Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.2.0)

Hi folks -

Update Sept 5th 2025 10:30 a.m. ET

We’ve been investigating reports of Offline Mode switching on and off, and customers being kicked back into the Guide.

From what we can determine, this is linked to an issue with a Roku update that was released around the same time.

Restarting your Roku (via Settings > System > Power > System Restart) should help.

If it doesn’t, please let us know.

An update to the 4th Generation Tablo app for Roku is now available, which includes the new Offline Mode.

You should see the update shortly, but if you’d like to get it right away, navigate to the Tablo app on your Roku device’s home screen and hit the star button (*) on your Roku remote. Then select ‘Check for Updates’.

Here’s what you can expect:

Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 1.2.0)

  • Adds Offline Mode
  • Fix for issue where the All view in Library was not displaying scheduled recordings
  • Bug fixes & performance improvements

About Offline Mode
Offline Mode has been added as part of a commitment to make Tablo features more robust for all users.

With Offline Mode, if you have power and your home Wi-Fi router can provide an active local network connection (LAN) between your Tablo and your streaming devices or smart TVs, you can still access live local broadcasts and previously recorded programming.

When Tablo detects it doesn’t have an active connection to the internet or our servers, you’ll see a notification in your Tablo app that Offline Mode is required. There is no way to trigger this manually.

When you enter Offline Mode, you’ll see a notification banner at the top of your screen and some features will be unavailable.

You can read more about Offline Mode and how it works on the Knowledge Base.

Roku model 4660 tablo app 1.2.0-734366

My test case has always been to go to Shows/CBS and “record all” 60 minutes and Big brother. I used the 1.2.0 roku app to perform “record all”

There are no 60 minutes episodes in the next 2 weeks.

But for Big Brother it is no different then before the fix.

Library/coming soon has 6 episodes marked to record.

Library/All has the Big brother icon

But when you click on it “Scheduled” says “No Scheduled Airings” And “Upcoming Airings” says “No Upcomig Airings”

Thanks for pushing it out, but to be honest, I preferred to see ONLY the tiles for programs that HAVE recordings. It makes it much easier to see at a glance what recorded shows I can watch.

Can I recommend… “ALL” displays everything whether or not there are current recordings. But, “TV SHOWS” displays only show programs that have recordings available to watch?

When you had a similar set up, several updates ago, my wife and I would get very excited when a tile appeared and thought “Oh, good! We have a new episode of …” I know it tells you that in the text below the tiles, but it is not as obvious, and the text is small enough that it is hard to read for these old eyes.

It seems that users went through this 2 years ago. And wanted to know why there isn’t a menu item called Scheduled and another on called Recordings like the legacy apps. But insanity prevailed.

Does anybody actually have have 5 TB or more of recorded programming. I have a 5 TB drive and when I get over 2 TB, this thing slows to a crawl and recently it started to crash when I would start to play a program with about 300 episodes. I couldn’t watch any of them until I deleted all but 20 episodes of a couple different programs. Why do they state that you can use up to an 8 TB drive when Tablo or their servers can’t handle a program with more than about 50 episodes. I’m thinking about going to Channels DVR.

Since this update, the Roku app is constantly crashing to the Tablo home screen almost immediately after trying to watch any channel. Power cycled the Roku stick and Tablo. I put in a ticket but all I get is some automated reply that’s not my issue.

Hello @brad123 - sorry you’re seeing this issue. Would you provide the Roku model number?

Would you clear your device cache, restart your router, restart your Tablo, then restart your streaming device?

Tablo TV App Cache - How and When to Clear It – Tablo

Hi @brad123 ,

We’ve escalated your ticket.

As per @wysiwyggin 's question, would you fill us in on:

  • The make and model of your Roku.
  • What OS is your Roku is running.
  • Whether your Tablo has Audio Compatibility Mode on or off.

Reinstalling the app to clear the cache may have fixed it. I’ll reply back after I use it a few more times.

Started last night, a couple of times the Tablo jumped back to the guide. We could reselect the channel and it would work for a while but then back to the guide. Now this morning it’s less than a minute before it flips back to the guide. I reset and power cycled the Tablo, reset and power cycled the Roku but problem persists. Affects both antenna and streaming channels. If I select a program using Shows instead of guide it plays for less than a minute and then I get an error “Oops… Collection Empty There are no titles scheduled within this collection”.

Next steps for troubleshooting?

I have the exact same issue which started with yesterday’s update. A saved library program will play for a couple of minutes but then the Tablo crashes and goes back to the guide page.

Hello @mdavis0424 and welcome to the community. Please try restarting your router, Tablo device, and power cycle your streaming device, in this order, to see if this helps.

What streaming device are you using?

Seems to be OK now, so whatever it was it fixed itself. After the message I sent earlier it started to pop up the offline mode screen, but as soon as you went to offline mode it said it had reconnected to Tablo servers and had to switch back to online. This went back and forth for a while. No problem streaming other services, so must have been an issue with Tablo servers.

It could have been. You might also consider reviewing your network and devices to ensure you’re getting the best possible speed from your network router to the Tablo and from the Tablo to your streaming device(s).

Older devices may not have the specs needed to run the Tablo app.

It’s recommended to connect the Tablo to your router with a Cat5e or newer Ethernet cable (not wifi). You can use wifi for your streaming device(s), just make sure they have a strong signal/connection to the network.

Hi @lowman ,

What version of the Roku OS are you using?

Given that you’re posting here, the version of the Tablo ppp you’re using for Roku is 1.2.0, correct?

Does this happen with other Tablo apps beyond Roku?

@MichelB ,

Uninstalling and reinstalling the app may resolve the problem.

If not,

Have you run into a specific error message during these crashes? If you could take a video, would you be willing to share it with Tablo Support?

I have noticed this, too. This morning, when trying to watch the local news, it would play for a minute or so, then stop and go back to the guide. It did this a couple of times. I did find that if I tell it to record that channel, and then immediately select it from the library, it would play through without problems.

As a separate issue, on a different TV, I occasionally get the “Offline Mode Required” message, even though other TVs are playing just fine. Am I correct in assuming that the check for the presence of internet connectivity happens at the streaming device, not the Roku “puck?”

Both of these are happening on TVs that are at the periphery of my WiFi, so they don’t get the best signal, but it is usually more than good enough.

I was stupid enough to use this release for a channel scan and saved the results with no additions or deletions.

It now drops the At the Movies channel at the top of my Live channel list. I love deleting these unwanted channels. Pretty soon I will have no FAST channels.

I have been experiencing same issue with Tablo 1.2 4th generation jumping back to Live TV Grid while watching live TV on both my Roku Sticks.

Dear Tablo-

This evening my spouse declared the Tablo must go! They indicated the reliability of the unit had driven them to the breaking point.

From my perspective it seems the Tablo has failed to meet a basic standard for a product sold to the public, it does not work as advertised.

So Tablo, it is your move… can you deliver a working product? How about a buy back program?

Sincerely,
WHAT_NOW
