I recently upgraded to the Table 4g and use it with my AppleTV and iPhone. Mostly it’s working okay, except for one strange issue: Scheduled recordings of Saturday Night Live mysteriously disappear after the show airs. The first few times it happened, I thought they were not recording due to an issue with how I set up the schedule. But last Saturday I turned on the live stream while the SNL episode was on and saw that the Tablo was recording it. Yet the next day, the recording was not found in the library under All Recordings (i.e. no filters). Other programs are recording with no issue, including shows on the same station (NBC). Storage is not an issue, I have a 1TB external SSD with nearly all of it available. What could be causing this?
Does it show up under recent?
No, it doesn’t show up anywhere.
Hi @Rob_Block
Just to double-check, is it only SNL this happens with? Do you have any other devices? If so, can you see the SNL recordings there?
It seems to happen with other NBC shows. I recorded an episode of Late Night and it showed up in the library. But when I tried to play it, I got an error that it couldn’t be played, and the show immediately disappeared.
The shows in question do not show up on any devices.
I’ve seen this happen when there is suppose to be a recorded show but it really never got off the ground for whatever reason. the entry is in the library but there isn’t really any data. So it disappears when you try to play it.
I noticed this happening on several devices after a Roku update in Oct this year. I watch a video and when it reaches the end of the show the video closes and disappears from the ‘Library/Latest’ list. However, I am able to see them in the ‘Shows/Channels’ listing under the channel/show/recordings icon.
Only some of my devices experience this phenomena. One Roku does but another does not. It’s annoying as I’d may want to delete a show after watching for space but other times I may want to re-watch but have to go in search.
The shows disappearing after you finish watching them was a known problem with the last update to Tablo. The shows are there, just not displaying. You will likely see them in the Tablo app for your phone. If you watch one of those programs for a few minutes, then check the library on your Roku, it will likely reappear.
This was fixed in the most recent app update of the Tablo app for Roku. Check which version you are running.
What @KGBnut said.
Details on the update are here: Roku Tablo 4th Gen App Update (v. 0.8.801) .
I don’t have a Roku, As I mentioned, AppleTV and iPhone. The recording is not visible on any device, the problem is not player specific.
This solution has nothing to do with the problem I reported. I have AppleTV and iPhone, not Roku.
Could it be a weak signal on NBC for you? I’ve found the signal strength indicator on Tablo is pretty flawed. Weather conditions sometimes affects my signal. On my legacy Tablo it would show the recording but not play it, giving me a weak signal pop up. I’m not sure on the gen 4 what it shows/not shows.
After more testing, the problem is not limited to SNL or even the channel. Any show that is not a sports event is being deleted within 24 hours. I recorded episodes of Jeopardy, The Tonight Show and a random show on PBS. I have screenshots of all of them in my library, and I was able to play parts of them. But now they are all gone from the library (on any device), and I’m positive I did not delete them. I still have three sports events (football, baseball) that have not been affected. It looks like there is some setting that is wiping out TV shows after a brief amount of time. How do I debug this?
We discussed this with our support team.
It appears they already have a ticket and will be in touch.
Mine is doing the same thing. It was working flawlessly until a week or two ago. Now it’s either not recording all of the scheduled shows or the recordings are not showing up in the recorded shows file.
My phone shows the table device as 2.2.42 I’m using a 1 tb hard drive with it.
PLEASE tell me how to fix this!!
Hi Whosnext,
While these don’t cover the exact issue you’re running into, the troubleshooting in these articles may help:
If these fail, please consider reaching out to our technical support team: https://tablotv.com/support/#contact . They should be able to assist.
Tablo team,
I want to make sure you understand that, at least in my case, nothing is showing up in the failed recordings section and there are no errors. The shows are recorded and show up in the Library for a brief period (and are playable), and then they simply disappear without a trace. Would you agree that this is a bug?
I have talked to the support team, but so far all they have recommended is to replace the external drive, which doesn’t make sense and just seems like a way to brush off the issue. If there is any problem recording to the drive, it should at least show up in the Failed Recordings section, but that is not happening. I would like to get a better explanation for what is happening, since I don’t seem to be the only one.
They have not been helpful. They are blaming the hard drive and telling me to replace it, but I see no evidence that this would explain the issue. Why are shows disappearing from the library without any user action? This seems like a software bug and I’d like you to investigate and address it.
We understand your frustration but if your Tablo is connected to an unsupported hard drive, it’s difficult for us to troubleshoot.
It may be viable to reproduce this issue with said drive detached. If the internal drive has the same problem, that will give our support team more to go on.
Just out of curiosity, what is the external drive that you have?
