Based on that alone. Again, I said, “if true”.
IMO, I think Tablo will kill off the OG and Legacy app/firmware, not viable devices. The company will likely, at some point, force a mandatory migration of these devices to the latest app/firmware to consolidate their resources. Hopefully that occurs later when better features are available rather than sooner, in the current state. I don’t want to go through the pain of untested and non-working features with my older Tablo.
Unknown, right? I started working on my “escape plan” when Tablo died and rose as a completely different person. Still, I sort of like my “lifetime” OG Tablo devices, while still working. While I might not ever hire a person with “old Nuvyyo” on their resume… I think Scripps folks I’ll block at the gate.
Hmmm…I was away from the community for awhile and didn’t keep up with what was happening…didn’t know they were sold, etc…didn’t realize I needed an exit strategy considering how much I rely on my Tablo…I might need to start looking at alternatives so that if things go ‘south’, I know where I’m heading.
I’ve always been waiting for someone to write a tablo front end that makes tablo tuners look and work like hdhomerun tuners do for plex.
Possible, but you’d be writing for the ever dying off old OG Tablo users. A tiny market when it was strong, now becoming… extinct. Lot of work. I might do something “crappy” for myself, but nothing easily used by others, you know? And honestly, at that point, you’re better off basing “whatever” you do on something more sustainable (non-Tablo). That way, it won’t be so much time wasted.
Something like this? Tablo on Plex (not Tablo Channel)
Since I have both a Legacy and a Gen 4, I got concerned about not having a legacy app, So I went and checked. When I searched for Tablo, both apps showed up, so it’s not gone yet.
I don’t know how they would fairly handle killing of legacy accounts.. e.g. - I just renewed for a full year + commercial skip. It wouldn’t seem fair by any definition to take my $69.00 and then turn off what I paid for in good faith. The only fair thing would be a one year warning where an account paid today would run for a year and then could NOT be renewed. At least this way a business has been fair to honor their terms while taking your money. I love my legacy and hope to keep it for a bit longer. Rarely down.
Will we lose any legacy features? I’d still like to be able to watch remotely, watch without Internet, use a browser (on network), and export programs as files. Will these things go away with the OG Legacy migration to the new firmware?
Thanks. This post sounded nebulous and didn’t seem to provide enough information to make a decision whether or not to move forward, when the time comes, with the optional OG → Gen4 firmware upgrade. We posed the questions to get clarity on how the older device will work with the newest firmware and features.
We’ve used our OG Tablo every day for almost 10 years and about the past 9 years have been mostly trouble-free aside from one big Guide issue a year or two ago. We’d be willing to upgrade if OG services need to be deprecated and shut down. But we’d like more of the detail needed to make this decision.
