We’re sorry you’re running into this and understand this is frustrating.
The issue was brought about not by one of our updates but by the Roku 14 update. Roku 14 came with many improvements but also changed how Roku streaming devices deal with Surround Sound audio (AC3). Since AC3 Surround Sound is the standard audio format for over-the-air television, this change impacted how our 4th Generation Tablo devices interact with Roku for live TV playback.
I have 4 TV’s and they all operate with ROKU Units. On each, I have added the Tablo app. 3 of the 4 TV’s operate Tablo fine. All channels in the guide load and perform fine. A 4th TV loads the TV guide of available channels. Any channel with a NN.N channel format tries to load but returns to the guide. Any channel without a channel number loads fine. I have the latest version of both ROKU and Tablo loaded. My Tablo is 4th Generation.
I have set up a Tablo devise for a family member. They use two different Roku devises (stick and Ultra) and they both work on one TV bot not another. When selecting a channel from the Live Guide or home page it reverts back to the guide.
I reset (including full factory reset) Tablo, restarted Roku devices and restarted modem/router (Xfinity) with no luck.
It should be notee that I too use Tablo and whenever I reset/restart the Tablo I get the multi-colored Tablo logo start up but not these devices in question.
I sent an email to Tablo support but got an automated response related to Roku OS 14 update but it makes zero sense since the devices work on one TV but not another.
Nuvyyo’s explanation is here: Update on 4th Generation Tablo Compatibility with Roku OS 14 You’re right. It makes no sense but some combinations of Roku and TV work and some don’t. It seems to have something to do with which audio formats the TV’s HDMI input supports. Changing the Roku’s digital audio settings sometimes helps. If your TV has a setting for HDMI audio input, try fiddling with that.
Is there a list of devices with the problem as I can’t find one that has it. I would not have even known of this problem if I did not come here today. So does not effect that many or only certain or older models as I an Ultra, LT and I just got the newest 2024 Ultra and they all work fine.
It is hard to narrow down. I have six TVs with five different models of Roku. It seems to be a combination of older Roku with older TVs that are most likely to exhibit the problem. It has something to do with how they handle different audio codex.
It will run, the time-out and go back to the previous screen. My android app does not have that problem. The only channels that loan and play are the ones with channel in front. Like, 2 NBC won’t, but IFC will.
