NEW - Legacy Tablo Firmware Release (v. 2.2.58)

And how did the gen 4 roku app work under internet down conditions connected to legacy tablo and 2.2.58

You’re probably going to want to stick with the Legacy app on the Legacy device. However, there will probably come a time in the not-so-distant future where you’ll be forced to migrate your Legacy device to the Gen4 app. Maybe you want to rip the bandaid off now.

Can we fast forward thru commercials (since commercial skip is gone)?

Yes, thumbnails will be there as well

Let’s say I upgrade. But I continue to use legacy apps to connect. Will I need to do a channel scan?

You don’t have to do a channel scan. And you could open up the 4th gen app and still be good. The database on the Tablo isn’t changing.

It goes into offline mode.

I use commercial skip and already have a lifetime Guide subscription for my Legacy Tablo so the only advantage to switching to the Gen4 app would be to get the free streaming channels. But wait, I’m in Canada so we aren’t allowed access to them.

So if i want to save a buck and cancel my paid guide subscription for the legacy app I will lose a whole bunch of advanced features (for the legacy Tablo) that I really like? Including remote access.

I think you would just lose remote access and the optional commercial skip if you cancelled your subscription. You would definitely be able to do all the other subscription features, though whether you could access it through both apps or just the 4th gen app is not something I can answer.

I meant to say (for the legacy Tablo using the Legacy app). I like the legacy app for certain uses like the guide. I will pay for the subscription for one more year and see how things shake out.

Keep what you have, the FAST channels are not all that… In fact I had the FAST channels added in the guide watched a few. Nothing really that I could not live without. I think the fact that they somehow keep a server connection going even if you were not watching really slowed the performance down when watching OTA channels. So I take them off unless I want to watch a particular channel and then remove when I am done.

Commercial skip was great but I decided to forgo the subscription and that feature and put the money toward PHILO and got most of the streaming channel on that. So stay warm up in the great white north and enjoy local and network TV.

From what I’ve have read you can use both app the Legacy and new app. If you want to stream outside your house use the old app.

I have two black and blue be white Tablo but I have seen the firmware update yet one either one of the black so I am just going by what I have read.

But if I were to cancel my guide subscription I will lose access to remote connect.

I did not know that I bought the life time guide 10 years ago.

Doesn’t seem like it’s worth it to upgrade in Canada since we won’t have access to the 60+ streaming channels.

I found it worth updating. The guide, interface is better and the playback is more reliable.

Lots of Questiones:

  1. when will the update be available?

  2. Can I manually install it?

  3. Does the “new” app have support on Vizio, Apple TV and ROKU?

  4. My Tablo is a legasy box that I have had for years, how can I see if it is compatible with the new firmware?

Tablo Connect was (is) the killer feature for me. It’s what I paid my lifetime subscription for, and have been happy as a clam with the transcoded video quality and DVR features on my Quad all these years. Quality at home with the highest settings is perfect afaic. Is maintaining Tablo Connect deemed not financially viable? Is there something awesome about Gen 4 that I’m missing? The free channels offered seem to be similar to what we see on any smart tv platform.

  1. “Like all Tablo firmware updates, this is being distributed in a staged rollout over the next few weeks. A small number of customers will receive the update today, with more added to the rollout every weekday.”

  2. No.

  3. What OS is your Vizio TV running, that will determine the answer for it. Apple TV & Roku - yes.

  4. " Your Tablo is running firmware below version 2.2.10.
If you last updated your Tablo’s firmware before May 2016, your Tablo cannot be updated to version 2.2.58 and therefore is not eligible for the legacy transition. However, network-connected devices running very old firmware are eligible for a trade-in coupon offer."
