Roku 14 and Live Grid Concerns

I’ve had two different Roku devices work differently on the same TV. I have an older Express+ which gets audio with the Dolby workaround (even though there are other issues), and I have a newer Express 4K+ which does not get audio with the Dolby workaround. Go figure.

I hope I’m not jinxing myself and the rest of you by saying that since the recent update to 0.8.801 I no longer experience any problems with over the air or lost programs. My love-hate relationship with Tablo as shifted to love again

It is in the Roku section of the settings, but it doesn’t say ‘Tablo.’ I think it is labeled ‘Application Version’ or something like that.

Well… Roku finally got me. It updated the Roku that I had connected to a timer to keep it turned off. It must have snuck it in while I was using it…sneaky little B&*%$@!

Hoping for a solution soon…

Tablo decided to put the Tablo Application version under the Roku area in the Tablo app settings. It’s called “Application Version” with description “The application version of your roku”. Obviously this description is versy misleading. It should say “Tablo application version”

To get the software version of Tablo:

  1. Start tablo on Roku
  2. Move to top-right corner to Settings button
  3. Scroll down to Roku
  4. Tablo App version is “Application Version” under Roku heading

I hope this helps.

Tablo, please edit/remove this webpage that shows how to fix this OTA Live TV playback. You posted this 3 months ago and it doesn’t work.

Will there be an app update today that addresses and fixes the issue of not being able to watch OTA channels?

I just install my tablo two nights ago. I have four shows recorded. None of them will play
E very time I select Play episode it actually takes me back to the library menu. I’m using a Roku. I rebooted and I cleared my Roku cache as well as the Tablo cache. This Tablo is only 2 days old. So I only have a couple hours of recordings on here.

Sadly, you came in during the Roku OS14 bug. There is a workaround that works for SOME users, but not all.

In the settings for the Roku device, go to Audio → Digital Output Format → Custom, then make sure Dolby Digital is selected for the Dolby section. Can leave DTS off. Then go back to the Tablo app and try again.

For some users this solves the problem, for others, they get picture but no sound. It seems it has to do with the combination of Roku and specific TV.

Tablo is working on a fix, but we do not have an ETA.

KGBnut is correct.

We have made Roku aware of this issue and are working with them to resolve this as soon as possible.

Moving this to our main thread for such in order to keep everything in the same place.

The Tablo product is defective, especially when used on Roku devices. There are an overwhelming number of people who cannot watch TV, at all, when using the Tablo on the their Roku device. This has been an issue for over 3 weeks and there is no fix in sight. All other apps work on the latest Roku 14 OS update. Tablo is the only app that doesn’t work properly on many Roku devices. The Tablo support staff provides only word salad responses regarding this major problem. In reality, it doesn’t appear the Tablo will work properly on ALL Roku devices any time soon.

In my opinion, I would return the Tablo and purchase a HDHomerun tuner.

TabloAdmin: How soon is asap? Your Tablo 4th generation box is useless right now can’t watch any OTA programing. Your work around with Dolby Digital setting is useless for old TV’s. Need a REAL Fix

Its a useless fix even WITH many tv’s that have Dolby Digital.

I have a Roku that didn’t take the automatic update for some reason and it’s at 13 and works fine. I also have a Roku that took the 14 update and still works. I have 7 Rokus and 3 of the 7 work. I am not happ and haven’t been for 3 or 4 weeks. Fire Sticks are on sale for $30. Going to buy one today to test out. If it works Roku would be out of my vocabulary. I know it’s not totally on Tablo but they are going to start getting a bad name if someone buys a Tablo and Roku together and it doesn’t work they are going to be totally ticked. My only use really for Tablo is connecting my outside antenna to get local channels. Great idea if only it worked.

Every other app works correctly on the Roku 14 OS. This includes both of the Tablo competitors’ products. Tablo is the only app that does not work properly. As a result, Tablo is either not working on this issue or they do not know what they are doing. I just cannot recommend this defective Tablo product for anyone to buy.

Three of my four Roku devices have updated to 14.0 (StreamingStick+, Soundbar and Ultra (4660x). All of them work with no issues (except the font issue which was just fixed). That doesn’t mean I don’t feel for the people that it isn’t working for. It concerns me that this is an ongoing issue…major problems take weeks or months to get resolved only for more crop up. It makes me think that I should consider changing to a different product (away from Tablo) however, they might have their own set of problems.

I have to take them at their word and believe they are doing everything they can to get this resolved quickly but without breaking something else.

I’ve had the Silicondust HDHomerun tuner for over 2 years. I’ve not had any issues with it, even after any update. The Tablo was placed at my mother’s house about 3 months ago. There has been nothing but problems with the Tablo. This is the biggest problem so far and there is no fix in sight. If its not fixed by the end of the week, this Tablo is going into the garbage and I will replace it with a HDHomerun tuner at my mother’s house.

Might be less expensive to replace the Roku device with an ONN device from Wal-mart than to buy a HDHomerun. Sounds like they work great.

But whatever you do, good luck! I wish it worked for you and everyone like it should.

Na. My mother is a senior. She is use to the Roku interface because the Roku is the most user friendly device to her. I am not going to change it. I have extra HDHomerun tuners in stock. I used the Tablo at my mother’s house because I thought it would be more user friendly to her, than the HDHomerun. However, she will get used to the HDHomerun.

I have 3 Roku Express 4K+ units. All of them are Model 3941X2 with SW 14.0.4 build 12221. Two work just fine. The third one (latest purchase) has all the problems about spinning and going back to play live again and again. According to all the info I can find they are identical but it is the newest purchase (Oct 19th from Amazon) that is not working.

Tablo last updated 3:02 AM today (Oct 23) firmware 2.2.52

WTF. I would love to know what is different.
