(Resolving) Intermittent Server Issues - January 2

Hi folks -

We are experiencing intermittent server issues affecting 4th Generation Tablo devices. Some fixes have already been implemented, and we are continuing to investigate and monitor the situation. Live TV and Library screens will remain accessible on apps that support Offline Mode.

Some new users are also experiencing delays in receiving codes to complete Tablo account registration. If you have not received your code and it is not in your spam or junk folder, please call Tablo Support at 1-844-TABLOTV (822-5688) to obtain your code over the phone.

UPDATE January 2 - 5:00 p.m. ET

All server operations are now running smoothly. There may be some additional slowdowns during the early morning hours on Saturday, but they should resolve quickly.

The issue with account registration code delivery has also been resolved. If you still do not have your registration code, please call Tablo Support at 1-844-TABLOTV (822-5688) to obtain yours over the phone

Thank you again for your patience as we worked to resolve these issues.

UPDATE January 6 - 11:30 a.m. ET

Thanks again for your patience over the last few days. We’re glad that many of you were able to take advantage of Offline Mode to continue watching live TV and recordings.

This recent period of server instability was a result of growing pains as we attempted to switch to a newer, more resilient server infrastructure. Despite meticulous planning and testing before deployment, the changes did not perform as expected when in production.

We now have a much clearer understanding of why these issues occurred and how to move forward. Additional planning and more thorough load testing will be completed before we attempt to migrate to the new infrastructure again.

In the short term, things should return to previous levels of stability, and we’ll do our best to minimize any future impacts.

Thanks for the update. It comes with weird messages of scanning chanels over and over again and does not connect with samsung Tvs
Please can you do a betatesting before doing any release and not break things which are working.

Not just G4.
My legacy is extremely slow filling in guide (only 5 items) and Fox (13.2) has no data.
TCL TV with ROKU.

4th Gen here. Live TV grid is completely empty.

I’m new to Tablo. It seems like there’s an issue with servers everyday. Is this normal? Every morning I turn it on and it doesn’t work.

Since these server issues appear to continue to happen, is it possible to implement a mechanism to manually enter offline mode.

Well, no. It’s not normal. Typically once you get your device set up and configured you should be good to go. However, there are sometimes issues that affect everyone. Throughout this holiday season, we haven’t been too affected by the server issue. Yes, we got kicked out of our show once in a while, but we got back in and continued watching. We had no issues with completing or watching recordings, either.

For the new user, this week has been especially bad, especially in the morning. However, the servers and app are much more unstable than other services that I use on an ongoing basis. We primarily use the service for local news and turned to Tablo almost a year ago instead of paying for live streaming services or cable. We continue to hope that the service will eventually stabilize, but it is not there yet.

Our experience over the past week or so was that, even though the servers were experiencing issues and our Status page was wonky, our viewing/recording didn’t seem to be much affected. We saw the Offline Mode pop up occasionally, but then it went away and we continued watching.

Try fully closing the app and re-opening it. If that doesn’t work, deleting the app and re-adding it should help. This won’t erase your recordings or settings.

Onward to NFL playoffs and Super Bowl :slightly_smiling_face:

with working Tablos let’s hope

Thanks. It returned after restarting the device. This has been happening regularly, like once a week since I switched to 4th Gen. While the 4th Gen is superior to the original, this issue is frustrating. It’s also frustrating that the app is updated occasionally with bugs. The IT department is most likely using the Agile methodology, although incorrectly. There’s no excuse for moving code into production that hasn’t been fully tested. For instance, the channel lineup that is displayed while watching live TV is never updated once it’s loaded. If checked hours later, the original channel lineup is reflected showing shows that were on when the app was started. How does that get past testing?

I have had some issues as well. And I hope this isn’t taken the wrong way. I have had my gen 4 for maybe a month and there has been many, many issues that are reflected here in the forums. I am curious is there hopefully gonna be a time when it just works? I mean I know problems are always gonna pop up from time to time with these kinds of devices but it’s been pretty much ongoing since I got mine. It’s a great device but if we have to endlessly reset, delete app and reinstall etc, then where does that leave us?

4G all working well just now, although I had some online/offline messages last evening and earlier today.

Glad to hear it.

We’ve made some additional server changes that seem to have stabilized things.

Still keeping an eye out for additional blips.

It’s very disappointing that this company can’t seem to maintain a stable and reliable product. I wanted very much to be a supporter of this product, but after having the 4G for 2 years now, I can’t recommend it to any family or friends due to the recurring issues at the server level and bugs with software updates.

Thanks for the update. Yes, all my devices (Apple, Fire) seem back to normal.

Given the extent of technical problems lately, there should be some communication from Tablo management (other than this thread) as to the reasons for the issues (not too technical) and steps being taken to mitigate this in the future. Is it underlying technology, insufficient support/resources, staff development, quality control, etc? I would hope by now that someone would have an understanding as to why so many issues continue. As someone else mentioned, I could not recommend this to someone else unless they are willing to reboot, clear cache/data, reinstall apps, etc. This severely limits the population that can effectively utilize this service.

I didn’t buy TABLO to watch streaming channels. Could care less! All I want is a reliable means of watching and recording a limited number of OTA broadcast channels. Please explain why, in the six weeks I’ve owned the Tablo gen 4, I’ve had to deal with server glitches EVERY Single Day!
