The language seemed to indicate that once I updated to the latest firmware for my legacy Tablo the 14 day guide would no longer cost $5 a month. I sent an email to Support but never heard back from them.
When I canceled the paid guide the system would no longer show me more than 24 hours and the DVR no longer would allow recording.
The Legacy Transtion allows you to download the 4th Gen app, which comes with 14 days of free TV Guide data.
It doen’t change anything with the Legacy app, and you can keep both.
Even after the Legacy Transtion, the Legacy app still requires a TV guide data service subcription to keep its 14 days of rolling TV guide data. However, you can switch to the 4th Gen app to access this free of charge.
I think this is an unfortunate drawback of canceling the Guide subscription - the Legacy app becomes useless? The upgrade didn’t cause it - canceling the subscription did. It will force those who cancel the subscription onto the Gen4 app.
Maybe if more parity existed between the apps it wouldn’t be so difficult to get users to migrate.
I wrote documentation for many years for computer programs 1000 times more complex than the tablo and your companies documentation and web site support is the worst I have ever seen in my whole life.
short story…after an hour of screwing around with this stupid crap
In ENGLISH. The new 4th gen app will not allow me to use the DVR function on a legacy device. I have to switch over to the legacy app 2.58 to use the DVR functionality AND have to pay $5 a month for this.
Within 4th Generation apps, all DVR features are subscription free. That includes setting one-time and series recordings as well as advanced recording options. If you cancel your legacy subscription, within legacy apps you will be limited to setting manual recordings. But, that shouldn’t matter since you have those advanced recording scheduling features in 4th Gen apps for free.
This is not correct. You absolutely can use the DVR functionality on a legacy device using the 4th gen app. I’ve been doing it for months. And it doesn’t require having a subscription when using the 4th gen app.
If you aren’t able to use the DVR functionality in the 4th gen app you have some other issue.
