I bought my Tablo 4 without reading the small print { Apple TV app coming soon} and have it running through a Roku Ultra. It has been very buggy. Sometimes there is no channel guide or recordings don’t show or just nothing happens after several button pushes. Never consistent . I switched to my Firestick 4K that we use when we travel and now everything works perfectly. Who knows!
New Roku Update did nothing for me, Start to stream app immediately Crashes
Biggest waste of money ever
Roku App version .8.401-734366
Roku Model 4620x
Roku OS 12.5.5
Tablo firmware 2.2.28
App version .8 Build 401
Roku os 12.5.5 installed on my main Roku on 01/04. I discovered the upgrade a few days ago and ran my Mega test. The Mega test records 2 ota movies and 2 FAST movies at the same time while simultaniously playing 6 recorded movies on 6 upgraded Roku players. Ran it multiple times. The tests were flawless.
It appears that the Roku os upgrade cleared up a problem with the interface between the Tablo Roku app and the Roku os. The Tablo app must have been making a system call to a malfunctioning Roku fumction.
I just bought a Tablo 4th Gen and just hooked it up tonight and I’m having this issue also. The app works on my Roku for about 5 minutes, then crashes.
I have the Tablo TV app version 0.8 build 401-734366
Tablo firmware 2.2.48
Roku TV TCL model 43S403
Hardware ID 7126X
Roku software version 12.5.0 build 4176-30
It would be great if you can fix this issue, as I just purchased the Tablo and it is completely unusable on my TV!
I’m going to have to return my device if they can’t fix this in the next week.
The two TVs I have are both Roku’s and the same model. They work flawlessly with every other app I have. So I’m not going to replace two TVs in hopes that the Tablo App will work with them.
Thank you.
You don’t have the latest Roku software and need to upgrade to 12.5.5. That upgrade has solved a lot of problems. People were blaming Tablo but the problem was with Roku. Tablo does have some problems that they should be able to fix now that this Roku issue is fixed.

I’m having the same experience. Tablo on Roku TV crashes out of Live TV after a few minutes of clear viewing - returning to the Roku Home Screen. I have connected by both Ethernet or Wi-Fi with no difference. Reset/rebooted Tablo and router multiple times. I have not connected a HD yet but my main priority is getting OTA TV to a bedroom that doesn’t receive an antenna signal. Tablo has been unusable for OTA Live TV - which is what I bought it for (Streaming channels work fine). I’m considering returning this, but I’m desperate for it to work, as my old AirTV is not always reliable. So far I can only rely on the Tablo to fail every time.
My Roku/Tablo specs:
Roku model: C167X (TCL Roku TV)
Roku OS: 12.5.0
Application version: 0.8.401-734366
Tablo firmware: 2.2.48
My Roku OS won’t update to 12.5.5 . I will keep checking back. I’m feeling hopeful that this could be the answer.
After updating my Roku Ultra 4802X yesterday to 12.5.5 firmware. I did have one “Shutdown to Roku Home Screen” event but that was after using the Tablo App about 5 hours. So this problem appears to not be completely gone yet, but it’s certainly not happening as much as before the firmware update.
I also did not see the “Tablo Video Freezes and reboots Roku” problem. That was happening a few times a day before the Firmware update and now it has not happen again since the update. So that’s good news.
The other issue that still happens (that others have reported too) is when watching a channel for an extended period and going back to the Live Guide nothing happens when selecting a new channel in the guide. I have to get out of the Tablo App and then restart it and everything works again.
So the Tablo Software team has a few more things to fix in future updates to the App.
Mine still crashes to homescreen sometimes with the 12.5.5 update on the Roku Ultra 4800x, however less than it used to. A workaround for me that works all the time is to pause the video for about 10-15 seconds when watching live tv and then continue watching. Never crashes then.
I’m not getting the option to upgrade to 12.5.5 yet. So I have to wait for Roku to offer that option for my TV, if they ever do?
This sounds like a Tablo issue to me, especially since every other app works perfectly fine. Here are the apps I have installed, just to name a few:
Spectrum TV (which I’m trying to get rid of due to cost)
Netflix
Prime Video
Crackle
Tubi TV
Fubo TV
Max
And about 10 or so others that all work flawlessly.
I’m saying while a 2nd gen. Tablo without a subscription certainly lacks features of a 4th gen. Tablo, it might be better than the Aluratek device you also mentioned. For whatever it’s worth, I’ve used 1st and 2nd gen. Tablo DVRs without a subscription for years myself. I can’t find many details on the Aluratek’s EPG (electronic program guide) for a proper comparison though.
The Tablo app uses some Roku features most other Roku apps don’t use. Most of the time a solution to a problem with 1 app can be made within the app, however, sometimes there’s a bug in whichever platform the app is running on that has to be fixed. Software updates that are for devices from popular brands, owned by so many people, are often “rolled out” gradually over a few weeks. So when first released, the update is not made immediately available to every model which will receive it (for two reasons: reducing load on the servers that an update is downloaded from and also there might be a bug for some models that would need to be addressed).
Now I see what folks have been complaining about. I did not have problems with the gen 4 Tablo app on my Roku ultra 4670 until after I updated from 12.5.0 to 12.5.5. Now the Tablo app crashes after watching live TV for about five minutes.
Update: Removing and reinstalling the Tablo app on the Roku solved the problem.
Standard practice has to be to do a system restart, not just turn it off and back on but a full system restart after a software update.
Just to repeat, after the 12.5.5 update, one Roku’s Tablo app did not work until I removed it, rebooted the Roku, then reinstalled it. Running fine since.
Doing step by step experiments are what helps the most. I would like to see someone just do the system restart alone to see if that works without going thru the process of removing the Tablo app from the Roku and reinstalling it.
Completely understood. Didn’t mean to jump the gun on that, just figured they’d already tried a reboot or unplugging.
The Roku does its own reboot after the update, but the app didn’t work. I rebooted after that and it didn’t help. The reinstall was going step by step for me, and others should definitely do things in order of simplicity. Thank you for making sure they try other things first.
Many times the reboot doesn’t work depending on the entry pont to the os for the reboot. System restart or removing the power is guaranteed to take it to the very beginning of the os where it can do a proper cleanup before entering the user interface.
I reported earlier that my Roku 4800X received 12.5.5 late last week. That didn’t solve my app crash problem after 10 or so minutes when watching live TV. The only workaround that appears to be reliable for me is to go live for 30 seconds, then rewind back 30 seconds and play from there.
Has it been flawless since then or do you have to do the pause every time? Every clue helps.
The pause needs to be done every time.
