I understand closed captions are not yet supported. This is an absolute MUST HAVE for all who are hearing impaired! Please let’s hear from the community on this issue.
@BSVET375 - Agreed! And it’s not just a must have for those who are hearing impaired but also those who don’t speak English as a first language or people who like to jog while watching TV. This is why closed captioning is on our ‘to-do’ list. Stay tuned!
Ready to buy Tablo, just need CC supported.
Can you give an idea of when closed captions will be available? This is a deal breaker for our family.
I am looking for a new solution since Aereo lost their Supreme Court case. Simple.tv does not do captions. You have an opportunity here, please take advantage of it!
Stay tuned - this is coming very soon!
Any status on this?
@ackbar - iOS and Roku clients now have beta support for closed captioning (CC). We’ll be working on making this feature more awesome and adding it to more platforms over the coming months.
Any status on this. I echo the sentiments above, closed captioning is a deal breaker.
@Rxb0nrw - As per my previous post, our iOS and Roku clients both have beta support for closed captioning. We’ll be making improvements to this feature over the coming months.
The CC does not work using IPad/Apple TV and there is no CC tab on my PC (using Chrome browser). Do I need to do an update today to see if we can get CC in iOS (IPad)? I have owned the Tablo for about two weeks.
On my iPad, closed captioning works on some shows, but not all of them. It just nothing on those.
@devildude Do you have the closed captions turned on? Is there a difference from just using the iPad app versus Airplaying it to the Apple TV? Does it not show up for anything in your Chrome browser? Remember to toggle the ‘CC’ button in the player.
I am thinking about getting a Tablo. I have to have captioning. I will be using a Roku 3 and an iPad 2. Does captioning work well for those? Also, when playing back shows recorded OTA, does captioning work well? That was a limitation on a PVR I was looking at - could see the captions live while watching the show but not on playback. Thanks!
I have a Roku3 and an iPad2. I just tried out closed captioning on shows that I have recorded on ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, and PBS, and they all worked. I also tried live tv on several channels, and it worked for them as well.
For me CBS, NBC and CW only show gibberish. CC ONLY work for ABC and FOX. It possibly depends on signal strength or the location you’re receiving CCs. Fact is, CC is still only in Beta so Tablo does not fully support this yet. I hope they’ll have this fixed soon but there is currently no guarrantee that it’ll work for you.

Yes for me too. It works for some channels but for some it is just gibberish
Thanks for all the tips, everyone.
OK, I have an iPad2 and Airplay it to my TV. No closed caption on Air Play to my Apple TV. I’m very hard of hearing and would like to use my Tablo over my TV rather than being limited to my iPad. When do you think it will become available?
@eddiev1946 - We’re still working on understanding how to make this happen. In all of our testing it doesn’t seem as though Apple TV supports decoding of closed captioning from our video stream.
