This is precisely why I created the other thread to keep it in one spot before I was criticized for posting a problem that doesn’t seem to exist anymore.
Wireless. I’m going to try hard wiring it this weekend to test it. Wireless should be faster though. 10/100 Ethernet ports on the Tablo vs 802.11N on my Asuss RT-AC87U router. The router is about 20 feet from the Tablo, but I get solid wireless connectivity from further away from every other wireless device.
My Gen 3 Apple TV was getting worse data transmission (10/100) when I had it plugged in vs wireless. I live in a 1100 sq foot single story home. Wireless signal has never been a problem, especially with this router.
Why apologize “on behalf” of anyone? You don’t need to apologize on my behalf, thank you nor do you represent this forum. This guy came in here and made a stupid remark when someone else was being helped. He should apologize for sticking his nose RUDELY in what was not his business!!! Good people who supported the Tablo have been driven away from the forum because of loud jackasses. So no, no apologies required.
The only person in this forum that is being a jerk and is making stupid remarks is you. You don’t represent this forum either. If there is anyone here driving away good people, its you with your “greater than thou” posts and comments. A public forum is a place where its absolutely everyones business. If you don’t like it, I recommend you get off the internet.
Just because you spend every waking second cruising forums for a digital television appliance that you are fond of does not make you an expert any more than anyone else here. It merely makes you a fanboy.
It makes you look pretty sad, actually.
Thank you to everyone else here that has tried to assist me with my LPW issue.
Good luck on the Nexus Player. I’ve been trying to buy one for $49.99 from Walmart for weeks. It is out of stock and you can’t even order it on Walmart.com. All you can do is enter your e-mail address to get an in stock notification. When my Roku 3 was in the living room I would get 3 - 5 LPW messages when watching a 1 hour recording, such as Gotham. Once I moved it to my bedroom, which is closer to my router (Asus RT-AC68W) a few weeks ago I have yet to see a single LPW. I put my Amazon Fire TV box in the living room in the exact same spot my Roku 3 used to occupy and have not seen a single LPW. I am convinced the wifi hardware in the AFTV box is either better than in the Roku 3.
I am considering running cat6 Ethernet to all my rooms, but at least between my Tablo 4 tuner and my router. As I have mentioned in another thread, the Dish Network Joeys in my bedrooms before I cut the cord were wired but instead of Ethernet they use MoCA (coax cables).
Only place I’ve seen taking stock orders at the moment is Best Buy. They appear to be capitalizing on the out of stock issues as they’ve jacked their price up considerably. Hardball.
It may not be about speed. Both methods should have enough bandwidth for the Tablo/Roku. The difference is in the Roku’s WiFi and Ethernet interfaces. They handle the stream slightly differently. Sometimes one may work when the other does not. In a previous firmware I actually had better results with the Roku on WiFi than with wired Gb. With the last Roku update mine is no longer LPWing with both wired, but that may or may not be true for you. We have close to the same setup. The only difference is I have both plugged into a switch rather than the router, but the wired ports on the router should act the same as a switch.
I basically revamped my entire home to try and get this working. Moved my router closer to the devices, hardwired all, etc.
The performance didnt change at all with wired… but for some reason, after unplugging it and going back on wifi, its working “better”.
I am still getting a lot of LPWs but they seem to be stopping after a minute or two.
I also heard back from Tablo support finally and they recommend disabling the setting to start TV faster.
Hopefully that will resolve the issues.
Moved WiFi router to the location of Tablo and now have bedroom Roku2/ATV-3/and Tablo all connected via Ethernet and in this location all LPW issues are gone. Now Roku3/ATV-4 now wireless in downstairs family room and getting LPW when using Roku - no issues with ATV-4. Hate speculation as I am not as technical as some, but it seems the LPW is driven by a weak Roku WiFi capability. Bottom line, lashed all components up with Cat 5e should solve most issues.
