I guess I must sadly say farewell to my Tablo [SOLVED]

I saw where he mentions my pre-amp. It does make me wonder if maybe I am indeed pulling the signal too strong. If I receive the other two attenuators today I should be able to test using various configurations using the three attenuators.

I will start small and gradually work up. So far 3db seems to have helped somewhat, but there are still periods where I get bad pixelation maybe the signal is stronger at those times? I will hopefully soon see.

He also mentioned the pre-amp you have and doesn’t sound like he cares for it. Although I have learned over the many years there is no real thing as
one size fits all", and as long as it works for you who cares what someone else says.

This is how:

  1. Click the LINK button when making a reply to open the Insert Hyperlink window.
  2. Copy and paste the link into the top field
  3. Optionally, add the link title to the bottom field.
  4. Click OK

I did it simply by right-mouse-button click and paste into text area of my reply.

Thank you, good to know. Jim

Today I received the 10db attenuator and installed it. I noticed a marked improvement. Didn’t see much of any stuttering or pixelation until Wheel of Fortune, and then only a couple very minor ones. I went ahead and added the 3db attenuator as well and now haven’t noticed any.

It appears that was my problem, that the pre-amp was just too strong and was overtuning the channels. I will keep watch for the next several days, but the difference between today and days prior is just amazing!

happy that worked. did you get thru amazon? what brand are they. Did you notice that when there are storms there are pixelation till they pass?

We only had some rain showers go through today, and I wasn’t able to check it out as I had to work. I’m not sure how my reception will be with a full blown thunderstorm.

They are both FAM brand, and I think the one missing in the mail somewhere is also a FAM.

At Amazon…

So I am currently reducing the signal by 13db from the 30db boost the ChannelMaster CM-7777 is feeding from my antenna; means I am ultimately boosting the signal 30db - 13db = 17db

That brings you to what I have. I get pixelation when there are storms between here and orlando towers.Dont think there is anything that can help with that. Thanks for the info, where do they get installed? let us know how that works out for you. Jim

I connected them together and installed them between my antenna cable and my Tablo.

Just saw on wesh( nbc ) web site, we need to rescan signal for them June 10.Also will loose signal for a bit. Hows the tv signals doin?

It was excellent today, no pixelation, no brief freezes, no sound stutters.

I also called and reported this back to John at International Satellite and Antenna. He was very appreciative of the information and was surprised the CM-7777 was over-tuning so much, but said it makes sense given it boosts signal 30db. He also said they normally install the Winegard LNA-200 but were out of them when they did my install.

I see where over-tuning can possibly cause the Tablo to buffer. Not sure that could be your issue, but if it continues maybe consider the 3DB attenuator I mentioned prior, or probably no more than the 6db? They aren’t expensive, only about $6.00 through Amazon.

I found this morning a good tablo web page on the subject of signal strength and it mentions that too strong can cause buffering on the Tablo.

Started getting a bit more pixelation going on. It started yesterday evening with the line of storms between here and Orlando. Not so bad to make things unwatchable, but definitely more than I had after installing the attenuators. Now this morning I saw pixelation again on ABC more than I want. Once again, not making it unwatchable like a few days ago, but noticeable and a bit annoying.

I am still missing one of the three attenuators I ordered, looks like the postal service has lost it somewhere between the actual post office in Lady Lake and the actual carrier delivery to my mailbox. The missing item is the 6db attenuator. I think if I can get it I can try a few different configurations to see if I can work out a best-case scenario. Maybe I have that now, but would like to see if a different combination can further reduce the problems I am seeing.

Was just going to order some attenuators, this morning getting some pixelation as well. The stations are cozy, decades, me tv. subs of cbs , nbc.Not much but same as you a bother. Im not sure if just a filter may work.My signal is not to good on 2.1 wesh. comes in but a attenuator may be harmful to that channel, per tablo support. If there are storms it will pixelate any channel.

I wonder if the 3db attenuator would be low enough to not drop your signal strength too much for WESH? I think we have similar problems, but the difference in the pre-amplifier strengths make our resolutions different.

The lowest I can find on Amazon is the 3 db attenuator. They are about $5-$6 so not expensive if you decide to try one out. I don’t think I would look into anything higher as even 6 db might drop you too low and make your signal too weak.

I will try it out. I don’t think anyone sells locally. Lowes has a bunch of tv ota items. Not sure of that item. This problem just got to be more than the scrubber bar, now pixalation recently.Maybe the weather is the reason.

Yeah, I’m not sure if you can find them locally. You used to be able to get them at Radio Shack, but we know what happened to them. I don’t know, maybe International Satellite and Antennas might sell them?

thats ok, im getting one from Amazon.I thought maybe best buy , but no they do not have it.

Just installing a 2-way splitter will drop you about 3 to 3.5 db.

really? without connecting anything to it? Other than the one on now.
