Roku Tablo 4th Gen App Update (v. 0.8.800)

Hi Folks -

An update is now available for the Tablo Roku Channel for 4th Generation Tablo devices.

If you’ve already got the latest Tablo channel installed, and your ROKU is set to automatic updates, you should see version 0.8.800 shortly. You can also manually update the channel by going to SETTINGS > SYSTEM > SYSTEM UPDATE from your Roku home screen.

Here’s what you can expect:

Tablo Roku App (4th Gen) Update (v. 0.8.800)

  • New Library layout
  • New combined Series Information screen
  • Resolution for airings not always playing from Recent Recordings in Home
  • Resolution for grid focus occasionally jumping to top
  • Tablo connectivity improvements
  • Many other small bug fixes and performance improvements

We don’t yet have a fix for the issue introduced with the Roku OS 14 update on certain devices, as discussed here: Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns, but we are looking into any options available.

We hope you enjoy this update!

As always, if you have any questions or encounter any problems, feel free to post them below or touch base directly with support.

Does this fix the Roku version 14 bug where you cannot watch live or recordings from the OTA channels?

Thanks for the reminder on this, we’ve edited the original post to mention this. Unfortunately we have not yet figured out a fix yet, but are investigating all possibilities.

Thanks for the update. So far only one of my Roku has updated to 14, so I’m okay. I am looking forward to checking out the improvements in Tablo 0.8.800.

Also thanks for the update. This fixed my issue of the app crashing to the Roku Home screen when trying to access the library of recordings.

Just started playing with the new version. I love the new layout for the Library. Are the icons a little smaller to fit more on a single screen? I also like the conflict indicators. I assume you can click in there to resolve any conflicts. Oh, and series episodes appear to be sorted more logically and consistently.

I also found that I mine when exiting a live program it is staying on the current channel when returning to the grid.

Finally, it retains the fast launch when selecting the Tablo app.

Nicely done! Thank you.

Hello all,
I got my Tablo 4th Gen today in, got it installed via wireless Starlink, it did 2 software updates and finally got online using my Roku Streaming stick 4k in the living room updated to 14.0. Everything seems to be working fine. BUT…When i go into the other room and turn on my Roku streaming stick 4k “14.0” in the bedroom and open the Tablo
App i can watch Tablo channels, BUT NO Antenna channels, it trys to open the antenna channel but it won’t load. Both Roku sticks are updated to 14.0 and Tablo is updated to the 8 something version. I tried to turn off the signal booster in Tablo and nothing works. I did call in today and reported my problem. Has anyone else experienced this ???

read below are you having the same issue as me ???

I hate to be a noodge, but I found some things in the new update that I DON’T like.

First, in the library, the blue “New” icons no longer appear on unwatched episodes. It makes it very hard to figure out which ones I have already watched.

Second, I’ve complained before that when done with a recorded program it is too many clicks to delete it. In the previous version, once you exited the show it brought you back to the library page for that show with the episode you were just watching highlighted. You had to re-select that episode, and scroll down to ‘Delete Episode.’ It was five or six clicks.

In 0.8.800, now when you exit the recording it no longer highlights the episode you were watching, but instead the “Recordings” button. You now have to remember which episode you were watching (and as mentioned above, there is no “New” icon) and find it, re-select it and scroll down through the menu to delete.

In the next update, please change it back so it highlights the episode you were just watching.

EVEN BETTER, if you exit a recording in the last five minutes or so of the program, make it prompt you with a message that says “Would you like to delete this recording?” with two buttons to select either “Save” or “Delete.”

Again, I really like the new update, but I know that you folks welcome honest feedback. I hope these can be corrected in the next update.

When I read “new layout” I thought it was going to resemble the AppleTV and Android/Fire version so it took me a little while to realize that it was just a few minor tweaks here or there. Most of which are great – shows in numerical order by season, etc. (Thank you!)

However, a huge flaw I discovered is with failed recordings. I have two for the same show, and while it’s great to be able to see that at a glance from the Library tab, going into the series itself shows nothing different. It would be great to have an icon there (like before) so that I know which episodes need to be deleted.

The few tweaks here or there are looking really good and I’m sure it’s a precursor to the uniformity of the other two apps. Keep up the good work, but please bring back the ability to see how many recordings there are when you’re in the series information section!

This seems to have fixed the problem of the left arrow in a live view going back to the top of the grid. Thanks for the update. (Now let’s see if my Roku Ultra 4802X updates to version 14 and has the problem that lots of people are having).

3dinterceptor, lots of people are having problems with version 14 software and Roku. There is a whole topic on this forum dedicated to this subject.

Something that I spent a year asking for was finally incorporated over a month ago. I was more than happy when the ability to scroll the genre under the movies or shows tab. 0.8.800 took it away which now forces me to use the down button to manually scroll.

It appears that the scrolling issue with the guide has been fixed. The unit would jump to an arbitrary FAST channel when starting a guide scroll while near the top of the guide. FIXED

I got rid of airtv because of all the issues and now I am unable to watch my recorded shows. and yes, I’m using a roku Roku 3810x - Roku OS 14.04. unfortunately I can’t return the tablo.

Delete of recordings works a lot faster than before, even with the extra step of confirming that I want to delete. +++

The slow deletion of an episode and its corresponding thumbnail was a real bug for me, causing me to delete more recordings than I intended, if I was not careful. Even worse for other people in the household who are not used to fiddling with digital stuff, they just want it to work.

The order/numbering of episodes for a given show is also +++.

Glad to see the improvements. Keeping my fingers crossed while I wait for my Roku to update to ver. 14.

Earlier I thanked Tablo for this update. I want to withdraw this thanks for I have found a nasty bug that has been introduced. If I play a recorded program, at the end of the playback the program disappears from the list of recorded programs and sometimes locks up my Roku which then has to be reset. The program still shows up in my Android app however.

System:
2ch 4th gen Tablo FW 2.2.52
Roku Ultra 4802X OS 13.1.4
Tablo app: 0.8.800

All connections are Ethernet.

Note that the Roku OS is 13 not 14 that a lot of people are having trouble with.

Does Tablo test their SW before releasing it?

Maybe it’s this problem.

Hi @269587, when you navigate to the series information screen, there should be an item on the side navigation called “Failures”. That section should have a list of any failed recordings for that show.

Yes, I fully understand this and there’s plenty of information there. I don’t understand why you guys decided to forgo all playback/fail icons inside the show/movies information.

Because I’m still getting duplicates of one show, I cannot tell which ones are the fails and which ones are fully recorded. What you’re saying is that I have to manually write down information before I enter the show series to make the comparison…

Please bring back the old system with notation icons for both new/played/failed recordings.

(BTW, shouldn’t the the forum admin be the one moving posts while TabloTV answers them?)

Just to clarify, we have a Failures section in the main Library, which seems to be what you’re referring to, which will list all airing failures total. If you go into the Series Information screen for a specific show, there is also a Failures section for just that show.

The screen I’m referring to is this one:

For additional clarity, an airing that is classified as a failure did not record at all, and can be safely deleted.

Thanks for the repeated information… again.

I have nothing further to add, since you’re completely blowing past my problem. I’d like to see where this lines up with the other split and recorded shows.

As others have mentioned, not having a “new” or “watched” icon is a ridiculous change from how customers use a DVR or any other streaming app. Despite my dislike of the new layout, it could be useful. It should add an informational layer to it, not take away from what you had in previous versions.
