Love Battlebots on Science is Amazing!
I think it’s great that Tablo continues to pursue and add additional streaming channels to its lineup, even if they can’t always be recorded due to licensing. It would be helpful if there was an indicator (like an icon or something) on channels that have recording restrictions just so users know. My end goal with Tablo for me and my elderly mother would be to have a stable interface very similar to Roku’s “Live TV” app (channel) with over the air (OTA) channels and streaming channels all in the same interface and with ALL channels (including streaming ones) having easy to remember visible channel numbers in addition to the (sometimes cryptic) channel name and logo.
Additional wish list items for me include:
- Being able to sort by channel number or name, and/or navigate channels within categories (News, Sports, Reality, etc) would be huge plus.
- Being able to add a URL of a known streaming IPTV channel, a name, and channel number and then having that appear as an available streaming channel would be a huge plus as well. I would love to be able to add an IPTV channel of 1 or more universities, local city or town, and other worldwide news sources, even if a channel guide wasn’t available for them. I would love just to have them all in the same interface.
All the new movie channels, are restricted so they are worthless to me since I want to record them to watch later
Some beneficial icons on the left-most column of the Guide would be a LOCK for locked channels and a HEART for a favorite channel. However, it doesn’t look like there’s enough room for anything more if font size is an issue.
Good suggestion for icons! In the Tablo guide on Roku, it looks like there is space next to the channel logo in the Channels column. I see a good inch or so of space before channels with numbers on them. Alternatively, if an image is not able to fit, perhaps a small colored shape with do. A legend of meaning of each icon/shap on the top of the guide would be helpful also.
Too bad the hardware can’t handle it. A lot of people seeing failure to load content errors. Removing the FAST channels is the fix
For me, the new streaming channels work okay as far as I can tell. I have only added two or three to my guide. However, one weird thing, I added CNN Headline News to my guide, however all the guide data is in Spanish. For a minute I thought I had accidentally added CNN Xpress (which is their Spanish language channel) but, nope, it is reagular CNN with English language programming. Weird…
So, for giggles, I went back and added CNN Xpress. Sure enough, it is showing the same Spanish language program guide for both.
just deleted the new fast channels.
nothing of interest there for me.
also the record block makes them even less interesting
plus the more channels, the more clunky the guide becomes.
when set to only the 14 ota chans i will ever actually use, it’s possible to reset/update the guide easily.
but with dozens of chans, that process is tedious and has to be repeated 2-3 times IME before the servers crunch through it.
it’s just not an advantage to add channels if doing so slows down the system. Just sayin’
i prefer KIS
+1 this recommendation for me.
New FAST channels happen to coincide with my Channel Guide Data refusing to Update. Hence many OTA programs did not schedule because guide was broken/missing channels. I removed those new Channels and presto, Guide updated as normal including my missing OTAs.
