Known Issue (Resolved) - Unexpected Error on 4th Generation Apps on Samsung & LG

Hi folks -

We are aware of an issue with 4th generation Tablo apps on Samsung and LG smart TVs causing an unexpected error when attempting to access the live TV grid.

We are investigating the source of the issue and hope to share a workaround or resolution soon.

Stay tuned.

UPDATE - April 20, 2025 - 1:12 pm ET - We have tracked the source of the issue down to some misformatted TV guide data which the Samsung and LG apps were not handling correctly. The data has been cleared so affected users should be able to resume accessing their live TV screens.

I opened 4th Gen Tablo on my LG smart tv this morning to get this: Error: Invalid Type.

I rebooted my modem and the Tablo and trashed the app on the tv but the problem remains. I can watch shows and movies still on the Tablo but click over to Live and I continually get the error message. The tablo app on my Iphone connected to the same tablo works fine, incidentally. Any suggestions?

Someone else reported this same thing earlier today. It sounds like it may have something to do with your Guide. Can you refresh it and/or clear your LG Tablo app cache?

I updated the guide but the problem remains. I also checked my other television, a Samsung, and the problem exists on both tvs. I suspect that some kind of overnight Tablo update has created a conflct and won’t let the live tv screen make up.

I am getting the same. Error: Invalid Type when trying to get the live guide. Cleared cache, etc. Nothing works but trying to get to channel from Home.

I’m having the same issue. LG smart TV. Restarted everything on the network and reinstalled the app. Still doesn’t load live. Also when I launch a channel from home I can’t change the channel.

I keep on getting this error message on my Samsung Tizen TV. Everything works on the Roku and Android TV boxes.

+1 here on my Samsung QAQ85D TV @TabloTV.

Same issue here on a samsung. Works fine on ios apps.

OK. An update. Everything worked great until Tablo added those new FAST channels, so I went through the list of channels and disabled all of the FAST streaming channels. Now the guide with just OTA is working.

I was just about to post an update that I reinstalled the app, reran the guide, and soft restarted the Tablo but no luck. Sounds like you got it, @xela18954. Thanks. Mine’s working again after removing all the FAST channels. Don’t use them anyway.

@TabloTV

Yes, uninstalling and reinstalling didn’t work for me either.

Well, at least there is a workaround.

Seems like every time Tablo adds something new, there are major issues. And then we all whine and moan. They ask us lots of questions to troubleshoot and from OUR INPUT they fix THEIR problem. At least we’re not paying for the service. Sarcasm intended!!!

I just received my 4th Gen. Tablo (4 tuner) and have been pulling my hair out trying to figure out what I am doing wrong!
I feel better now knowing that I’m not the only one with this issue concerning the live guide on my LG Smart TV!
I hope they get this fixed…I am debating on whether or not to return mine.

Just did this based on your suggestion. Both Samsung TV and Amazon Fire Cube Tablo apps seem to function again in the live guide.

12+ Hours in Indy area. Live access in error server.

Remove the FAST channels and it should work until they get it fixed.

I took your experience as a que;
Unchecked all of the FAST channels and the live guide began working.
THEN went back in and re-added the FAST channels I actually wanted…about 24 of them…live guide still working.

Then, as an experiment, went back and re-added another dozen or so…Live guide stopped working again.

So with about 2 dozen FAST channels my live guide works fine.
I will leave well enough alone for now!
Thanks for sharing your approach!

TKS. Solved.
Tablo good product over all.
Know your limitations.

Confirmed, removing all the FAST(free ad supported) channels fixed the live TV errors.
To remove them go to settings, then to channel lineup, then uncheck all the free Tablo channels and keep your OTA (antenna)channels.
One previous post said he added 20 of the FAST channels that he liked and it still worked. I haven’t tried that yet. Good luck
