@cliffbdb What kind and how old are the TVs they are connected to?
2018 Samsung 65" Model #QN65Q7CNAF. Roku model #3941X2
All other apps work fine with sound, even when the Roku “audio” settings are set to “Dolby Digital” and the “DTS” is turned off as instructed by Tablo. The Tablo app shows the picture, but, no sound.
Amazon Fire Stick on sale, save $20. I ordered 2. Tired of waiting for Roku and Tablo to resolve this issue.
One is an LG maybe15 years old. One is a Sansui about 5 years old. and the LG with the problem was purchased in Dec. of 2019. It seems to have the most options for setup and maybe something in there is wrong but every app I’ve tried except Tablo seems to work just fine. When I was setting up either Netflix or Prime (I think Prime) it said I could change the display to HDMI HD Deep Color which I did but after reading a lot of posts I decided to set it back to what it was (or think I did anyhow ) It didn’t seem to make any difference.
Sorry I was slow to respond. I had to run out for the afternoon
@cliffbdb Quite alright. I was just curious if there was any correlation between Roku device and TV device. My Roku Streamstick+ is connected to a 10 year old Toshiba dumb tv and it works without any settings changes. If any I expected that one not to work. I have one more that hasn’t updated yet connected to a 2019 Samsung smart TV. It is a Roku Express 4k+. Waiting to see what happens.
I replaced my two Roku Ultras with two Onn 4k pro units a while ago. For more reasons than just Tablo. One of the retired Ultras I moved to a small cheap old Vizio 24" TV in the kitchen. I finally gave that TV/Roku combo a try. Everything worked great with no problems at all. I played about 15 minutes of live OTA TV and played about half an episode of recorded Judge Judy and it all played fine. I just don’t get the inconsistency of these units across the various models. The Roku is a 4660X at 14.0.4. The Roku/Tablo app is at 0.8.801. All three of my Roku sound settings are at the ones with “Auto” in their descriptions. The “Auto-adjust display refresh rate” is Off.
The 0.8.801 update works on my Roku Ultra 4802X. But the OS 14 often locks up my Roku when I power on my TV. It stays locked up for about 20 seconds and then reboots. After that it works normally. This is not caused by the Tablo app, I removed it and it still happened. This is a Roku issue so I will have to contact Roku customer support (if they have any).
Instead of selecting “Custom” select “Stereo”. This has worked for many devices when the Dolby setting is showing a picture with no sound. So, within the Roku device, select “Settings” > “Audio” > “Digital output format” > “Stereo”. Make sure “Stereo” is checked and “Auto” and “Custom” is NOT checked. This setting works for many devices when the “Custom” is showing a picture with no sound.
Doesn’t work. No picture or sound. Just bounces back to previous screen.
After you change the Roku settings to “Stereo”, pull the power on the Roku for around 30 seconds and plug back in so that the the Roku reboots. Give it time to reboot and time for it to reconnect to your WIFI. During the boot-up process, I believe you should see large “Roku” letters jumping up and down on your screen.
Hopefully this helps. It works for many, but, doesn’t work for all. It worked on my two Samsung TV’s when the “Custom” setting simply showed a picture with no sound.
No, your witchcraft didn’t work for me.
I have the same problem now for over a month. Every time I contact support they say they are waiting for Roku to make a change. Tablo needs to make a change to get this to work. This is the reason I bought Tablo to get local channels. What good is it if I can’t play them.

Nope same thing
Go into the settings, on your TV, and see if it has a Stereo only setting. Select the Stereo setting and try again. Be sure to disconnect the power, from your Roku, and plug it back it again so that the Roku does a full reboot.
I have two different Roku devices that are BOTH model #3941X2, but, different serial numbers. The Stereo setting works on one of the Roku’s, but, does not work on the other when they are connected to the same TV. This is such a bizzar problem.
Moving this to our main thread on the Roku 14 concerns.
The Roku 14 update killed the Tablo from playing live and recorded broadcasts on many Roku devices. It affected 2 out of my 4. One of the 2 is now working fine as of 2 days ago. So, work is definitely being done on the issue. My Roku Ultra now has picture but no sound for my Tablo’s recordings and antenna channels. All else on Tablo plays fine. When playing the live and recorded video with no sound, a notification momentarily appears “An incompatible audio signal has been received. Change the output device audio settings to PCM.” Just hoping this info. may help with the ongoing work to solve this issue.

I had noticed this on my Roku tv but not on other devices. I just confirmed the issue by looking at a video with the XX:XX in place of the time indicators. Then I checked the software update for this Roku and it loaded. It corrected the time issue and the XX:XX had disappeared. Yay!
After playing with the various ROKUs and TVs, I found that the following works on all three of my TVs
ROKU Menu
Audio
Digital format
Custom (NOT stereo)
Dolby
Dolby Digital (not plus)
DTS off
The above was supposed to be indented but isn’t but you should be able to walk through it.
I’m not sure if you can play with some of these but these do work on the 3 TVs I listed.
YMMV but I hope this helps some of you.
