Thanks for the suggestion! I did try it, but unfortunately it did not work. 
I am hoping that the Tablo developers will update the Roku app so that pressing the back button when the overlay is on-screen will make it vanish and then a second press will actually take you back. This would make it consistent with the other major apps.
