Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.2.0)

I agree with the empty folder challenge. It makes us have to scan each folder, every time, to see if it shows anything new. A folder should only appear if there is a show in there. Thanks!!

I’m onboard with a buyback, but it will never happen, they would go bankrupt. I’ve been thru similar experiences and once I watch my shows off this POS, I’m looking into a HomerunHD. I’d rather pay $35 a year for a program guide than deal with this junk constantly. They’ve had plenty of time to get this thing working and stable.

Yeah, I dropped all the FAST channels because of the same issue. I don’t want that crap shoved in my face. There were a couple channels that look interesting too, but not with the way Tablo pushes it.

Worked fine last night, now this morning it’s back to constant flipping between offline and online mode. Guide completely disappears. If you can manage to select a channel it only plays for a minute or two before flipping back to the guide. Deleting and reinstalling the app did not help.

Or at least give you the option to choose. On my Android phone I can quickly select which I want displayed.

There was a while, about a year ago, when the Tablo ONLY displayed programs with recordings. This was a problem if you wanted to delete, or make other programing changes to a show that currently had no recordings. At least… this was the case on Roku devices.

I must be one lucky SOB… Mine works perfectly southwest 45 miles from the Chicago towers with trees and houses between us and the towers, using a Samsung TV, Roku Streaming Stick 4K, Winegard Elite Outdoor antenna, Tablo 4th Gen, Sandisk 2T portable SSD, T-Mobile wireless Internet, no mesh/extenders, and only using WI-FI. I’m no tech guy either but feel sorry for everyone with issues. There are so many to blame for issues from TVs, ROKU updates, Gracenotes, etc, etc, etc, etc. I still love my Tablo! Sorry…

@Kendallcounty you are not alone. I have had very few issues with mine and I’m sure many other users are not experiencing a lot of problems as well. It’s just we don’t hear from them.

@exwxman95 That is very true. There are so many variables that can be the cause but Tablo takes all the blame. I praise them for this innovation that has helped me save thousands of dollars each year and allows me to watch shows I’m not available to watch live.

Agreed. I have been very happy with my Tablo. I won’t claim it is flawless, but I have had very few problems. Especially considering the price, it is a great little box.

I do not doubt those that have had genuine problems, and their frustrations are real, but I have not experienced it.

To be fair, I should mention that my Tablo died very suddenly a few weeks back. I was amazed how much I missed it. To their credit, Tablo replaced it within a few days, no questions asked. It only took me about 30 minutes to set up and program the new one.

@Chazbury - how is your Tablo connected to the network? Wifi or Ethernet? Also, what speed do you get when you run a speed test from the Roku?

Ethernet. When I run check connection on Roku I get at lest 80-90 Mbps. I do not see it as a network issue as all of my other streaming apps (Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video) almost always run smooth.

That’s about same as I get since switching to Ethernet.
Used to get 40-45 Mbps when I was using WIFI.

The Offline update triggered 2 problems for 4th Gen, 4 Tuner Tablos on Roku Ultra.
(Connected: 2 Tablos of this same model; both are affected.)

Problem began Tuesday, Sept 2.

Summary:
After both units received the new Offline update, both started spontaneously crashing to Tablo library page while viewing recordings.
Both also intermittently start an “Offline” followed promptly by “Online” as a repeating loop, preventing Tablo functions.

More detail:

  1. As reported above by MichelB, brad123, mdavis0424, KGBnut, and Chazbury, while viewing a recorded program, Tablo spontaneously crashes to guide (in my case, Library page from which I launched the recordings).

  2. As its own, separate, new error:
Both Tablos now intermittently begin a loop of Offline, promptly followed by switching back to Online again. Loop persists, making other functions not feasible. Constant flipping, as mdavis0424, describes. I then go back to Roku Home, then relaunch Tablo app to recover.

No other Roku apps are affected. Watch Netflix for hours; no fails. No network interruptions; other devices confirm active internet, throughout.

Equipment:

Cat 6 ethernet supports everything: TV, AVR, Roku, and Tablo DVRs.
Roku Ultra model: 4800X. (OS 14.6.4)
Both Tablos are 4th Gen, 4 Tuner, model TF1284B-01-CN.
Tablo app is: 1.2.0-734366

Actions performed:
uninstalled and reinstalled Tablo app at Roku Ultra.
button rebooted each Tablo.
daily reboot my router.
daily reboot/power off the home theater TV, AVR, Roku.

ISP is my metro’s rock solid USI Fiber, 550 Mbps down/up, 1 ms jitter.

Was thrilled when Tablo team promptly found and fixed its program guide bug, which also affected me. Everything was solid again for weeks after that, till now.

I am asking Tablo team to please acknowledge this new issue triggered by its new Offline update that affects these named customers above, and me, as we each document here.

We’ve been investigating reports of Offline Mode switching on and off, and customers being kicked back into the Guide.

From what we can determine, this is linked to an issue with a Roku update that was released around the same time.

Restarting your Roku (via Settings > System > Power > System Restart) should help.

If it doesn’t, please let us know.

3rd Day and 3rd Request for the same issue. This support person “Brittany” keeps telling me she/he has done “processes” on my device, and it should be fixed. IT IS NOT FIXED!!!

Used it last evening and it was fine. Exit out … turn TV off for the night. Get up this morning … turn my TV on and open up the Tablo device this morning … back to the same issues. Blank Guide every morning when I open Tablo in the morning. Save & Continue from Channel Lineup and Guide may come back. Then start watching Live TV and the “continuously exit back to the guide” begins. It still records but can’t watch the recordings because it will exit out of that. It will even go into offline mode while using the device - all by itself.

Your UPDATES have rendered my device as useless!! I’m tired of being lied to from some support person (Brittany if that’s a real name) that she / he solved the issue only to reoccur the next morning.

Mine is doing the same and Tablo Support says they fixed it and the next morning back to the same thing.

I can say, that in my case, doing a full power-cycle seems to have solved these problems. I disconnected the Roku devices from power for a full 60 seconds, and then plugged them back in. (I have about six devices, so I literally ran around the house and unplugged them all. By then 60 seconds had passed and I did another lap and plugged them back in.)

I will admit, that I haven’t thoroughly tested all of my devices, but the three that I use the most all seem to be working correctly now.

Just one users experience.

If you haven’t already, try restarting your Roku, as mentioned above: Settings > System > Power > System Restart.

It may be related to a Roku update that was released around the same time.

It may help.

Mine is the same way - works fine in the evening but does not work in the morning. Not sure why time of day should make a difference?

Does NOT help!!

I have tried all the usual supposed remedies. Restart the Tablo Device. Remove the Tablo App - System Restart on my Roku … Re Add the Tablo App. Also, tried to just remove and readd the Tablo App which sometimes makes it worse. None of that has resolved this issue since your Update.

Your Support person by the name of Brittany has performed “processes” on my device for 2 days now. Tells me it should be fixed. For that day … it seems to work. Overnight … first thing in the morning when trying to watch TV via Tablo it all starts again.
