The buffering is happening between your Tablo app on your AppleTV and your Tablo. It really isn’t anything to do with your Internet speed through your ISP, but your local network. Your DirecTV and Pluto both are accessed externally and are subject to your Internet speed externally.
This page has a few suggestions that may, or may not be a part of the buffering you are seeing. https://support.tablotv.com/hc/en-us/articles/207411873-Solving-Buffering-Problems
Additionally, do you have your AppleTV updating automatically? What is your current version on your AppleTV?
Another distinct possibility is what hard drive you are using. Keep in mind all data coming from your Tablo, whether live or recorded, is still recorded to your hard drive first and then is read back from the same hard drive and sent to your AppleTV app; once again this is not happening with DirectTV or Pluto as they are direct streamed to you through the Internet. If your hard drive is low, has read/write issues it will affect the transfer of the stream to your AppleTV.
Do you have any other streaming devices, like a Roku or FireTV, that you can check from?
Another way would be to check from a laptop/desktop or using smart phone; see if the problem persists or goes away. If the problem goes away with other client sources you know it is something to do with AppleTV or the AppleTV app or version.
apple 4k 12.3 up to date. Im using the tablo quad with a seagate internal hd they recommended to buy with it. I had a tablo lite before that one and had same issue. thought the new faster quad would resolve it. No difference. its actually nut so much buffering, but the thumbnail comes up on screen momentarly at random. its troublesome.
this does not happen on other devices, just tv sets.I can try on ruck, but ruko is slow compared to apple, as you know, thats why i switched from ruko.
HI, wanted to check on how your signals have been. I figured out a few reasons for the scrubber showing up un wanted. 1) Found a rg6 connection that installer installed to tablo had a connector that had a short copper connection in side , when I wiggled it , it would cause the bar to appear. Replaced with rg6 quad from lowes. 2) talked to dec at antennas direct, the actual maker of antenna, He said any small fluction, (even unnoticeable in picture) would cause the scrubber bar to appear. So wanted to see if your signal is better. Jim
I’m happy to hear you have your problem resolved. I’m still trying to resolve mine. My pixellation is always occurring around the same times of the day; from 7:30am-9:00am and then again from about 7:00pm-9:00pm.
I am waiting for a delivery of a couple of attenuators. Tablo support thinks part of my problem is I am getting too strong a signal as a result of the pre-amplifier attached to my antenna. I guess several of my channels are showing 100 out of 100, but could actually be more than 100. FOX is definitely overtuned. It was suggested I consider trying an attenuator to reduce the signal strength and see if it helps. I ordered a 3db, 6db, and 10db. Received the 3db on Thursday and I think I see some slight improvement. The 6db and 10 db were both supposed to be here Friday, but haven’t receive them yet (USPS), hopefully on Monday.
When I install them I will look closely at the cable, but since Tablo says my signals are strong or maybe even too strong I think that is probably not my issue that a cable might be bad.

Have you tried just bypassing the preamp? If you’re going to attenuate signal, you attenuate all channels anyways. Why amp it and then attenuate it?
Also… without me going back and reading this all again… are you using a distribution amp to split signal in the house? If yes, instead of bypassing the amp, remove the distribution amp and replace with a regular coax splitter. That will attenuate based on how many ways it’s being split.
When they installed my antenna they also installed on the antenna pole a ChannelMaster CM-7777. Too high up for me to reach even with my 6-foot step ladder. I don’t think I can just unplug the power supply as I’ve heard many (most?) pre-amplifiers will end up blocking the signal if power is cut to them.
I can see the use of a pre-amplifier if the signal is weak, but perhaps the approximate 30db this unit is supposed to boost the signal is sending me over the edge? That is why I ordered the 3db, 6db, and 10db attenuators. I figure if I am overtuning I can maybe drop them slightly and still get the benefits of amplification that I wouldn’t get if no amplifier. And then there is that issue with can I just cut power. I did try just unplugging the CM-7777 power supply but then I lost all channels; due to CM-7777 not passing through un-amplified signal, or too weak a signal?
No, Still happened but less frequent. I was told it is from signal fluctuation. I have a suggestion for you to try. Look up antennas direct phone number , that’s where our antenna is from. when I called I pressed for tech support, not sales. they were very knowledgable about the antenna.I think they may be able to help you, or at least direct you to a answer. Jim
Also, Im not understanding how the stations towers in orlando are to much signal for you. The towers are 60 miles out of our location.
I guess this pre-amp is pretty hefty, boosting the signal some 30db. The boost can also include cell LTE, but not sure that is my problem. I do have an LTE filter though so I can try it.
It says, “…is ideal for installations in which all broadcast towers are located at a distance of more than 80 miles.”
So being within 60 miles just might make it too strong for the better received channels, and like I said Tablo Engineering checked my Tablo channels and said they were mostly all at 100 which means they could be higher and resulting in overtuning.
I have a wineguard pre amp booster
Do you know what model of Wineguard amp you have?
Maybe that is the difference. If your amp is not as strong as the one they installed on my antenna, then perhaps I could be overtuning?
Looking at WInegard’s web page I see two amps on their main home page; the LNA-100 boosts 20db and the LNA-200 boosts 18db. My ChannelMaster is boosting 30db.
I have model Lna 200 db gain 18. it is a winegard boost xt.You may be correct, the channel master may be too much.
I don’t know how to so a share from you tube to this site? So I did find a guy who explains the pre amps on youtube. Antenna man then look for his video that says the best tv antenna amps from a installer, watch all of video, it comes to the one you have. Could you tell me how to do the share on this site? Jim
Are you accessing this from your phone or a computer? If by phone, is it and Android or iPhone?
Normally, once you open something in your browser you can click, touch the address bar at the top and select “Copy”, then you can “Paste” it into your post here on the forum.
Is this the video you mean?
Yes, he mentions your amp in it. how did you do the share?
Ok just got your response. I have a MacBook air.
You should be able to select the address up in the address box at the top of your browser. When you click on the address, it should become highlighted in blue to which you can then go to the “Edit” menu at the top and select “Copy”. Then come back to the forum edit and click “Edit” and then “Paste”.
