NEW - Introducing the new 4th generation Tablo device & app experience!

The interface looks slick, but I don’t need slick, I need easy, i.e., an operating system that just lets me get to my shows. They should have a video to show how the new one works. Looks a lot like AndroidTV or maybe even FireTV and I don’t care for either, they are a pain to navigate, imho. As far as the ‘free’ channels, they are ad supported. I’m betting you won’t be able to skip commercials on those. Most, if not all, ‘free’ tv streams require you to watch ads. As someone else mentioned, it would be better if they would let you watch your recorded content w/o a internet connection. I honestly never understood that one. I wish they would have concentrated on ATSC 3.0. Even if it’s years off, it’s coming like it or not. Maybe they can’t figure that one out? For new OTA adopters it might be ok, but I’m a current lifetime subscriber so it’s a hard pass.

If you read the FAQ’s at the end of the blog post, it is mentioned that a 4-tuner is in development.

We’re fast approaching 2024, developing a new (network) device that does have a model which is both ATSC 1.0/ATSC 3.0 is rather short sighted.

For those who want to see the internal pictures you might have to wait 180-days from the FCC application date of 6/1/2023. Model 2AOR7-TABL0020.

Data collection. Its a triple multi billion dollar advertising business.

Demographic data about what people actually do and dont do during the day. They have magical formulas to figure out how to manipulate decisions.

So, I’m probably missing it, but will users with lifetime data subscriptions be forced to move to the new system? Or can we keep what we actually purchased and like for the foreseeable future?

I’m not seeing anything that’s an improvement for how we use ours?

And, any change means retraining the family. At this point, I’d rather set myself on fire than retrain the family on another part of the cordkilling setup at home…

No change for now. When the different firmware releases, you just won’t update to it.

As for what the future holds… ???

The problem is that in a few years, they will stop updating the tv guide, leaving us canadians with a useless thing. kinda useless, not to have a have the tv guide in a dvr, don’t you think?

Will we simply be able to copy the MPEG files off the hard drive if we’re so inclined or are they encrypted?

I can see the appeal but it would be a giant step backwards for us:
We regularly use the quad recording.
No commercial skip.
No remote log in.

These are all things that made the “legacy” Tablo such a great fit. I hope they will eventually bring some or all of these features to the new generation of Tablos.

Been away from Tablo for a few years, but this might just bring me back. Assuming I use an external hard drive, which means recodings are saved in mpeg2, can I offload those files to my computer?

I’m sure it can be used in Canada. Either we would need a VPN on the streaming device or possibly on the router to put the VPN on the Tablo.

Does the initial setup require IOS? Or is there an android setup available now?

Even with a VPN there is no guarantee Tablo will make Canadian guide data available on their app or allow entering a postal code. Gracenote does charge extra for the lineups too.

This really sucks because their offices are here in Ottawa, and I’d like to buy one.

Ordered one from Best Buy to check it out. If it won’t allow offloading recordings, going to stick with HDHomeRun.

Wait and see if Tablo Ripper will still work.

Scripps fuels free over-the-air TV viewing with device to enhance consumer experience (prnewswire.com) Is there a list somewhere? putting my zip in at Tablo only streaming ones I saw never heard of no Tubi, Pluto etc.

I couldn’t get their “my channels” to work at all for me, just says “no” and spins.

Guessing this means the long requested feature of being able to use Tablo connect on a Roku is now dead.

Will I “have to” eventually accept this “new and better” update? I have the 4-tuner model I bought several years ago along with the lifetime subscription. Will I be forced to give that up!?

Probably why they toss out the label “legacy” .

As for lifetime subscription… it’s likely the life of the service not an individual.
