Introducing: Plex Channel for TabloTV

Add me to the crowd of excited users for Plex support.  I don’t have a Roku and wasn’t planning on getting one as I use a Popcorn Hour to as our media player and use the Plex app within it.

If you need someone to help beta test it I am here!  I have just set up the quad tuner and am having a pretty good time.

My biggest concern will be having to use the tablet app and cast to Chromecast and using the tablet to control the playback. My family isn’t going to be thrilled with that solution.

Using a remote control and play back through the Popcorn Hour/Plex app would be a huge user experience improvement.

Awesome! I didn’t know there was a Plex app for PCH. Def want you to test that out. We’re almost there.

@PiX64 - Anything I can do to help, just let me know. This won’t be our daily driver until I can work out a few issues including the UX experience for my family, so we can do anything you want to the Tablo

I also just realized that you can only cast from an Android tablet - which is a MAJOR pain point here. 2 iPad’s, 4 Android phones, 1 Nexus 7 :(

I’m currently rewriting live TV to use the new API and very close to done!

@mtuckman What are you casting to?  Do you have Roku’s Google TV’s, Apple TV?

Looking for a few more beta testers.  Please send me a PM and ill respond with my email.

Love to help beta test… long time Plex & Roku 3 user.  How do I send a PM?  Don’t see it here…

@Flatulator - Just click on the user’s name and in the next screen up in the top right hand corner you can send a PM.

Tried and don’t see it - it looks like I’m not signed in when I click on his name, the page says “sign in or register”.  I try to sign in and it doesn’t change…

I use Plex with my Roku and Tablo.  I’m not sure why you would run the Tablo App through Plex when you can run both through Roku.  How does combining them help?  I’m just wondering.

@DoveMan Although it will work on the Roku, I think it is more designed to bridge to unsupported devices.  Think Windows Phone, Surface RT, Google TV, Old Roku box, etc.

@jbanks25 Thanks

Don’t forget streaming recording and LiveTV while away from home without the need to “sync” with tablo

@doveman For me it would allow me to watch tablo on phones not just tablets. Plus the sharing/remote watching would be way easier than the pairing that has to be done know. Also as of right now remote rokus can not watch a tuner as pairing only works with web and ios/android. Then my final fingers cross outcome is the oppisite of that to be able to tune remote tuners in ( i have some on both coasts) and there is no way for me to pair (unless via vpn) to it never mind getting it on my tv via roku.

@crichardso Very nice.  Thanks for the good info.

@jbanks25 I was looking for a way to cast to a Chromecast - I have a number of these in our house and even use it when traveling.  Limited to casting from only an Android tablet is a pain as I mentioned as I only have the 1 Nexus 7, but a number of other devices.

In the end I have to find a way to make this more user friendly for my wife before this can become our daily driver. Plex integration would get me there, otherwise I guess I may have to look into a Roku 3.

There has to be a way of controlling playback, etc, via a remote control or this won’t be adopted in my home.

Plex casts to Chromecast… So Plex running Tablo channel will allow you to any connected device that runs Plex including Chromecast…

It works! Very cool - especially on the web app.

Hey @PiX64 I’m hoping that you can answer a question about the Plex app for me. I am hoping to have a Tablo setup soon, however I will be keeping the Tablo at a remote location because of poor (nonexistent) OTA signal at my house. With that in mind, does the Plex app support remote playback of recorded media and live TV via Tablo Connect?

Yes it does.
