I researched the best indoor tv antenna as i’ve been trying to cut down on cable costs and still watch local channels at home. i have been experiencing poor signal quality, missing channels, and inconsistent reception depending on where i place the antenna. i went through reviews from trusted sources like techradar, tom’s guide, and reddit and after comparing many options these two kept coming up as the top choices:
however, i am having trouble deciding which one would be better for me and i would love to get your expert advice and hoping maybe some cord-cutters or home entertainment enthusiasts on this forum can also share their advice. i usually watch local news, sports, and basic channels and need something with stable reception and easy setup. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance
As far as trusted source I think Antenna Man is the most informative. youtube channel as well as website. He has a amazon store. You can pay him to do an analysis and recommendation for your location. If you watch some of his youtubes you may get a better idea of what makes a useful antenna, and whether or not you need an amplifier. And you would want an antenna that can pick up the bands you want to receive. IMO the two antennas you refer to are not really the best.
From his youtube home page see playlists, indoor antennas.
Just personally i have had good experience with Televes innova boss mix, which has a switchable as well as automatic amp.
If you have further questions there are many helpful posters here who will have ideas for you.
I second the comments @tabjoe made and recommend reviewing Antenna Man’s YouTube and Amazon pages. Depending on your experience, you might also benefit from using is antenna recommendation service.
Can’t speak to “paperclip” antenna reception locations but for difficult reception areas, I’ve tried 'em all! I ended up with a ChannelMaster Extrema 80 (8 bay bowtie with reflector, unamplified) at one location and a Televes Dinova Boss (amplified) and my other location. Took me several years to find the best at both locations.
I didn’t know about the Antenna Man site while I was testing these antennas so my choice was made based on empirical testing of about a dozen of candidates (at each location).
Your best bet always when selecting an antenna is to start here. Run a report for your specific location then share it on here. None of us knows anything about your location, and to suggest an antenna lacking that info is pure folly.
Hey everyone, I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions here.
Just to clarify, this isn’t meant to be spam or clickbait. I’m trying to figure out which antenna would work best for my situation. I shared those two options because they kept coming up during my research across different sources, and I wanted real opinions from people who have hands-on experience.
I’m still learning about things like signal strength, location factors, and whether an amplifier is actually needed, so the suggestions about checking reports and looking into better antennas are really helpful. I’ll definitely check out Antenna Man and tools like Rabbitears to understand my setup better.
If anyone has experience with reliable indoor antennas (especially for stable local channels), I’d still love to hear your recommendations. My goal is just to find something that works well and is easy to set up not to promote anything.
I had problems with reception and tried too many things to fix. I should have bought a quality antenna and mounted it outside. My Televes Dat Boss is mounted on my chimney and I am no longer chasing reception problems.
Let me be the first to apologize for suspecting this …
An open forum gets a lot of spam as I indicated.
Also most of those antenna “recommendations” are fake. There is no such thing as a “long range” indoor antenna. Or that special “Digital” or “HDTV” tag. Or 100+ mile range.
I’ve seen some “Nextgen” or “ATSC 3.0” ready/compatible antennas.
Due to the curvature of the earth… The antenna would have to be outside on a mast. The farther away from the transmitter requires greater the height for the antenna.
That being said, you can put an expensive outdoor antenna in your attic but that’s all the height you’re going to have. If it can’t see the signal, using an amplifier will not help.
Depending on your location everyone will recommend a really good antenna to start. Use the tools suggested - Rabbitears.info is frequently named first. To discover your regional TV ecosystem. Then Antenna Man has hundreds of trusted reviews.
TVFool which is often suggested by Tablo AI hasn’t been updated since 2009. Nocable dot org is a deadlink and is another AI suggestion.*
Mudflap/inexpensive antennas are good up to about 20 miles for full power stations directly in line-of-site. Don’t expect to get much better. VHF stations can be problematic.
Hope this helps and thank you for being a good sport about my joking around.
Just to answer your original question, don’t waste your money on either of the linked antennae in your original post unless you literally live underneath the tower!
Post your rabbitears report on here if want decent suggestions for an antenna. An indoor antenna MIGHT be ok in your location but none of us know that without the info from rabbitears. Again, to flatly ask for antenna suggestions shouldn’t be your first step. A lot of us on here will gladly help you if you give us a good starting point.
