My internet has been bad lately with frequent outages. The latest email said software changes were being made to still access the 4th gen Tablo without connecting to the Internet but this is still not the case.
"While the issue was resolved in a few hours, we are taking immediate steps to ensure this does not happen again, including:
Making software changes so that our 4th Generation Tablo can still access over-the-air TV when there are internet outages or technical server issues with Tablo."
If I have recorded shows then why does that need your server since everything is stored on my hdd??? I understand Tablo probably has an agreement with ratings agencies and to be able to update the guide. Couldn’t a log file be generated on what shows are being watched and uploaded when the Internet is restored for the ratings agencies? Also the guide should be good for 2 weeks so it should still work during internet outages.
Agreed. I just posted something along the same lines a few days ago:
I hope this proposed change happens soon.
In the meanwhile, I have added a competing product with 4 OTA tuners (two ATSC 3.0) to my network, along with PVR software running on a server. For me, this setup is working more reliably than the 4th gen Tablo. However, unlike Tablo, it is not Roku-compatible, so I’m using Tablo for my Roku TVs.
I am also hopeful that when the change is made, it will make the 4th gen Tablo accessible to PVR software on the LAN, like earlier generations of Tablo! Wouldn’t that be nice!!
This has been a problem forever! Same with old models. If nothing gets rebooted and the internet goes down well you are watching TV you are usually ok temporarily on the older models. Not sure about the 4th gen though. I’m really hoping they fix this on all models and not just the 4th gen.
