I think you said it best…
And from what I’ve been reading, not everyone has signed up for the lifetime plan…

As I said if they are happy they are not looking for more functionality. And if you cancel the subscription you get less functionality even with the new firmware. Many people use remote connect. That goes away without a subscription.
Why are you so sure that all of these features would disappear with the new firmware update?
Actually, some of that was from the new organization early on.
So, it’s confusing for now, mixed messaging.
I think once it actually exists, we’ll be able to find out the truth, but maybe not before then.
I wonder how much of that was comparing old and new products versus rewriting code for the old. Not to mention the number of things you guys have seen them say is coming that never made it!
A legacy user knows that the remote connect feature is connected to having a subscription and not all legacy apps support remote connect. So would cancelling a legacy subscription still allow a legacy app to remote connect.
The only statement I’ve seen from tablo is that they are looking into finding a way to allow gen 4 app to schedule and manage recordings remotely. But not view recordings.
Since the messaging has been historically inconsistent, I still say the “best way” is to wait and see what is delivered.
There actually a lot of “mess” when trying to do anything “old to new”. It’s a lot more complicated than most people realize. There’s enough “facts” out there to safely make that conclusion.
We are the reason Tablo is here today, we bought in early and now we have to wait to be brought up to date.
This sucks, I can not download the Tizen legacy version on my new TV, tried the new app and does not find it.
Tablo, just make a firmware update that at least accepts the new app with the same functionality is fine for now.
Thanks to everyone who suggested rebooting the router!
That made perfect sense once I read it. Before I read it I was so fixated on the Roku and the Tablo that nothing else seemed to matter!
My months long issue of repeated GOPs is gone! My days long issues with recording the Olympics are gone!
It was almost like magic!
@TabloTV - Any news when the legacy Tablo firmware upgrade enabling Gen4 features will be available?
My question is, why do you want it?
All of the 4th Gen apps appear to have multiple problems and there have been multiple complaints viewing and recording the FAST channels (if they are even available on legacy units), so other than the free guide, why do you want to switch to the 4th gen apps?
I have 2 Tablos, one is very lightly used and I could use it to kick the tires.
Run a direct line from antenna to one TV for emergency and weather-related broadcasts.
It’s still on our radar.
Unfortunately, we don’t have an ETA. That being said we’ll certainly update this community when it becomes available.
Take your time…knock on wood my 2 tuner legacy model is working perfectly and would like to keep it that way.
My biggest concern with the Legacy Tablo is the ability to continue connecting to it through my Roku as we move forward…as has been said, the app store no longer contains the legacy app, and if something happens causing me to need to replace my Roku…will I still be able to connect to it? As I understand it, with the next firmware update, that’ll enable the new app to connect to the legacy hardware, right? The other thing that I’m wanting to ensure, is that I still have the ability to export my recordings to filesystem…that’s something I utilize daily.
Do you happen to have multiple Roku in your home? My experience is that the apps seem to be connected to your “account” rather than the device and changes synchronize. My thinking is that if the legacy app exists on any of your Roku devices, a new box would synch with it most likely.
Still, if true (about “new Tablo company” killing off OG Tablo entirely), not good.
Yes, I have multiple…good to know it won’t go anywhere then
can you link to discussion on this? I haven’t heard/seen anything on that topic
