Don’t we prevent it in legacy by selecting “off” in “Viewing Data” here:
That’s viewing data. There is a lot more data then just what you are viewing.
Sure, that stops Tablo but it doesn’t stop the device you are watching Tablo on from collecting whatever it wants. That’s why I specifically mentioned the HDMI model as an exception. It’s the only one that can be connected to a dumb device or a device without internet access.
tablo knows which and how many clients you use. How often you use them, what DMA you live in what zip code you live in. And what channels you have selected. None of that is viewing data.
Can we use both the legacy and new apps on one device and switch back and forth as much as we want? The quote from the blog seems like it’s either/or
“After the firmware update, owners of legacy network-connected Tablo devices can try out the new apps and see if they like them or keep using the legacy apps to enjoy the same Tablo experience they’ve been enjoying for years.”
You can switch back and forth between apps as much as you like. The update only enables the use of the new app while the original app stays the same.
Get a UPS for the Tablo and other critical devices (modem, router). That way, it will never lose power. Even a basic UPS should be good enough to last until the generator kicks in.
I have a UPS on some devices and it keeps our network up but I haven’t spent the money to add one to the Tablo just yet. I’d like to get something a little more substantial then a traditional UPS.
We use this (in case of power loss)
That’s closer to what I’m looking at.
Amazon has some for around $45-$50. They are basic 350W, but more than enough for a Tablo and maybe a few other TV connected devices, and the TV itself.

I use a Belkin 12v UPS (BU3DC001) for my Tablo Quad. You can get them used on eBay for a reasonable price: BU3DC001 for sale | eBay
I use the 12v UPS in place of the power adapter.
Tablo Tv, are you planning a version of the 4th generation for Canadian in the future? At the moment most of the model available in Canada are out of stock. I am afraid that in the near future there will be no model available here. Note that this 2 tuners doesn’t interest me, I would need a 4 tuners.
Yes. I have both on a single network - they run on different apps. Be certain to name your Tablo devices to see which is which when first opening and connecting to your Tablo. You can cause trouble with your legacy model if you try to access it through the new software.
@TabloTV The Tablo Gen4 isn’t working on my Fire TV. The Fire TV app doesn’t see the new Tablo at all. The QR code tells me to load the app on my phone. I already have the app on my phone. The app acknowledges and sees the new Tablo. I deleted and reinstalled the app on my phone. This did not resolve the issue. I deleted and reinstalled the app on the Fire device. This did not resolve the issue. I deleted the app from both my phone and the Fire device, reinstalled the app on the Fire device, scanned the QR code, reinstalled the app on my phone, signed back in to my Tablo account, and STILL nothing on the Fire device. This is an endless cycle. The app on my Chromecast with Google TV won’t acknowledge the attached external hard drive. Everything else seems to be fine. It only shows the internal hard drive. The Roku app also won’t acknowledge my external hard drive, but everything else appears to be functioning.
@MonkeyMom - Sorry you’re running into this. Have you verified that the Tablo is on the same network as the Fire TV?
Just noticed the Antenna Amplification setting (on/off) in MonkeyMom’s screenshot. This will probably help with troubleshooting signal problems.
@TabloTV do you think this setting will make it to legacy units?
That’s a hardware configuration. Not possible with legacy units
@TabloTV Yes all my devices are on one network. Same network it was working fine on. It functioned fine in the Beta app.
And, as I stated in my post, the app is working on both Chromecast with Google TV (which doesn’t see the attached hard drive) and Roku (which also doesn’t see the attached hard drive).
Wouldn’t this have to be software in a legacy device? If there would be ant benefit… why didnt they do it before?
Whay if you already have an amp or pre-amp? Does it make sure i don’t screw things up for myself?
Some of the new ones come with an antenna, is this for those?
