What I envision is that it will play through the episodes you have in order starting with the one that you initiate play from… for instance, S2E3, S2E4, if episode 5 is missing it would simply skip to the next one you have… perhaps S2E6, or possibly S7E14… whatever you have recorded for that show. When it runs out of episodes it would simply exit play.
What happens when it encounters an episode that has already been viewed.
I kind of understand a person who would use binge mode to put themselves to sleep. But for those that are awake and conscious and want to watch 4-5 1 hour episodes in a row, they can’t find the 10-15 seconds needed to move their fingers to play the next episode?
Potential customer here. I really want a solid device that I can use with my Emby set up and this looks like it could fit the bill. Unfortunately, because you’ve locked things down so much this is basically impossible. It would be really consumer friendly for you to open up some APIs or at the very least open up the streams so that other tools can hook into your system. Until this happens, probably not something that will work for me.
Well, as someone who just went to a 4th gen after being a long time customer and having the logic board go bad on my 3rd gen, commercial skip is what I want back the most. Even the legacy version’s commercial skip, that wasn’t perfect, definitely improved the viewing experience.
I have a skip forward function on my Gen 4. I hit the right navigation button and it skips ahead about ten seconds. If it is a fully pre-recorded program I also get thumbnails so I can see when the commercials end and the program starts.
How did the ‘commercial skip’ on the legacy devices work?
Okay, that is a really cool feature, but I can see why the new owner of Tablo, Scripps Networks, a business that relies on ad revenue, would not want to support that feature. I could also see how it could potentially tie them up with lawsuits.
I like all these ideas. Just one note, when in the guide, while you are scrolling down through channels, if you click left and highlight the channel name rather than the program name, when you select it goes right to the channel rather than asking if you want to record. Yes, I know it is the exact same number of clicks, but for some reason it bugs me less.
Remote device reboot has been a heavily debated topic for 10 years. The main argument against it is that if the Tablo is in a state where it needs a reboot, a reboot button likely wouldn’t work.
If you do want that functionality, just plug in the Tablo to a smart plug that you can control with an app. That way you can force a reboot anytime you want via the plug.
I will admit that I didn’t use the gen 4 much for 8-10 months. But I have been paying closer attention to the apps in the last 30 days. I’ve seen some weird stuff on roku. last week I saw a MLB game under the sports menu that said the mets were playing the game. But you couldn’t record it. But under library/allrecording the game in the same time slot said brewers and you could record it.
How you end up with 2 different games in the same time slot is very strange. One would think there is only one version of the truth in the guide.
