Good luck then. That is what tickets are for. Engineers don’t post here, at least very rarely.
… sure.
But if someone asked me if my channel was missing or if the guide for my channel was missing, it wouldn’t take me more than one reply to answer.
LOLOL.
And you still can’t answer that question.
Starting to think you’re the troll here, sir.
Sorry, guess you’ll have to answer a basic question to prove us wrong.
Oh, and it’s easier than clicking on all the fire hydrants.
It shows the indicated channel is 13.1, the frequency is 23.1. This is done so people that are use to the old designation of VHF analog channels can relate, when the actual broadcast Frequency is a digital UHF 23. The *.1. .2, .3 etc. are picketed sub channels carried on the UHF channel 23 frequency. There can be an unlimited picketed channels in one digital frequency. This is how digital broadcast works. So, if the EPG is not picking up the Frequency 23. to include in the EPG, then all the 23. channels will be missing.
I will not charge you for this lesson in digital communications, but trust me, you don’t want to challenge me with my 40 years in this field as a systems analyst.
The guide info is missing on a couple of channels on my 4th gen. and this is the response I got from Tablo. It’s not very hopeful.
Our guide data provider doesn’t have access to these channels in your area, and we unfortunately do not have an ETA on when or if they will be added. We are actively working with our guide data provider to attempt to resolve this issue, but do not have more insight to offer at this time.
Sort of like a Ron White comedy skit.
I get CBS on 23.1 and I don’t even live in Tucson. But I need a special decoder ring to see the EPG.
KOLD-TV TUCSON, AZ
13-1 32.3 KOLD DT CBS “KOLD News 13”
13-2 32.4 Me TV Me-TV
13-3 32.5 Circle Outlaw
13-4 32.6 KOLDDT4 Defy TV
13-5 32.7 AZSPORT Arizona’s Family Sports
13-6 32.8 CHARGE! Charge!
Zippy, of course you can get UHF 23, as this channel is shared all over the country and distance between the transmitters are governed by the FCC. Channel 23 in NY is NOT the same channel in Tucson Az. I have better things in life to hold hands with people that don’t understand this.
FYI. UHF Channel 23 frequency is 487.25 mhz
I never said 23.1 was a digital (RF) number versus a virtual channel number.
You can click on channel logo but you can not do recordings on 4th gen but can on Legacy. Like you I pay for the guide and want it to be correct. I have suggested to Tablo to use something besides Gracenote. I was hoping 4th gen did, but no. It has taken 3 months to get data connected.
There is no channel logo because there is no channel downloaded, thus I cannot add it to my list. If it is Not in the EPG that Tablo creates, then it doesn’t exist on my Tablo Legacy to watch nor record. But, it is there with my Tablo Gen4.
I contract to Tablo for an EPG. If they subcontract to someone else, then Tablo is responsible. I did not create a contract with Gracenote, they wouldn’t know or care who I am and would refer me to Tablo. I can’t fix a Tablo issue. I don’t download the EPG, my Tablo device downloads it, this is in the Tablo software/firmware.
I was simply pointing out that Tablo isn’t the root source of the EPG information since they don’t create it, they are at the mercy of Gracenote.
I do agree that any EPG issues need to be reported to Tablo so they can contact Gracenote to try to get them resolved.
Thanks, I appreciate a good honest comment. My Legacy Tablo controls what is displayed based off what it downloads. If a channel is not downloaded, then it is not displayed nor it’s ICON, thus, it does not exist.
F.Y.I. Last month got my 4 turner Gen4, love it, and it gets all the EPG channels fine. I want the Legacy unit for use with my Tablo Ripper to rip and port over to my Plex server HDD. Until someone comes up with a Tablo Gen4 ripper, I need to keep using the Legacy unit. Now I can’t record or rip anything off the 6 KVOA stations.
I’m now having this issue in Savannah, GA can’t watch or record CBS or PBS on Tablo viewing live or recording. I get a too weak signal but it comes in great through my TV tuners, just not through Tablo. Zip 31328
I just bought a supposed 4th gen, 2 tuner at BestBuy. I say ‘supposed’ as I can’t find markings on the box and I haven’t done the work to verify…but that is what BestBuy advertises on their website as to what they’re selling. I’m in the Tucson area (Oro Valley 85755).
Anyway, the same situation of no CBS/PBS. In the intervening months since this topic, has any course of action been uncovered?
Thanks
You aren’t getting the signal for CBS and PBS, or you are not getting programming data in the guide?
At the time of my initial post, the programming data was not showing up in the guide. Whether the signals were available to be had…I don’t know.
Since the initial post, I have rerun the scan and the PBS information shows up. However, when I select the PBS channel, I am informed that the signal is too weak. This leads me to believe it is a similar problem with the CBS feed.
At this juncture, I’m going to play around with antenna location and/or get an antenna that has more range or can boost the signal.
Thanks
I rough check of stations at your ZIP code shows both CBS (KOLD 13) and PBS (KUAT 6) are on UHF RF frequencies, so most antennas are tuned for that. Your ABC station (KGUN 9) actually transmits on RF9, so needs an antenna compatible with VHF-Hi.
Another rough check from rabbitears.info using downtown Tuscon as the center shows transmitters in two general directions, opposite of each other.
Rabbitears tells me KOLD has two transmitters in the Tucson area. One on Mount Bigelow, UHF 31, virtual 13.1. And one on Tower Peak, high-VHF 13, virtual 13.1.
One big problem with Tablo is that it will not let you choose which rf channel to use. If it sees two rf channels with the same virtual channel number it will pick one of them and it won’t tell you which one it picked.
There are also two PBS channels in the Tucson area. KUAS on Tumamoc Hill, UHF 28, virtual 27.1. And KUAT on Mount Bigelow, UHF 30, virtual 6.1.
Clicking on the mileage number in the Rabbitears channel list shows a drawing of the terrain from the transmitter. When I use zip 85755 it shows the transmitters on Mount Bigelow are behind a mountain. If I lived in that zip I might try an antenna with high-VHF ability pointed south. But you could try fiddling with the signal search map to get the push pin on your house to see if you get line-of-sight to Mount Bigelow.
Good luck.
Andy/Ron - thank you both for your replies. I will see what I can get done with the guidance you have provided.
I just have a 35 mi range indoor antenna at this point. Initially, I had the antenna on an east facing window and could only get the NBC and FOX affiliates. This morning, I had the antenna pointed out a west window…with the antenna oriented WSW… and could get CBS and PBS, but not the NBC/FOX. At no time could I get the ABC affiliate. In my mind, this more or less plays out what Andy was perhaps anticipating.
