Having no Dolby capability on your TV is not the issue, for the 50/50 sucess rate for the workaround. This requirement(Dolby) should not necessary for things to work properly (as evidence of pre 14.0.4 operation). Roku/Tablo better not be antiquating TVs with future fixes!!!
I have that issue with Roku model 3820X and I also have two more Roku on other TV and no issues at all . I think they are 3810 I have to check. The one with the problem has up date 14.0.04 and don’t know exactly when the update was done .
I have that issue. Add my Roku is an ultra. 4670X
I updated the Wikipedia article about the Roku OS as follows: “Starting on 29-Sep-2024 when OS 14 was deployed, Tablo 4th Generation DVRs either could no longer play at all, or after settings adjustments, would play but without any audio.”
Is this update correct? Please advise if any changes are needed. Thanks.
If this problem keeps dragging on, I’ll also update the Wikipedia pages for Roku, Roku Inc and Tablo
The accuracy really isn’t that important. What is important is there are so many people whose Tablo 4th Gen is not working or not working as it should. My Tablo 4 Gen hasn’t been working for over 2 weeks. Whenever I select a channel to watch, the grid simply reappears. I cannot watch any channel. All other apps work fine. Tablo has been aware of this problem ever since the Roku update occurred, about 3 weeks ago. Tablo has done nothing regarding this issue except provide word salad responses to frustrated customers. I am told the last time this happend, it took Tablo over 2 months to push out a fix. Tablo is definitely not making this issue a high priority by any means. I would return the Tablo and purchase a Silicondust HDHomerun tuner.
It’s not correct. I have OS 14 and my 4th Gen Tablo (4 channel) works just fine. Obviously there’s some issue for a lot of folks but it’s obviously not universal. Some people are having problems. How many is the issue.
@glenwolde , what model Roku are you using? What are your audio settings? Your Roku is feeding HDMI into your TV? Which brand and model? Thanks.
Thank you for let us know ,I chat with Roku this morning , not customer service at all , despite that I own 3 Roku devices, or is a Robot answering or people without the knowlodge to resolve the issue .
you are complete right ,is a waist time and inconvenience , but We already bought the device they don’t care now . HD Home run is better product in some area , but not memory and not recording option w/o a PC etc. TK
@sil101924 , despite owning 3 problematic DVRs (Tablo, AirTV & Aluratek), I just bought an HDHomeRun Quattro (4-tuner). Thanks for the tip.
One thing after another. Now when I try to airplay my iOS devices to my TV, the video casts over, but the sound is gone on both the iPhone and iPad. Did Tablo change the iOS apps recently? After 10 months, I may finally have to give up on the device. It’s a pity it was an excellent concept, but it seems it just can’t work.
I have three TV’s. 80% of usage is on the LR TV. It’s a TCL ROKU OS 14.04. that’s less than a year old. I also have an older (4 years?) Toshiba Roku TV in a spare room and a really ancient Panasonic in the Master Bedroom that’s dumb and is equipped with a 4k Roku Stick in the HDMI slot.
Tablo is the 4th Gen 4 Tuner. It’s a couple of months old. It replaced a 2 Tuner that died. They replaced the 2 Tuner under warranty but I wanted a 4 Tuner so I bought on and kept the replacement 2 tuner as a backup.
For Audio I have a 4 channel LG soundbar with wireless speakers hooked to the TCL eARC port (LG S40 TR). The other two TV’s are just running the TV Speakers. Private listening with headphones through the phone AP works fine with all.
Hope that helps. Oh, they are all hooked to the Tablo by wireless WiFi network.
Well, Roku updated two more of my devices over the weekend. I now have three useless units out of six. To be fair, two of my other Roku updated to 14 and are mostly okay. My last one that is running Roku OS13 I rigged so power is on a timer. Hopefully keeping that unit powered down when not using it will keep it from ‘upgrading.’
But, I TRIED A THING, because I was curious… on one of my now-useless older Roku I decided to try a factory-reset in hope that it would reset it to the OS that it originally shipped with. Sadly, it did not work. It wiped out all of my settings and personal information and app log in information, but it stayed at OS 14. Oh well, it was worth a try.
To be fair, it is not a universal problem. It would be more accurate to say that “many users of Tablo 4th Generation DVRs either could no longer play.”
I don’t know who’s to blame here, but I finally just gave up and bought another onn Google TV 4K Streaming Box from Walmart. I already had one because I liked that Tablo app/interface much better than the Roku app, even before this fiasco. I have multiple Roku devices running OS 14, and I’ve found that each has different problems with Tablo, even when connected to the same TV. Life is just too short.
I had mixed feelings about the onn device, but yes, that version of the Tablo app is Tablo at its best. It is what Tablo SHOULD be.
@KGBnut thanks. In the Wikipedia article, I inserted the word “many” before “Tablo 4th Generation DVRs” to indicate that it’s not a universal problem. I’m guessing it depends on whether the TV that the HDMI cable is connected to has compatible audio capabilities. Evidently, many do not.
Thanks again.
Have Roku express 4k + with 14 os
Just did the custom Dolby digital
And worked.
Thank
On to Roku 0.8.800 with firmware 2.2.52: after a Latest video is played, it disappears from the Library so it cannot be replayed or deleted. IMO, this is a defect. Problem is not on Firestick or iOS.
Given the latest corporate sale and pending ATSC 3, is Tablo gen 4 or later still a viable 3rd party OTA DVR vendor?
