’t seem to be in the updated Windows 10 App

@TabloSupport Ok, granted that some things aren’t possible with HTML5 directly, but what about when supplemented with “web extensions” (aka browser extensions)?

FWIW, I use a user-script to auto-skip the firmware update notification from my.tablo.com.

I’ve had a Tablo Dual since 2014 and literally just ordered a replacement today but I’m canceling that order if the web app is not an option anymore - I use it literally every day.

What is really going on here? Browsers aren’t suddenly going to stop supporting h.264 video streams, so there must be a plan afoot to introduce some sort of premium encrypted content that requires copy protection. Nobody wants this, leave the web app alone.

I should have been more specific. I’m using Cloudready on a former Windows laptop. It allows you to run the Chrome OS just like a Chromebook but it doesn’t support Android apps.

@TabloTV, if not done already, an announcement should be displayed when someone uses my.tablotv.com letting them know of its upcoming demise/loss of support. Not all users access these forums.
