Recap - Antenna TV Tips: Improve Your OTA Setup

Television stations broadcast programming from towers in your area. Under normal atmospheric conditions and with clear line-of-sight, those TV signals travel via radio waves up to 70 miles away. The type of TV antenna you need depends on your distance from local broadcast towers. You can use this tool on the Tablo website to find out where the broadcast towers are in relation to your home: TV Antennas & Over-the-Air Reception - Tablo TV

Indoor TV antennas work best for those living in urban areas, 35 miles or less from local broadcast towers. Choosing where to put your TV antenna is equally important. Pick a spot facing the direction of your local broadcast towers. Place the antenna as high as possible. Avoid obstructions. If you think your TV antenna and its placement are correct but are still experiencing problems like breakups in video or audio, trouble playing or recording over-the-air programs, or just picking up a specific channel during a scan, you may need to adjust the placement of your TV antenna or upgrade to a larger, more powerful model. https://support.tablotv.com/hc/en-us/articles/210429406-Troubleshooting-TV-Antenna-Reception-Issues
But bigger isn’t always better. Your Tablo can actually get too strong of a signal from your TV antenna if you live very close to the local broadcast towers or are already using an amplified TV antenna. In some areas like Philadelphia, Boston and Pittsburgh, one or more popular channels are broadcast on a different frequency (VHF) that smaller ‘flat’ indoor antennas can struggle to pick up. If reception is fine for a handful of channels on your TV but not your Tablo, the digital cliff could be at play. Unlike your single-tuner television, your Tablo splits your TV antenna’s signal across multiple tuners (either two or four). If you change anything with your antenna setup, conduct a new channel scan.
