There are many reasons people using a Tablo may have reception issues that have NOTHING to do with the Tablo. The following link is a good explanation for those of you having issues you want to blame on the Tablo:

Good information and an interesting read.

I do think that there are some issues with the Tablo 4th gen and reception. Reception was “decent” when I plugged it into where my PVR was. A few pops and skips here or there, but nothing out of the ordinary. When the second 2.2.48 update came through, I was getting a max of 2/3 of a recording. This has caused me to have to move the entire setup and purchase a new antenna and amplifier.

I’d mentioned before that with Tablo’s amplification set to ON, reception was great but there were buffering issues. Set to OFF, reception was spotty but no buffering issues.

It was very strange since I had two PVRs and an TV on a splitter, but the Tablo was unusable directly off the antenna. (Never tried it with the splitter to see if that helped since I no longer have those two PVRs.)

Have had a couple of events using Roku (Roku 4801RW, 12.5.5 OS version, Tablo app 0.8.401) where during transitions the new Tablo has gotten “stuck” (circling cursor). Not during any playback, live or DVR, just when transitioning between choosing a DVR recording to play and clicking on “play episode”, or similar state transitions. Restarting the Roku has cleared the problem. The Roku app seems to lose touch with the Tablo on these occasions.

Not a showstopper since nothing was playing and doesn’t happen a lot, just annoying. I’m hoping that a fix for this sort of Roku app problem is “coming soon”. I’ve settled on paying for Youtube TV to be able to use the Apple TV streaming boxes most of the time, and using the Roku just for the new Tablo.

Is your Roku wired or wireless.

If it’s wireless, when you restart, that could change the wireless negotiations.

Just a thought.

Not a bad primer for folks. I always recommend sites like tvfool, antennaweb, … to help you understand what equipment you may need (antenna type/size/height/…).

Also remember that OVER amplifying a signal is just as bad as a signal that is too weak.

That’s a very good reminder.

It was a nightmare to find the right combination!

With all the negative postings here I would like to throw a bit of sunshine into the mix. I have a fourth GEN, Tablo, and a Roku ultra and after one re-boot of the Tablo all has been working for over a week with no glitches. This is my line-up:

RUKU ULTRA
model 4670X
App ver. 0.8.401-734366
O/S 12.5.5

TABLO
Firmware 2.2.48

Auto updates are turned on and so far it’s working fine. If there are any changes I’ll report back later. I know a lot of us here in this community are having problems but hopefully they will be resolved soon.

My Roku/Tablo setup plays recordings just fine. The only problem we had recently was a recording from one of my weaker OTA channels we could see was having reception issues. Occasional blockyness and occasional error messages saying it could not trans code the audio (or something like that). We could just FF it a click or two and continue on. Was able to watch the whole hour long program. However it still occasionally makes us exit Tablo and restart it in order to delete watched recordings.

We switched to using the FireTV 4K Max stick now and so far it’s been smooth sailing.

I get green, yellow & red dots

Still having same issues as everyone else. Any tablo reps here that can give us an eta as to when we are going to get some relief in the form of firmware, software, or roku app update?

Hi folks -

Quick update… We’ve been doing some intensive testing to investigate this issue.

We believe we’ve found the source of the issue and have reported our findings to Roku.

We are working on an app update with a workaround until Roku can provide an update with a long-term fix. We’ll provide additional details when it’s ready.

Good news but can you give a rough eta?

Days? Weeks? Months?

Many seem to be frustrated and on the verge of returning their tablos, so if you could communicate this you might save some returns and earn some good will with the community.

How about a fix for Fire TV sticks too!

The update is being submitted today. ETA for publication is next week.

@TabloTV THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for the update and the list of affected models.

First off, if @TabloTV @TabloForumAdmin or @TabloSupport could please fix the link that’s in your support article above for “affected Roku models”, it would help with others looking for a quick fix. The link does not work and leads to a 404 error.

Secondly, I’m sure you realize the list isn’t full, but if you’re looking at other models to check, the Roku Express+ (3910rw) is also affected.

I look forward to how this app update and Roku’s resolution to the overall problem help in the future. (I’m going to cross my fingers that the green background is fixed in one of these two updates.)

Fixed. It just linked to the list below of the most affected models.

As you noted, other models may also be affected but folks with the types of Rokus on that list are having a particularly bad time.

Different issue but it’s also something we’ve brought to Roku’s attention. Hopefully they’ll have a fix for that as well.

Thank you for the quick fix on the link.

I don’t use that stick for much other than testing, but it would be nice if it didn’t have that of behavior.

Appreciate the updates today. Please, share those as often as you’re able – too often we feel left in the dark here and it’s hard to maintain hope.
