Hide Timeline Bar on Roku

I would like to be able to hide the timeline bar when video is paused.

I quite often pause the 10-day weather forecast to review it in detail, but the timeline obscures part of information on the screen. On all other apps, like Netflix, Prime, YouTube, Fandango, et cetera I am able to hit the back button once to remove any onscreen overlay and again to move back to the previous screen. On the Tablo, it goes back to the previous screen when hitting the back button, even if there is an overlay.

I brought the issue up last May, but nothing has come of it so far that I am aware of. Has another method been added to clear the timeline so that just the paused screen is shown that I am not aware of?

I’ll second that. It is a pretty standard feature on all the apps I can think of.

It’s a standard feature on my Tablo. I just hit the back button and it disappears.

What platform are you using? It could be different on different streaming devices.

It does not do this on any of my Roku devices, for either live or recordings. I’ve tried several things, including the BACK button, and also the UP navigation button (which works with some streaming services).

That is how it works for me too with my Fire TV 4K Max.

This issue may very well be limited to Roku. On my iPhone the timeline disappears automatically a few seconds after pausing. This is the only other device I have to test with. On the 2 devices I have, only the Roku is affected.

Perhaps others can reply advising on different devices. So far it appears that:

Roku: Affected
iPhone: Unaffected
Fire TV: Unaffected
Onn TV: Unaffected

Google TV Streamer (4k): Unaffected, works as expected (runs Android TV/Google TV just like the Onn devices).

I have ROKU and the timeline and options are really a PITA when paused.
If not paused, you can wait for it to go away in a few seconds, or you press the back button and it goes away immediately.
Should be like that. No reason to leave it on the screen when paused.

I would like to ask if someone from Tablo could please respond this this thread to at least acknowledge you are aware of the issue with the timeline bar on Roku on the 4th generation devices.

Hi @jwhitlow ,

We’ve brought it up with the product team. They’re taking a look.
