Roku rebooting

So, Roku doesn’t seem concerned. Does anyone have suggestions for an alternative player that actually works with Tablo?

@RetiredEngineer Excellent observation! I think we all need to keep an eye open when it happens so we can get to the root cause.

Also @RetiredEngineer I can use you on The Man Cave Cinema Rant

Continuing the discussion from Roku rebooting:

@RetiredEngineer Please read mbellaire’s post. He had Roku rebooting on several apps but not Tablo. Many of us here have had zero reboots on all apps. This is not an issue Tablo can solve. Only time will tell if Roku got sorted with the updated pushed yesterday.

@mbellaire did you post your rebooting issues on the Roku forum? What kind of a response did you get?

I got the Roku update last night, and no reboots. I plan on running more tests today and tonight and see what happens.

I’ve had reboots in Netflix and Tablo.

When it first started to happen, there were many other posts and one very long one started on Hulu reboot.

FYI, I had a spontaneous reboot last night, just in the middle of watching a show with now remote input at all.

@roraniel - Yes, I made numerous posts on the Roku forum in the middle of 2014. The response from Roku was that they were aware of the issue and were collecting data to devise a solution. So I (and others I assume) just took a sit back and wait attitude. It took months and months, but it has gotten much better - but I still get the occasional restart.

I just experienced a roku freeze/reboot during fast forward of a recorded program on the new firmware. Both of my roku 3’s updated to the new firmware last night.

Fascinating… as spock would say.

I just got the Roku update on my Roku3. Now on version 6.2 Build 3467. So far no reboots but only time will tell

I had 1 reboot last night with a recorded show and it already created the thumbnails. That was on the HT Roku. The bedroom Roku was fine yesterday.

The HT Roku was a Roku 3 or another model?

Both are Roku 3’s.

Finally saw this happen for the first time ever today on my Roku 3 :frowning:

I had a couple of reboots last night watching a recorded show. Roku 3 with the new firmware (3467). Bummer…

New firmware is worse for me, now getting reboots in the TED app. One reboot in Tablo, but nothing in Netflix so far. Thinking Roku was a mistake as a front end, three firmware updates in a row that cause issues.

Gee Thanks Roku, your “Update” made my Roku 3 horrible. I was only getting a reboot once every 6 hours or so, now I can’t even make it through a 1 hour show. If I owned stock in Roku I would be dumping it left and right.

I have not had a single reboot since the firmware update. Hmmm.

I went through the same frustrating experience with my 2XS, waiting on a firmware release to fix the restart problem (of course some people had no problems at all, while others were suffering) only to find that the new release either made it worse or did not fix.

Some may say that Tablo isn’t totally transparent when it comes to firmware and new feature releases - but Roku is opaque - firmware comes out and no one knows what fixes or enhancements are included (unless you can determine through your own testing).

+1 to this. Before I’d only “occasionally” have a reboot. Watching one show I had two within 30 mins. Basically gave up on it as it was so annoying. May have to consider another front end device if a solution isn’t found.

Are these reboots happening when you ff through commercials? If so try this method.
Pause the video first
Use the directional pad to skip ahead one bif frame at a time
Press play (not the select/OK button) to resume play

Using that method I am getting no reboots.
