So you are saying that on the gen 4 a show scheduled to record for 60 minutes where the signal drops out after 10 minutes isn’t classified as a failed recording because there is 10 minutes of recording. and that the gen 4 won’t start recording that show if the signal becomes strong enough within 2 minutes of dropping out.
Thank you. This is exactly my point! I have no idea which if any parts were recorded. Sometimes a recording will split and only part of it will fail!
Even though the product has been released for over a year you are the roku app beta tester.
Apologies for the misunderstanding, there were several issues being conflated.
If a show is recording, and there is a signal or network drop, the recording will not “fail” (again, a failure, in the sense that it is used in our menus, is specifically one that failed immediately and was not recorded at all).
What will happen is it will cut it there (for example if there was a signal issue after 10 minutes, you would get a 10 minute long recording that was playable), and then attempt retries. If the signal recovers, you will get another recording for that airing. The way to tell them apart is the time range displayed below each.
All of that said, this is not a specific function of Roku, and is more based on the Tablo firmware and how it handles interruptions. We regularly have discussions on this topic, so we appreciate all the feedback.
And since these failures are much more common on FAST channels does that logic work the same way. And of course FAST channels often have the same show scheduled multiple times and the firmware seems to auto-reschedule to rerecord. Doesn’t not having these in the failed category mean the user possible ends up with lots of recordings of the same FAST show without any indication that these failures are stacking up.
The answer is YES - unless you want to babysit those shows…
It seems like this product is never going to be ready. While it’s awesome that Tablo has great ideas and continues to try to improve their product, what seems to be happening is a focus on nonproblemattc things that when implemented then create an issue elsewhere.
How many of these issues did not exist before the new layout? Why didn’t Tablo make ALL the layouts the same, instead deciding they needed a different GUI for each of the major systems (Android/Fire, Roku, AppleTV)? It likely would have saved time and energy in hoping that they would one day conform to the same UX – which is impossible considering the three platforms.
I’m sorry, but the more this goes on, the less I use my Tablo. Will I get rid of it? No. I use it for a few shows. Some that I watch before they’re streaming elsewhere and a couple that are not available other than OTA. It’s no wonder that I’ve sold one 2-tuner and packed away the other.
It was a nifty little toy while it lasted. While it was useful. Please, continue to make the apps even more overwhelmingly ridiculous.
I tried to make that point with the last gen 4 firetv stick update. That update made the gen 4 version even more ridiculous then the legacy firetv stick app and that was hard to do. It’s sort of like a cancer that has now spread to the roku app.
This seems to be the problem I am having except that not only will recorded shows disappear from the Roku listing, but the Roku Ultra will lock up and has to be reset with the reset button (on the Roku not the Tablo, press the reset button quickly or it will factory reset).
Since the update, I can’t watch any recordings on my tv. But I can on my phone. I can’t watch the 4 major local networks at all on my tv, but I can on my phone. What’s up with that? My scan lists all the major networks in the channel guide. It just won’t let me watch them. It shows that my recordings have been recorded. It just won’t let me watch them on the tv.
Do a little digging in the Roku Threads… there is a fix for all that. Its buried in the Roku Threads in the Troubleshooting section.
edit: not fix, but a workaround.
Tablo 4th gen 5hr time difference under 0.8.800. One picture shows it all. Navigated to Shows/Live Now and selected the Walking Dead thumbnail. The time under the thumbnail shows 12:17-1:07PM but, the time at the top of the information page shows the incorrect time of 05:17-06:07PM. The shows do record at the correct time.
It’s the same whether on the Roku OS 13 or 14.
It helps to add the picture.
Nice catch. Mine is doing the exact same thing. I never use that menu, so I wouldn’t have noticed if you hadn’t pointed it out.
Update: I spoke too soon. It is not just on that menu. Mine is doing the same thing when I select from the live grid. Mine is off by four hours. I’m on EDT (New York time zone).
astrojimbo, what time zone do you live in? My time is off by seven hours. It looks like the time that is wrong may be showing UTC.
This is the least of my problems with 0.8.800. The whiteout problem has come back (if it ever went away). And there is the disappearing recording problem. Other people are having problems with Roku 14 (fortunately my Roku has not updated yet).
Tablo is going to have a lot of returns if they do not fix these problems quickly.
I’m in the central time zone, thus the 1hr diff. Itdoes look like UTC.
I’m in the central zone which is UTC -5.
I cannot view ota channels on my roku. i click on channel and it bounces back to guide. Roku model 3941X2. Roku OS 14.04 and application version 0.8.800-734366. Is there a fix for this?
Do you have another way, other than Roku, to try?
unfortunately no
This sounds like the bugs induced by Roku pushing out ver 14. It is a known issue and they are working on it, but there is no ETA for a fix. There is a workaround that works for some, but not others. For some it loads and you get picture, but no sound. Give it a try.
In the settings for the Roku device, go to Audio → Digital Output Format → Custom, then make sure Dolby Digital is selected for the Dolby section. Can leave DTS off. Then go back to the Tablo app and try again.
You can find more information in the thread called “Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns.”
thanks for the response. appreciate it. i can’t get into my Tablo on my lg tv lately also for some reason. if i can get that resolved, i won’t even worry about Roku. Works fine on my phone though. Can always just airplay it to my tv. Not ideal but it will have to for now. Thanks again.
